cappuccino August 28, 2014 Share August 28, 2014 Has Matt Letscher again found himself embroiled in scandalous happenings…? TVLine has learned that Scandal‘s erstwhile bad boy Billy Chambers will guest-star in the Season 7 premiere of ABC’s Castle as Henry Jenkins, a security consultant who “provides Beckett with information on the most important case of her life.” http://tvline.com/2014/08/28/castle-season-7-premiere-matt-letscher/ and I thought her mom's case was done ;) Link to comment
madmaverick August 28, 2014 Share August 28, 2014 cappuccino, I think that's a reference to Castle being kidnapped. Seems like they've got quite a few guest actors who will be involved with Castle's case. Hope it's not too many interrogation scenes. ;) Good point, Nadine. I hadn't realised that TM's episode would be a sweeps episode. May really be a wedding episode then. Maybe they needed to switch filming order for the venue. Link to comment

WendyCR72 August 28, 2014 Share August 28, 2014 A lot of productions choose to use real guns. It's common. Yep, and that is why safety is crucial. Because God forbid there's another incident like what happened to Jon-Erik Hexum while on the set of Cover Up all the way back in 1984. (And for anyone who is too young to remember this or doesn't know who the actor is or about the incident, here you go.) Link to comment

I think that dress, while extravagant, is waaaaay better than the first concoction he made. S55 August 29, 2014 Share August 29, 2014 halwideman, I've been meaning to ask about your take on this new Derrick Storm series in development. Any thoughts or info you can share about its progress or what ABC's thinking about it is right now? I know it's part of a development deal they probably have with Milmar and, obviously, they're hoping for a lot of Castle fans to check it out if it gets picked up to series. Does ABC envision this as a legit replacement for Castle down the road? Link to comment

madmaverick August 29, 2014 Share August 29, 2014 I’m really curious how this will play out… and if they manage to start this whole new mythology without retconning Castle’s past. Now that the Derek Storm show is in development, I wonder if the new mythology AM seems so keen on exploring on Castle this season, and these secrets with Castle that may unsettle Beckett, are all intended to tie in with that. I hope no character gets dragged under the bus (again) for the sake of setting up a new show. I'm not sure it's plausible if it turns out Castle based Derek Storm on himself all those years ago or something like that. How would they fit something like that with existing canon (being Alexis' full time Dad, shadowing Clara Strike at the CIA)? Not saying they are going there, just speculating. Castle's already found his previously secret CIA Dad so not sure what other secrets he can plausibly have in his past that Beckett doesn't know about. Ideas? Curious about the Montreal episode, the 2nd episode by AM which has been said to both be a semi 2 parter and not part of a 2 parter. What could possibly take Castle and Alexis up to Montreal, relatively soon after Castle's return? Got to be something to do with his disappearance/secrets, right? Excited about this episode... obviously because Castle wears a new shirt :-) Heh, maybe that's finally a plaid shirt I can get on board with. But we don't know for sure if that's Nathan's own shirt or part of Castle's wardrobe. Link to comment

Ideas? Oh I'm quite sure Marlowe can have the writers think of a few that'll knock your socks off. I must admit I can't think of anything he'd be keeping secret from Beckett at this stage which would be a big enough deal to unsettle her or make into some "mythology" and this is what worries me. All the ideas I've had sound like something out of a very bad day time soap. Marlowe loves doing big drama with them getting involved with the likes of the CIA etc so I'm figuring it will be tied into something there. Heh, maybe that's finally a plaid shirt I can get on board with. But we don't know for sure if that's Nathan's own shirt or part of Castle's wardrobe. I bet it's part of Castle's wardrobe, Luke figured they need an airing. Why isn't Beckett being more proactive when it comes to her guy's clothing? Edited August 29, 2014 by verdana Link to comment

Or the CIA secretly implanted this device into Castle when he shadowed them... oh wait, that's this other show. ;) Why isn't Beckett being more proactive when it comes to her guy's clothing? If we can't see her take off his clothing, at least have her buy him some designer duds when she's out shopping for her own. ;) 1 Link to comment
Samantha84 August 29, 2014 Share August 29, 2014 Anything you can share about Castle‘s wedding? — @Always_db03 Does the fact that the wedding will probably happen in season 7 count as “anything”? New showrunner David Amann hinted as much when he chatted with my colleague Samantha Highfill. “We understand there’s disappointment,” he said. “We’re committed to the Castle-Beckett relationship. Over the course of season 7, their relationship will continue to blossom and grow, and perhaps some of the things that people might have wanted to see in season 6 may present themselves a little bit later.” One suggestion: Hold the wedding somewhere within walking distance of both the bride and the groom. Before this would have excited me .. not so much anymore. In season 7 could mean the season 7 finale. Truth be told? I don't care anymore. It happens, it happens. As y'all can tell season 6 and especially the season 6 finale burned me bad. ETA: Scoop is via EW.com 2 Link to comment

madmaverick August 29, 2014 Share August 29, 2014 (edited) Hmm... I'm committed to the Castle-Beckett relationship, but I may or may not watch the show depending on whether some of the things I've wanted to see several seasons ago start presenting themselves in S7. ;) Oh well, at least there's no mention of 'fun' or 'organic' but overall it does nothing to excite me. Questions I wish the new showrunner would answer: - They know there's disappointment. But do they really know how they eff-ed up by stretching out a thin, unsatisfying story arc for the whole season without payoff at the end, and are they doomed to repeat this in S7? Do they think the disappointment doesn't really matter because "they know where the story is going and we don't"? - Wedding aside, do they know what many people really want to see in the writing of the Caskett relationship? I can name quite a few things... ;) Do they realise the problems in their writing of Caskett are more than their failure to deliver on a wedding? Sure, they can give us a great wedding in one episode (like they gave us the Always scene) but if after the high it's back to mostly unsatisfying stuff... Cyranetta August 30, 2014 Share August 30, 2014 If S7 were able to keep the gimmickry to the COTW, I'd be happy to find the wedding more or less irrelevant. As it is now, I almost feel like the gimmickry is being attached to the characters, so that I don't have any confidence that established emotional throughlines won't be sacrificed. Considering that it's the established emotional throughlines (and not just Caskett, but Castle/Alexis, Castle/Martha, Beckett/the 12th) that, for me at least, have led to the appeal of the show, respecting them and amplifying them (Beckett/Lanie, Beckett/Alexis, Castle/publisher) would make for a far more "appointment television" opportunity than wedding WTWT. 2 Link to comment

Keep in mind that most viewers of any given primetime drama don't discuss it or look for info about it on the Internet. PS: That's not a compliment. The WTWT game is the only one Marlowe and co know how to play which explains the whole of S6 and especially the crapfest of the finale and the vagueness of their teasing over when they will finally get married because after that they've got nothing and know it. That's the only dynamic Marlowe feels comfortable with when it comes to writing relationships and the idea of them finally becoming a settled, married couple with no more hurdles to clamber painfully over each season scares him because then he'd have to work on developing the characters more to take up the slack and he's shown scant desire to do that. That's partly why I feel S7 will be the last, despite no clear sign yet that's the case, Castle and Beckett have no scope to develop in the way he prefers writing them long term, which means the show has run out of gas. We may get a S8 because Marlowe figures he can use Castle to get his spin off show off the ground but after that I bet they decide to call it a day. Edited August 30, 2014 by verdana Link to comment

And people are allowed to LOVE OR HATE a show AS LONG AS posters are not attacked and those differences are discussed WITH RESPECT. So remember that and, as Nike said, JUST DO IT. And if there are posters you do not care to interact with, you have two options: Scroll and IGNORE THEM or use the Ignore feature that is available. No one will change another's mind, and no one should be prevented from discussing the show. Again, however, it CAN include dislike as well as like. Differences promote discussion. This is why we're here. So do as above. If this keeps up, other remedies may have to be taken. 5 Link to comment

Sonik Tooth August 31, 2014 Share August 31, 2014 Now that the Derek Storm show is in development, I wonder if the new mythology AM seems so keen on exploring on Castle this season, and these secrets with Castle that may unsettle Beckett, are all intended to tie in with that. I can’t really see how they would do it. As you said, there is really no way Castle could have been someone like Derrick Storm (only in a parallel universe), and then they’ve already been down this CIA route with Sophia and his father. Maybe they could use his books, as in something he’s written about represents itself as a danger to national security or has taken place in reality and Castle doesn’t remember what or who gave him the idea long time ago… Marlowe/Amann are not exactly forthcoming in their interviews, and I can’t think of any circumstances that would allow them to resolve this new mythology in bits and pieces sprinkled throughout the season. The weak conclusion I drew from their “spoilers” so far is that Castle was unknowingly involved in something in the past (which basically can mean anything from partaking to overhearing or seeing) and now had to be somewhere else for a certain amount of time. As for the wedding, I’m thankful for the temporary reprieve. The show is already ridiculous but that would be taking it a bit too far for my taste. Unless they steer completely into the funny/ slapstick territory or reinvent themselves. Link to comment

It was like one long and tasty bite-sized fanfic. If it had to end, it was quite nice ending it on all the wedding advice offered. I thought we might actually see them through to their wedding (and hot, sexy aftermath 'cause the banter there was way wittier and sexier than the actual show) before hiatus ended. A report on Nathan's panel at fan expo Canada: http://nerdbastards.com/2014/08/30/fan-expo-nathan-fillion-wins-the-con-qa/ Cool that Nathan gave off autographed bits of S7 Castle scripts to his fans, and cool that no one's actually posted spoilers from them yet. A fan gave him an actual browncoat on stage and I loved seeing him in one after all these years. And dare I say that coat actually fit better than many of Luke's (not hard, I know). He also talked a bit about Seamus and Jon at his panel and said he would have to do 2 separate cop buddies with them because they were both funny and he couldn't choose between them. Also found it funny that apparently Jon got himself an electric scooter as well after thinking Nathan's was cool, and then Seamus decided he couldn't be the guy without a scooter lol. Can just imagine these 3 dorks racing their scooters during downtime on set. Does Castle actually have Martha on his shoulders (!) in that photo on top of the piano in the loft? Imagined it was Alexis. Camera never really stops there so I can't be sure but I do remember some nice family photos, some black and white ones. High time they added a Castle/Beckett photo to the mix. Too bad I don't really like their one and only photo in a frame. Too photoshopped. Edited August 31, 2014 by madmaverick Link to comment
verdana August 31, 2014 Share August 31, 2014 (edited) Saw this on my dash tonight on someone's blog, no source given. Tumblr will be busy next week if true. dear castle fandom, always deleted scenebloopersdvd extras will be out on tuesday (morning for the us) Cool that Nathan gave off autographed bits of S7 Castle scripts to his fans, and cool that no one's actually posted spoilers from them yet. Actually someone did photograph the page and link it, I saw it on my dash the other day, can I find it now? Of course not. However, I do seem to recall the page was blurred so you couldn't see any of the wording. When I read that I was like huh? I don't remember that! I'll have to look next time. Typical that they don't have a great photo of Castle and Beckett together to put with them, yeah I didn't like that photo shopped one either. Cyranetta August 31, 2014 Share August 31, 2014 (edited) So even they're calling it a day now? Agreed they'll be missed. The sad thing about those accounts is that they were infinitely more entertaining, funny and imaginative then the official ones.Absolutely! Bummer. I'm going to miss the parody accounts. Apparently it was all the work of @fembot77. Pity she's not on the writing staff. (Damn sinuses fogged my brain and I got the name wrong the first go-round) Edited August 31, 2014 by Cyranetta Link to comment
KaveDweller August 31, 2014 Share August 31, 2014 I thought it was interesting when he compared his role of Castle to Captain Mal and said playing Castle was easy and Mal never sucked, for easy I read uninteresting plus the character of Mal never had time so get screwed over by the showrunner unlike Castle who had more depth of character in the first few seasons than he does now. It's kind of hard to interpret what he meant based on a Tweet of someone summarizing his comment (if I am understanding where it came from correctly). I agree about the character of Mal never having time to get screwed over, or to suffer from burnt-out writers. He's talked about Castle being easy from the beginning though. I remember a S1 interview where he said he was a lot like Castle. Absolutely! Bummer. I'm going to miss the parody accounts. It was like one long and tasty bite-sized fanfic. If it had to end, it was quite nice ending it on all the wedding advice offered. They've said good-bye and then come back before, maybe over the winter hiatus. They don't seem to post when there are new episodes. High time they added a Castle/Beckett photo to the mix. Too bad I don't really like their one and only photo in a frame. Too photoshopped. I thought it was so nice that when we saw Beckett's DC apartment they showed a framed Castle/Beckett picture (even though the hair made it obvious it was taken before Caskett actually got together). Is that the photoshopped on you meant? I keep looking for a new Caskett one in the loft, but it hasn't shown up. Castle has pictures of him and Alexis on his dresser too, he should add one with Beckett. 1 Link to comment
KaveDweller August 31, 2014 Share August 31, 2014 Maybe they could use his books, as in something he’s written about represents itself as a danger to national security or has taken place in reality and Castle doesn’t remember what or who gave him the idea long time ago… That would be really interesting, if done well. I could see that be the reason he was kidnapped (which makes more sense than him keeping some big secret about his past). 1 Link to comment
oberon55 September 1, 2014 Share September 1, 2014 Think about the logistics involved with somebody kidnapping him. The wedding location was a spur of the moment decision. It would have to be someone who not only knew about the wedding but also that Castle would be traveling on his wedding day. Unless they have been trailing along behind them throughout the whole forgotten wedding cluster**** it almost has to be someone with up to date knowledge on Castle. The good thing is with their track record & attention to detail I'm sure we are in for a believable & engaging story. Link to comment

I remember him saying that Castle was a lot like him but at least back then although there were probably similarities I thought he created a character that was distinctive and fleshed out with scope for further development. However, over the last season or so it feels sometimes what I'm watching is Nathan Fillion joking around on set with his pals because there's so little substance injected in there to support Castle as a character by the writers. The great thing about Firefly of course as Nathan himself has admitted is that it didn't have time to grow old and stale like too many shows end up doing.
