As we all know by now, Trump has gotten the boot.

And yet NBC renewed the show before that.

Assuming Mark Burnett tries some kind of show reboot, here's a place to talk about that...

He could actually make this abomination watchable again.

While on one level he seems like an obvious candidate, on the other there's the problem that nobody in the US--ESPECIALLY the Celebrities--know who he is or give a shit about him.

 

Amstrad has never produced anything of any success level in the US market.  Ever.  After a few fumbling attempts back in the infancy of computing, they never even tried. Now Sugar doesn't even own Amstrad anymore.  

 

My guess is that behind the scenes Burnett might try and get a former competitor (in the reality show business), Mark Cuban, who's version of The Apprentice fell flat on it's face, but who's going to be known not only by the entire viewing audience, but also the Celebs.  The issue would be if they could a.) pay Cuban enough and b.) If ABC/Shark Tank actually has a long-term binding contract on him.

 

Heck, even another former reality show competitor of the same ilk, and a countryman of Sugar, Richard Branson, would do better than Sugar in the US Market. Again, the endeavor requires audience and celeb familiarity.

 

If a lot of people didn't hate his guts, Ted Turner could do it. I mean he no longer really has a competing business interest with NBC Universal.

Seriously, I'd like to see them go for someone who isn't an old white man. I don't care who, but I'd just like to see someone who isn't an old white man in that position. There are surely people who would qualify besides Oprah (who I don't really want to see in this capacity, and who I don't think would do it anyway).

Oprah would be worse than Donald.  She has an even more annoying tendency to make everything about herself than Donald has, believe it or not.

 

I want someone who will cut all the manufactured-drama crap and bring this show back to its roots.  That's why I would prefer Lord Sugar.   He doesn't put up with fake drama in the Boardroom on the UK version (which is why I think it's far superior and started pretending that our version doesn't exist years ago), and he always cuts right to the chase -- none of this boring drag-everything-out-for-20-minutes-of-backstabbing-and-throwing-people-under-the-bus before the results have even been announced.  He also doesn't make everything about himself.

I would love Mark Cuban to do it.  I think it is very unlikely though.  I watched his show and loved it even though a contestant took him for a ride.  He found out in time.  I would like to see Kevin, Robert or Barbara, from Shark Tank, as well.  They are all respected in the business world, something Trump cannot achieve.

I think Steve Wynn would be good at it. Just not sure his ego is as HUGE as the Donald's.

I'm going to Hell for saying this, but are we going to need subtitles with his accent?

 

I just hope he cuts through all the fake drama bullcrap and brings the show back to its roots when the tasks were more than just who had the biggest Rolodex and who could throw whom under the bus the fastest before the task results were even announced.  If he can't do that, then I'm out and I'll stick with the superior UK version.

An unusual choice, to be sure. Wonder if this means the show's moving back to LA? Because it was the LA season which basically killed the original format, so history may be repeating itself.

 

Unless they have James Cameron as a boardroom adviser. Then it would be awesome.

According to report I saw it will be heading to LA. Has Ah-nuld ever been known as a businessman?

 

He was involved in Planet Hollywood, though I don't know whether he actually played any part in running it, or just put up some of the money to get it going.

On one hand, I'm not sure I see him doing a great job, but on the other, an immigrant just took over Donald Trump's job, and that amuses me and makes me hope he will be great and ratings go up.

 

Not just any immigrant.  A LEGAL one who is now a naturalized US citizen.  I'm not overly fond of the Dumpster as a politician (a subject well outside the scope of this thread), but it's an important distinction to remember before gloating too much.

I'll follow you. I'm most definitely going to need subtitles. Why couldn't they get Mark Cuban? I really liked his show. I also liked Branson's show.

Aside from not wanting to dilute their brand with someone who did a similar show, I'm really thinking it's because Cuban is under contract with ABC/Disney.

Not that there's any lack of weirdo rich guys out there. The key is finding ones who can talk on camera. And since the show is now assuming celebs (or bare excuses for them from other reality shows at least), the "boss" needs to have an existing public profile.
