My Weight is Killing Me?

Anyone else watched this? I couldn't find a thread for this...

WTH? This father/son duo is just bizarre. First of all, they're completely unprofessional and at least from what I saw, are violating sterile technique repeatedly. I've worked for vets with more stringent operating room protocols...no wonder they have infections. Second, they have the daughter fly down from Ohio because there was no one in the entire state that could fix the problem with her lap band, but they could fix it in "one minute"? Bullshit.

Then we're told that this very young woman weighed only 200 pounds and wore a size 14 when she had her lap band??! How is this an appropriate procedure for her?

This whole thing seems really fake compared with 600 lb Life.

She weighed 185??? I must have done a brain edit to round up, because who in their right mind does that kind of surgery on a twenty-something at that weight?

That puts in straight into the cosmetic surgery category and if it's not against AMA guidelines, I would be shocked. You know it never would have happened if her family didn't have two bariatric surgeons.

Give me Dr. Now any day. These two quacks are scary.

Yeah - surgery on the sister was plain malpractice, I thought.  She was only 185 and a size 14, for goodness sakes!  And at the end the family is standing around talking about how lap band was created specifically for her type of situation.  Bull hockey pucks!  This was vanity surgery, period.  Not life saving surgery.  I'm sure she could have lost the weight with diet and exercise alone.

The younger doctor has come around to helping people change how they eat before jumping into surgery. I'm not sure is a pure vegetarian, but he sure is preaching eating a whole food diet. I'm glad to see that change in outlook. His FB page seems 180 degrees from where he was in terms of outlook when the show aired.

I'm just going to say here that it drives me nuts when patients can lose 40-80 lbs by controlling their intake and then go in for the surgery. I suppose at 600 lbs, you may not have much choice, but at 280 or so, why not continue with the eating program before you screw with all of your plumbing. My endo said they still don't know all of the long term effects of the surgery, so short of morbid obesity, why not try dieting (it wouldn't kill most of these people to go vegan)?

The date on the one I just watched was current, but possibly it was retitled?
It was the man named Scott, and after a disagreement between the docs, they told him he needed to wait a few more weeks.
He then called and fired them.

I'm wondering if he comes back.  I'd hope so.
I don't see any more scheduled, according to my DVR.

Yeah, they are all retitled. They were originally Big Medicine. It only ran from 2007-2008.

They said he was going to another doctor.  Frankly, I don't blame him, those doctors are jerks (too cocky for me)....and their shrink, she has a God complex.

What a change! I'm a FB fan of Dr Davis. Today he posted some pics and about his personal changes going from almost all meat, no exercise, etc. to being vegan and doing an iron man - even though he is 8 yrs older!  He does advise patients to go plant based, but still does the bariatric surgery as well. It seems like a much better mindset than to tell everyone they should get a bypass or lap band.

I can't wait to see Billy's update - where is that going to be? I don't see it on the TLC Season 3 info. There's very little info about him online; only that he's lost weight. I hope he is doing well.

Looking forward t tonight's show.

I saw the first part about Allen, a very large man, but apparently now about 700+.
They had such a hard time getting a large enough ambulance, then gurney, and he had a much rougher time than Dr. Now's patients.
Allen is another one with a doting mother.  Haven't seen the second part of his yet.
This also showed a large woman who was down to 300 lbs, and had surgery to get lower.  She was tall, and large frame, and always looked put together and nice at her heaviest.

I watched a couple of these last night,  featuring Allen, who's down to around 700 from 1000, and boy, they need transport lessons from Dr. Now.
The ambulance was too small, and it looked like about 10 people doing the lifting.
I googled him, and saw that he finally could walk----in a pool.
Does anyone know if he finally lost weight, is he still alive?

Two episodes of this on tomorrow evening, 5/14/18, at 5 & 6PM, ET, on Discovery Life channel (466 on U-verse.)

I caught these. Allen was shocking - he looked like he'd been big for a long time (they showed pics), but there he was just huge and bed bound, with the poor mom doing everything. At one point, he says his mom is his 'right hand,' but I thought that maybe he should make some effort so that his mother wouldn't have to work so hard.
