I'm watching the latest season now, and in the B group, there is one child that honestly has no business being on the show (and all he talks about is his "acting" and "singing"). I mean, like, every single challenge, this kid is like, "Oh, I forgot to include the eggs, the butter, the flour, the baking powder," etc. EVERY TIME. And his resulting creations have all looked absolutely terrible. I normally love the Junior shows (and I still love this season), but it's been distracting to watch this absolutely unqualified kid flounder around while talking about what a good actor he is. I came here to say same thing. How did he get on the show and how did he not go, I think on 3rd episode, and the older girl go before him?! I think they are keeping him for entertainment. But it's not entertaining to watch him completely botch each challenge. His Fish and Chips was awful, and I realize the judges are not going to be harsh but come one. His fish looked nothing close to being a fish. He seems like a nice kid, I just do not know how he got on this show and has not gone home yet. 1 Link to comment
RoxiP June 1, 2023 Share June 1, 2023 I just finished that season and I couldn't agree more. How did he make it through past the first or second show? 1 Link to comment

I ask myself that about Harry Hill on every episode. NOT an appropriate host for a children's show. 2 Link to comment

Oh I so agree - some of his remarks are definitely off color and some of the conversations he has with the children border on inappropriate. Speaking of inappropriate - did you see how fast they got rid of that one little girl whose casually used curse words? 1 Link to comment
caitmcg May 27 Share May 27 The Roku Channel dropped a full season (six episodes) of the Great American Baking Show recently, which you can stream online free at the link (or with a Roku device, obviously), with Paul and Prue judging. 5 Link to comment
caitmcg October 12 Share October 12 Thanks to @TVbitch , who mentioned it in an episode thread, I have been watching the current season of Australian Bake Off, which is ongoing. You can watch it, as well as past seasons, at the broadcaster's site. 3 Link to comment
TVbitch October 12 Share October 12 All the previous seasons of Bake Off AU are there too, plus Great Kiwi Bake Off. Warning: Kiwi Bake off is insufferable!!!! There is a forum for AU Bake off here... (but not much action there!) 2 Link to comment
RealityCheck Thursday at 08:53 AM Share Thursday at 08:53 AM (edited) Olympic champion diver and knitting enthusiast Tom Daley will host a new competition series, Game of Wool (w/t), on Channel 4 UK. Quote Tom will welcome 10 ambitious knitters who will take on a series of complex challenges as they compete to become the UK’s first TV knitting champion. Each episode sees the knitters tackle two challenges: a group knit where they’ll be working together in teams on an extremely complex project, as well as an individual knit where they’ll take on individual briefs that will really test their capabilities and skill level. Each week, the competitors must create a whole host of unique makes and larger than life sculptural pieces -- all made from wool. These include clothing, jewellery, home accessories, furniture, sculptures and they may even try their hands at ‘yarn bombing’. I use to knit and I can't imagine how this is going to work. How interesting will it be to watch a group of people knitting under a time limit? I'm curious enough to watch, at least the first few episodes. There was a show in the UK called The Great British Sewing Bee already. I don't think it ever made its way across the pond like the pottery show and bake off but I think it was rather popular. This makes sense to me if only because of the perfect opportunity for craft and well-known celebrity knitter to host. Link to comment

We used to sew together when I was younger (she's much more accomplished than I am, but I did make an elizabethan gown in middle school for a history project, so I was no slouch myself waaaaay back in the day!) it's a *joy* to see those familiar actions again. We're only in the first season, which includes history lessons as in early years of gbbo and also little projects you can make at home. If it follows the track of other shows, it will soon lose those fun bits, but I hope it doesn't. A great way to make one's fingers itch to play we with some fabric! Link to comment
