Roccos Brother December 7, 2017 Share December 7, 2017 Ugh, just finished the episode where Heidi and Joe left. This season started off okay but quickly became aggravating. They somehow managed to attract all of the most hostile, arrogant and unfriendly teams in this cast. The cops were insufferable from the moment they appeared on my screen, it didn’t matter if they were doing poorly or doing well. I don’t necessarily blame them for U-turning Heidi and Joe, but what annoys me is their reasoning. The most boorish, entitled, hyper-machismo (in the worst way) team in TAR history accused someone else of being “cocky”??? Hypocrite, much? That Morse code challenge was ridiculously flawed. The fact that one of the strongest teams lost to two incredibly incompetent teams (one of which should have been eliminated in the previous leg) is appalling and proof that the task was too difficult. It was a very frustrating episode to watch. Link to comment
Roccos Brother December 7, 2017 Share December 7, 2017 I'm surprised by some older posts I've since read regarding the aforementioned episode. I feel like I might be watching a different show. Apparently a lot of people saw Joe as the villain. I didn't think he was so bad, especially since he was in the company of MANY unlikeable racers in this cast IMO. And I still think that Morse code challenge was rigged. Not a single team even attempted it and according to interviews I've read, the message played on loop with no way to know when it began or ended. Sheesh. Oh well. Link to comment
Roccos Brother December 8, 2017 Share December 8, 2017 Just finished the Singapore leg, tired of people STILL referring to Brandy and Carol as “the lesbians” this far in. The models are dumb as rocks and should have been eliminated a long time ago. Teaming up with the cops against Brandy/Carol makes no strategic sense for them in the long haul. They’re also surprisingly mediocre-looking for “models”. Lots of unbalanced detours so far in terms of difficulty – stacking glasses vs searching grapes, balancing flags vs lifting incense candles, etc. I wish Allie and dad didn’t give up on the balancing challenge so quickly, it was definitely the easier of the two. I sound like a negative Nancy for ragging on this season, but I’m partially bitter that my favorite team – grandma/granddaughter went out so early. Also, no posts on this thread? Guess people really didn't care about this season. 1 Link to comment
Star Aristille December 8, 2017 Share December 8, 2017 (edited) This was one of the most toxic seasons with one of the most toxic casts in the history of the show, and a lot of that toxicity came from Louie & Michael and Brent & Caite (especially Caite). So yeah, a lot of people don't like it. A lot of the more likable teams left first, which hurt the season even more. Edited December 8, 2017 by Star Aristille 2 Link to comment

Roccos Brother December 9, 2017 Share December 9, 2017 I just finished the finale. Loved that they went to SF, a place I called home for a good chunk of my adult life. It made me feel nostalgic. I’m glad that the brothers won, they were by far the most likeable out of the final 5 teams left. It was ironic though, I honestly thought they wouldn’t make it past the first few legs. The models were hella unlucky in the final leg, but they really shouldn’t have made it that far to begin with, so it balanced out. What a weird season overall, not just the drama, but also the editing at certain parts. Not much else to say. I hate when a feel-good show starts feeling more like high school. Next. 1 Link to comment
TheRabbi December 10, 2017 Share December 10, 2017 (edited) I found 16 ok, but I didn't particularly care for the winners. I liked Steve and Allie, as they seemed very genuine (and Allie was a doll at the finale party - Steve couldn't attend due to baseball commitments). I agree that Morse code detour was pretty much impossible which made the u-turn very unfair. I know the cowboys have a lousy reputation among the Race purists, but I found their maiden voyage to be fun to watch. Their shtick might be grating by their third time on, but they seemed pretty genuine and likeable in 16. I personally found the flag-balancing to be one of the more unique and awesome challenges they've done, but different strokes! 17 is decidedly a better season, so have fun. Meraji April 25, 2018 Share April 25, 2018 (edited) Just finished watching this season for the second time and my husband for the first. I actually really enjoyed this season but so disappointed that the cowboys didn't win. They were by far the most enjoyable team to make it far in the race. Very calm the whole time and a positive attitude. Loved Jet keeping his hat on for bungee jumping! Although the cowboys could also be frustrating in the mistakes they made. Just assuming, instead of asking, that they needed to go to Champagne, France, for instance! Dan and Jordan were ok as the winners, but were a little whiny and kinda were stressful to watch. dgpolo July 27, 2019 Share July 27, 2019 Not a lot a posts here and some quoted posts that aren't here? It was an OK season for me, I didn't dislike the winners. At this point in the game I liked the Cowboys. Couldn't stand either Brent or Caite, always fighting, getting angry when he couldn't do a task, Caite thinking Joan of Arc was a guy. Did love to see the Cowboys going from last with a speed bump to first. Just the racing aspect was great. The Fast Forward the brothers did was scary. I guess this was the first time that there was a 2nd Roadblock in a leg, the wind made it exciting for a while. I also liked the Virtual Reality task, especially them having to figure out about the spinning. Someone, somewhere, in some thread asked how many lesbians had run the race, I don't think Brandy and Carol were counted. Did NOT like the cops. I don't think Allie could have done the balancing, I think they were extremely heavy and you needed real core strength as well as balancing skills. Link to comment
AncientNewbie April 7, 2020 Share April 7, 2020 We just picked this season randomly. I remember commenting, with about three eps to go, that it was interesting on rewatch because I wasn't as invested and didn't care for the hero/villain edits. Then Jordan and the other brother started punching cab dividers and acting like spoiled children and I remembered that this was one that almost made me walk away the first time around. Most unlikable winners in the history of the show and that includes Freddy and KKKendra. 1 1 Link to comment

This is re: Jet calling Jordan a homophopic epithet in front their mother. TBH I didn't see the story, and yes, he should have been more sensitive, but I doubt that it isn't part of the cultural language that he works in. That's not to excuse it but it might go some way towards explaining it. From what I saw on the show, the cowboys were far less likely to talk poop about the people around them than other teams. 1 Link to comment
LadyChatts June 11, 2020 Share June 11, 2020 (edited) Finished re-watching this season, and it wasn't any better on re-watch than when I watched it the first time. Starting with TAR13, I thought the series went through kind of a sluggish period for a few seasons. I agree with some of the comments made: Joe/Heidi got royally screwed with that U-Turn. At the very least, it should have been a double U-Turn to give them a chance. But that detour never should have had the option to U-Turn to begin with. In reality, I wish the first 4 teams eliminated (plus Steve/Allie) were the ones there in the final 5, and the real final 5 were the first to go. I was surprised by the number of mistakes made this season compared to previous ones. Though I started off not liking them, I liked Louie/Michael when they were finally eliminated, although I think part of that was the lack of having anyone to root for in the end except the cowboys. I didn't like or hate Brent/Caite, but I always thought they were the type of people I'd love to go gambling with, because luck was on their side big time. Did Dan/Jordan kind of cause the bad blood between them and Carol/Brandy? I forgot in the first leg that the brothers were the one who were telling them about Caite's Miss Teen USA mishap, and then told Caite that Carol (?) was asking where her tiara was. While I thought them U-Turning Carol/Brandy was stupid, I didn't like those two so I didn't care that they were gone. I was half rooting for Brent/Caite to win just to spite those two. You could tell C/B were very happy when Dan/Jordan and Jet/Cord showed up to the finish line in first and second. But I agree that people calling them 'the lesbians' throughout the race got old when the first person did it. I consider Dan/Jordan among my least favorite winners ever. I can appreciate that TAR doesn't make their eventual winning team look good just because they won, like Survivor does with sugar coating their winners. I guess I could say in general they don't purposely give people a positive edit all the time. As for the positives, I really enjoyed the route this season. I'm always up for new countries, and Seychelles didn't disappoint. Gorgeous place. Edited June 11, 2020 by LadyChatts 2 Link to comment
TOL June 18, 2021 Share June 18, 2021 (edited) I just watched this season on Hulu. I can’t believe I went back this far to find this thread to comment, but that’s how disgusted I am with Carol/Brandy and their behavior. Caite was a simple girl no doubt, but she didn’t deserve the bitchy platter Dan/Jordan served them up on and the continual snide commentary from C/B. The unintended consequence is that as a result, their antics elevated Caite, especially at the finish line when she tried to apologize for the Uturn and they just.couldn’t.stop being awful.
