This year's and last (so far) Judas Priest album "Invincible Shield" (2024). More or less the same quality as their last album. Still, I have to admit, that I prefer their modern sound over their classic one.

As always, subjective assessments of each album:

Well, been listening to my own country's repertoire (on a third solo artist now Ovidijus Vyšniauskas). I think that the best song of his is "Nidai" (For Nida) [a song about a resort town in Curonian Spit that annually helds a festival called Let's Swim to Nida (Plaukiam į Nidą), which is (incidentally) also a hymn for the festival that was composed in 1994.

Approximate lyrics:

[Verse]

Wind...

Warm wind through the sea

Brings your quiet voice to me.

My thoughts...

Light sails in the mist

Ship of memories comes back to thee.

Golden Summer castle

Here, the night hides the sun.

Oh, sea...

Your blood in me

And the lot to live among the winds that's destined for me.

Voice...

I again hear your voice

It drowns out thousands other voices.

The night again hides the sun

We hurry to you.

The rains are pouring down the road

And hope enters the heart.

[Chorus x2]

The music, which I have composed to thee

From the night, and from the day...

My sea, I have come to thee again

To share my songs...

[Verse 2]

We hurry to you...

The rains are pouring down the road

And hope enters the heart...

[Chorus x3]

I've always liked this song of hers and the video for it too...

I didn’t remember the performance I posted but I definitely recall this song.  I think it was a big deal at the time because it was the first anyone saw of her after leaving the Spice Girls

Oh, I remember that "Look at Me" song. That video channel The Box used to play that one a lot back in the day.

I’m starting to feel old because I remember The Box as well.  I think it merged into Mtv2 abruptly one day though?

Just when you thought the depths of theme-metal had been fully explored, here comes Kanonenfieber. An anti-war World War One black/death metal band. I haven't looked through their lyrics, but Wikipedia says that they're all about the pointlessness or futility of war in general, the men at the front being fed into the meat grinder.

They also have an interesting stage act. I like the sand bags around the drums, the fake barbed wire at the front of the stage. Just a cool look entirely. And I wonder if they'd ever tour with Sabaton, or if Sabaton might be a little too on the glorification side. Anyway, check out a live video.

I liked the melody in the background, not a fan of growling though. Yeah, seems lie an interesting act

Anyways, began Nightwish discography; and I still say that their first album is better than Oceanborn!

You go down the path set by Judas Priest and Nightwish, you're going to get used to growling. :) It's a sometimes food, but now is the right time. Anyway, my favourite Nightwish album would probably be Wishmaster.

Second Nightwish album "Oceanborn" (1998). Okey, pretty on par with their first one, though. Either they remastered their older albums recently or... because the production quality on Spotify of both of these albums is far better than I remember (or maybe because I have better set-up then ripped 120 kB sound files decades ago lol)... And I'm reluctant to admit, but yeah, the production quality alone makes it the better album.

Edit: Though, I guess I understand why people prefer Oceanborn over Angels Fall First - because it's faster and has more cool riffs, and the first album is slower and more folkey like.

Sixth Nightwish album "Dark Passion Play" (2007). And, now, I enter Annette's era in the band. Yep, as I remember it, pretty subpar [for this band]. Almost no melodic riffs (or at least riffs that would stand out), standard rhythm, standard vocals etc. until the ending portion (then it picks up). You know, the opposite of what were the first five albums. At least two memorable things came out from this album - The Islander, as well as, Last of the Wilds.
