Sweet Fellowship: Duggars and Friends (aka the Bates Family and Other Featured Families Thread)

Message added by Scarlett45

If a person/family was never featured on any of the Duggar shows, and is not related to the Duggar family by blood or marriage, they do not need to be discussed here..

We may all agree that David Rodriques is quite unfortunate looking, but let's refrain from comparing human beings to apes, its got way too much of a loaded history- please review the new Inclusion Policy updated May 1, 2022 , which details guidelines around discussing body type, capabilities, physical appearance etc. Additionally, using body size as an insult is not allowed.

Is Amy also implying that she would rather die than live the rest of her life on a vent?  That’s kind of the feeling I’m getting but I could be wrong.

I suspect she's mostly saying that God will give her a miracle and she doesn't need medical assistance to make it happen.  I expect she is still a full code and fully expects that the medical professionals will jump in and save her if she arrests.  And Jesus will fix everything.  Unless she and her husband have signed a Do Not Resuscitate order, she is just referring to this intubation in this particular setting.  Obviously, there is no way to do a bronchoscopy without putting a tube in her throat.

Amy is a quadriplegic. I think she might have partial use of her arms?  She was told that she might not get off a ventilator after the procedure. All she really has is her eyes, ears, voice.      If she’s on a ventilator, she can’t speak to her kids.  If she’s even conscious.   I can understand her point.

If her lungs don't improve, she will still end up on a ventilator and perhaps unable to be weaned from it. That is if she doesn't suffer a respiratory arrest and die.  Refusing the bronchoscopy does not guarantee she will not need a ventilator anyway at some point, nor that she won't deteriorate to the point where she can't speak to her children.  I presume the doctors are looking at all possible options and trying to predict what option gives her the best chance of surviving this life threatening infection and, in their opinion, her best chance is with the bronchoscopy.  If she doesn't survive, speaking to her kids is beside the point.  Also, there are multiple options for people who are ventilator dependent to communicate with their loved ones.

Amy does have some limited use of her arms.

Okay, so I over think emojis, but here I've been going back and forth on whether Jill is doing the compassionate thing by staying out of everyone's way or the selfish Jill thing by not going to offer support. Seeing those messages, which read like a response to something like being stuck at the airport for Christmas (frustrating and disappointing, but not life or death) has officially made my mind up. Jill is...something else...

Wonder what the three Christmas ghosts would show her if they paid her a visit tonight.

I can too.   I would be afraid of going on a vent and then never coming off.   Vents damage the lungs and if you already have damaged lungs you might be afraid of doing more.

Amy is presumably competent to make her own medical decisions.   The doctors have presumably explained all options to her.  If she is choosing to not have a procedure right now, that is her right.  We don't know for sure thet are just trusting god will perform a miracle.   I mean she is in a hospital so they trust medical science at least somewhat.   So let's just presume she is making her own free choice to not have a medical procedure for reasons unrelated to her religious beliefs.

I don't think they can separate their religious beliefs from any important decisions they make.

Eta: Kevin's latest post said that God gave Amy the strength to do a new treatment, and her most recent x-ray showed improvement. So yeah, God is all over her recovery.

So, to be clear, the same woman who wept for days over internet meanies saying she shouldn't be spreading her son's (lack of) sex life all over Hell and creation is reacting to her sister spending Christmas in the ICU and being at risk of going going on a ventilator by having a less "cheery" heart. Sweet Baby Jesus indeed.
