MLB.com picks best promotional giveaways from each team. The funny one to me is the Cal Ripken, Jr. Iron Man Bobblehead from the Orioles. Years ago, I went to the Baltimore Comic Con and got an artist to draw Cal as Iron Man.

Did you read the one for the Jose Altuve socks giveaway when the Padres are the visiting team? That one is hilariously on point.

It’s just baffling that the Yankees saw his last pitch last season and were like “we need that”.  I fully understand that one pitch doesn’t make a career but still.

And yet, here they are with one of, if not the, best reliever in MLB pitching the 8th instead of the 9th he EARNED last season. 🤦‍♀️

Yesterday's horrid loss is on Boone. He did the right thing by having both the closer and an alternate warming up in the top of the 9th, but once the Yanks had the four-run lead, SIT WILLIAMS DOWN! (Yes, I was screaming at the screen.) Why have both of them warming and then not follow through with the situation you prepared for?

Whoa, what happened to Baltimore today?

That’s my biggest managerial pet peeve. It’s something in the closer blood. If it’s a save situation, they lock it down. But if it’s not, for some reason, the urgency doesn’t click in their brains. So yeah, not a save? Sit that closer down.

Two of my favorite things converge - baseball and theater (or movies, I guess...).  Lin Manuel-Miranda is making a movie about the Molina brothers.  What a great idea!

It will be released...someday.

It's a shame he can't seem to stay healthy. His peak was incredible and I don't think the general fan realizes how good he was because he played for the Angels.

Not making the playoffs is not his fault but He didn't have to sign the extension with the angels.  There would have been teams lining up to sign him .

On the plus side ...he can be at every Eagles home game after September since he doesn't have to worry about October baseball.

Salacious Kitty: I'm sorry, but it was worse than whatever is going on in Colorado or Chicago.

Derek Shelton had no business in that role to begin with, let alone keeping it for this long.  Pittsburgh even gave him an extension!  A guy with a win percentage just over 40% getting that.  Wow.

He was well over 100 games under .500.  The worst start to start a MLB managerial career since Day One.  Back to back 100 loss seasons.  That was before the extension.  The Buccos have been shutout more than anybody this calendar year.  Several times in fact, over the past 2 series.  They were swept in each of the last 2 series.

NO.  The Rockies & the White Sox are not more than an embarrassment to Major League Baseball than the Pittsburgh Pirates.  While the NL Central team isn't going to win the pennant with today's move, at least it's a start that it's time for a chance.  At least the admittance of one.

They did a thing a few days ago on the MLB Network about managers that might be on the hot seat. Shelton was one of them and they were correct on that account. With the players and pitching they have, the Pirates should not be as bad as they are.

The other two managers they thought would be on the hot seat were the ones for Toronto and Baltimore, which I didn’t actually agree with. Toronto because, although they are below .500, they’re still not even far out of 1st place and they’re already showing signs of improvement.

As for Baltimore… that’s not the manager’s fault at all. It’s the owners and/or GM for prospect hugging, cheap 1yr deals on aging pitchers and kind of blowing the rebuild by drafting 8 million position players and no decent pitchers.

The Pirates should be better than they are, but I still think it's more an ownership/FO problem than a manager problem. They have some excellent pitchers - not just Skenes - and they've done *nothing* to build around them. That lineup they rolled out yesterday against Sonny Gray... oof. They just don't have the horses.

Case in point, this stat from an ESPN article about Skenes and his losses to the Cardinals: "In his five starts against the Cardinals spanning 32⅔ innings, Skenes has received only three runs of support while he has been in the game."

Don't get me wrong, I don't think Shelton is a great manager. But in this case, I think he's being scapegoated (as all managers eventually are).

I'm here to confess. I'm a very bad Yankee fan right now, but I pumped my fist when Sevy struck out Aaron Judge. Sevy was always my favorite of all the young Yankees that came up through the system in the late twenty-teens. Throw in Miggy Andújar in RF and Gio Urshela playing 3rd and it's making it hard for me to root against the Athletics this afternoon.

I hope Sevy pitches well and the Yankees can take a win from the As bullpen.

Edited to add:  Well, the second inning certainly didn't go the way I'd hoped for Sevy. 😥

I was up late watching the Yankees/Mariners game. It was so hard to watch the Cabrera injury happen. YES wouldn't even show the replay because it was nightmarish. We won't really have additional info until tonight's pre-game; late because they're on the west coast. I'm thinking a compound fracture combined with a ruptured tendon. I'd agree thst he's probably done for the season.

It's odd how stuff like this plays out. The Yankees were going to have to make a difficult move to open up a roster spot for D.J. LeMahieu, who's set to return from the IL tonight. Now that's no longerr an issue. 😥

Great, another league caving to the whims of You-Know-Who.

Okay, a case could be made that Rose not being alive to possibly be inducted would be a punishment in of itself. I figure that’ll be the case for Keith Hernandez because of his cocaine use. But Pete bet on games he managed. Meanwhile, Shoeless Joe and the rest of the “Black Sox” threw the World Series to screw their owner, and they were banned because the first Commissioner wanted them gone.
