Same here while both continued to commit crimes or just deciding someone was guilty and always ended up right of course. Stabler especially was alway beating up suspects. Towards the end I was only watching for Munch but Benson and Stabler were just so horrible I had to quit. None of the previous for episodes since have ever made me want to watch another episode. 2 2 Link to comment
EtheltoTillie October 4 Share October 4 They’ve already written more lines for Maura Tierney in one episode than they did with Mannheim in a whole season. I wonder if they are shifting focus so that the LT goes on more crime scene visits. 2 Link to comment

With the LT seemingly doing the canvas of the neighborhood normally ordered to be done by the patrol cops offscreen it seemed she was a brand new supervisor and not the trust her people type. Or she worked unseen under Captain Benson and was mentored by her. I guess with more LT we will get less of the sex club going computer detective 2 Link to comment
EtheltoTillie October 4 Share October 4 I have to comment again. Such a bizarre sudden dispatch of Dixon. Does anyone ever really show up to work and just find out that a new supervisor is there? 1 Link to comment

I have seen for cause and medical/family issues cause it. And I served in peacetime. 1 1 Link to comment

This introduction to the new LT is almost identical (to me) to the introduction to Tony Goldwyn as DA Nicholas Baxter in 23.7 "Balance of Power": [RILEY AND SHAW AT THE CRIME SCENE] Whoa. Whoa. Hey, hey. Excuse me. Who the hell are you? I'm Nicholas Baxter. I was just sworn in as district attorney... 30 minutes ago, to be exact. Uh, Detective Jalen Shaw. It's a pleasure to meet you, Detective. Vincent Riley. Pleasure. Uh, it's a pleasure to meet you, sir, but with all due respect, we got this. This is our crime scene. I understand. I was just walking uptown and I saw the swirling lights, and I got excited, thought I'd pop my head inside. Haven't been to a crime scene in over 30 years. Couldn't help myself. And I'm sorry to interfere. Please, get back to what you were doing. There was one more thing. I want you all to know that I'm gonna do everything in my power to create a constructive and transparent relationship with the police. 1 2 Link to comment
EtheltoTillie October 4 Share October 4 (edited) I hope Dixon was already eligible for her pension. Nobody just departs their NYPD job in the middle without that pension! So odd they didn't even mention if she put in her 20. She probably did, though, as she was a lieutenant. But that's the kind of detail that real cops always talk about. I didn't even think it would be a question since most police departments have a maximum age or they are disqualified to join. The LAPD being an outlier which gave us The Rookie. If anything I would think she could be like Sergeant Munch of SVU in being retired from Baltimore PD and double dipping by joining NYPD in his retirement. 2 Link to comment

I have a feeling this was another cost cutting move by the show if I had to guess, if it was done for creative reasons then it’s fucking stupid because anyone can see it’s the legal side that needs a shake up more than the detective side. Really wish that if someone was leaving it was Maroun or Price. Oh well, L&O has always had lots of cast turnover, hopefully they’ll find someone good to be the new squad leader - they’ve done good with the detective side - Shaw and Riley are awesome and have been excellent additions to the show, so hopefully the new Lieutenant will fit right in. But I’ll miss Dixon, and if anyone needs to go, it’s Maroun or Price. Maroun is my least favorite, she was barely on last night and it made the second half better. I don't like Maroun, or Price. They are not good actors. Link to comment

The actress who plays Maroun is the weakest of the main cast IMO, and Maroun just doesn’t do much for me, she’s bland and not that compelling. I’m usually fine with Price, and I don’t think Hugh Dancy is a bad actor, he just comes off as too low key sometimes but I don’t dislike Nolan Price the way some do. I think in some ways the role of the lead prosecutor is the hardest and whoever does it will always be compared to Sam Waterston/Jack McCoy and it’s impossible to live up to that level of excellence. Ben Stone was an awesome lead prosecutor as well, and L&O really hit the jackpot when they brought in Sam/Jack to replace Moriarty/Stone. Both of the post Jack McCoy lead prosecutors, Cutter and Price, just don’t compare to how awesome Jack and Ben were. But I don’t mind Nolan Price usually, that might be an unpopular opinion but he doesn’t irritate me the way he does others. Riley, Shaw and Baxter are my favorites, they are very strong. Jury is still out on the new LT but she’s okay so far and I think she’ll settle in. Price is okay most of the time for me. Maroun just doesn't add much IMO. 1 Link to comment

I sort of agree on Halevi, but I know Dancy has done better work - I honestly think it’s because he’s having trouble with his accent (which is where Linus Roache has him beat). But honestly, the writing has been so bad on the legal side, I don’t think anyone could rescue it most of the time. 1 Link to comment

I know about Hugh Dancy's career, but I think he is not too "natural" in the role (his intonation is a little exaggerated). Choosing a British actor who is trying to mimic an American accent was not necessarily a good idea. 3 Link to comment
GHScorpiosRule October 27 Share October 27 I think this is the appropriate thread to post this. I had stumbled across a YouTube channel where lawyers watch and critique movies and lawyer shows, like that had two for A Few Good Men and one dude for Me Cousin Vinny. So when he does one for this show, does he choose any from the first 20 years? When there are a number of good to excellent episodes? No. Dude decides to critique the first episode when the show returned. Which is such a mockable episode. Hmph.😒😒😒😒 1 Link to comment

I still have mine, and still buy dvds. But my point is the guy making the video could have used his or a dvd. And the original is available on so many cable channels/on demand that viewers can catch them. My point was since he was critiquing this show, he should have picked an episode from the original run. 1 Link to comment
