Eugene: He's Smarter Than You

Does anyone suspect that Eugene has some sort of mental disability? I haven't read the comics and I don't want to assume, but some of his mannerisms, his tone, and just his general vibe are very reminiscent of the people in my life that have Aspergers. There's also the Rainman factor, if he does indeed end up having some answers. Basically, I don't think he's just some socially inept gamer geek with a bad haircut and a dream. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but yeah, xD

Not saying he really is the savior of all mankind, but why would Abraham follow and protect someone so vehemently without a little proof? Unless...are they brothers? Anyone have any speculations of their own?

Also: that freakin' mullet.

I don't think he has Asperger's. I think he supposed to be the stereotypical basement dweller who's only friends are online in whatever guild he's part of or fighting against.

Yeah, he strikes me as a guy who is actually pretty smart, but has limited social skills, and made up a story so stronger people would protect him. It's working out so far.

Eugene [dealing cards in the RV en route to Alexandria]: Seven-card stud, stares and squares. It's aces, cuatros, neeners, and two-eyed jacks.

Tara: So there's 14 wild cards? Are you serious?

Eugene: Serious as two copulating dogs.

Ha.  You called Gabriel "wild".  You joker, you.  lol

But he's one of the "squares". Along with Eugene. The "aces" are Daryl, Carol, Rick, and Michonne.

Too bad Lori and Dale are gone because that would be the "stares".

At least Eugene's self aware: "You will know that I am not combat ready, or even combat inclined."

A refreshing contrast to Andrea shooting Daryl.

Edited to quote from the "Spend" thread:

Eugene, you say you're a coward and, yes, you can be. But you had more courage and heart than the Alexandrian guy who told you to give up the van's driver's seat. But you held firm. You stayed for Glenn. And you saved Tara. I could kiss you full on the mouth you cowardly lion who was brave all along.

Josh McDermitt interview from a few days ago. He talks about going out of his way to help Ross Marquand on the set, the way Andrew Lincoln did with him, which is really sweet.

Access Hollywood.com: Let me just ask you first, did you happen to know Ross, because you guys both did 'Mad Men' [not at the same time]?
Josh McDermitt: No, I didn't know Ross. … He's such a great guy. … His first episode this year was the same episode [as] my first episode last year, so I was out there around the same time. I think it was Episode 10. So, by that time, the season's been going, everyone's kind of clicked in and everything, and I remember walking in thinking, 'Oh boy, I'm gonna be an outsider, ' and Andy Lincoln wasn't in the episode and he drove down to meet with me and Mike Cudlitz and Christian Serratos and to have lunch… And that always left a huge impression on me [and] when I saw Ross for the first time, I thought, I'm gonna do the same thing. I'm gonna make sure I welcome him into the fold, because I know how difficult it can be, and the moment I started talking to him, it actually did feel like I'd known the guy forever. He's super chill, super cool. We both kind of have comedy backgrounds and that sort of thing, but no, we hadn't really met beforehand, and I'm just – I'm looking forward to what our friendship holds for the future.

I've liked Josh ever since his first appearance on Talking Dead, and I like him even more now. Eugene, not so much—but still way more than Fr. Gabriel!

PS. I had no idea Josh & Ross were on Mad Men! Josh was Pete's friend George Payton (from Burger Chef) in two episodes season 7, and Ross was Paul Newman in season 6.

I like how his character has developed. Never thought I would, but I do. However, what I don't like is how the writers seem to be tripling down on the "Eugene-speak" when writing for him lately. I get that using "big" words is kind of thing. It might even be nervous mannerism, that he sort of uses to feel in control when he's scared. But does he have to do it so quickly? In this episode, the syllable per second rate was getting kind of hard to understand.
