S16.E07: Chicago Crossover

This week's crossover was okay for me. At least it was fair calling it a crossover this time around, compared to last season's BS that is. I refuse to watch Chicago Fire since they killed of Shay but I'd spoiled myself what happened, that tiny slice that actually belonged to the crossover, so I was caught up.

I liked the interaction Amaro & Rollins had with the PD detectives. I can't stand Voight, a big reason why I jumped off CPD after only two episodes - he'd been making a fool of himself on Fire for a few eps so how he was allowed to run a squad was beyond me - and the fact the blonde in the CPD pilot was a goner the moment you laid eyes on her - bad writing all around so I usually don't watch CPD.

The case was gripping and interesting. Teddy/Pucci was awesome. I liked the Amaro/Rollins transference to Halstead/Erin. I would've liked some Amaro/Ruzek/Rollins tension in Chicago. Since the writers initially wanted Rollins to hook up with someone in Chicago and Ruzek being the obvious choice - Warren putting a stop to that - I wish they could've at least played a little towards a flirtation, angry brows Amaro is fun to see.

The honoring of the dead cop, his wife & daughter walking out of the station with everyone lined up, gave me goose bumps. Well played.

I missed Carisi. I wish they wouldn't rotate Fin/Amaro/Carisi like they seem to be doing, why can't all three be in the same ep?! I understand why Barba wasn't involved tho but at least we'll be seeing him next week, apparently we won't see Carisi until December :(

One question; were we supposed to read something in to Amanda's reason for being late? Stuck in the tunnel? I'm just curious. Liv seemed pissed at her but what else is new?!

I personally hate Carisi so was happy for an ep without him

I don't necessarily hate him, but I'm certainly not as enamored by him as everyone else here seems to be all of a sudden.  So I didn't shed any tears over him being absent.  This episode was better with all of the more established characters in it, anyway.

I just watched this episode thinking, Wow.  Little Will Munson from ATWT is all grown up and on CPD!  Jesse Lee Soffer did a pretty good job! :)  And whoever plays Erin did fine, too.

Agreed about Olivia and Voight.  They worked very well together.

All in all, I watched more for the interactions between the characters from both shows rather than the case itself, so I was happy with what we got.:)

No Carisi until December? Awwwww. He's my favorite character.

I noticed Olivia looked a bit skeptical when Amanda said she was late because of traffic, but I don't think it was Olivia being pissed just for the sake of being pissed, I think it was more of a throw back to last season when Amanda was struggling with her gambling addiction and flaking on work when the squad was short handed and lying to Olivia about it. It looks like Olivia still doesn't trust Amanda completely and maybe was questioning if she's back to her old antics.

Still hoping they'll address the issue between Benson and Rollins because they keep suggesting that they're not on the best of terms and we can see the tension there, but I don't buy that Olivia and Amanda wouldn't have made an attempt to hash things out already.

When Carisi was first introduced, I didn't like his character.  I'm not sure if it's because I'm crushing on Peter Scanavino or if they've softened Carisi up a bit (he looks and sounds a lot different now compared to the first episode), but SVU now seems to have regained some of its mojo.  His absence in this episode was noticeable.  Is it okay to watch a show for an actor?  LOLZ

Yes, the writers have softened him up quite a bit. No more mustache (which was ridiculous), no more zeppole. One thing they haven't mentioned since that first episode is that he was going to law school at night. I wonder if they will pick that thread up again. Combine that with the way he was with the homeless guy in the Glasgowman episode, it's like he's SVU's version of Lupo from the original L & O. And considering that Lupo was one of my all time favorites, I'm fine with that.

I know @Suzy123 I was gutted when I read Warren's tweet. I wish the entire squad could be in every episode. I like what they all bring out of each other, that - along with interesting cases of course - is what makes the show entertaining to me.

Thanks @Everleigh I get the tension between Benson & Rollins, I don't like it but I get it. I was just wondering if 'stuck in the tunnel' was a reference to 'stuck on the bridge' like in Jersey Breakdown. Sometimes things like that is a bit tricky to follow when you're not that familiar with the city of NY. Like I had not idea Atlantic City was that close to NYC.

In the episode "Producers Backend" Rollins says to Carisi "Were you sick the day that they went over statute of limitations at law school?" Then there was a short discussion on it. That's the only other mention of Carisi going to law school I can recall.

They stretched one story across three shows, and the credibility with it.

Fortunately I went to SVU first, so only had to watch the Chicago PD episode afterward.   Had a strong sense of deja view watching this story.   Felt like I'd seen it before on SVU.  At first I thought the most unbelievable plot element was the idea that EVERYONE connected with the kidporn ring was systematically eliminated before they could talk.   Who was this Big Bad, Walter White?

No, just some flabby old desk jobber who is apparently so incorrigibly evil he can kidnap and expose countless children to public rape and other brutalities over a span of 15 years, mercilessly slaughter his own employees ... and then, after a cliche-ridden, 90-second pep talk from Olivia Benson, find his inner Hallmark moment and fold like a lawn chair.

BULL.  SHIT.

Voight seemed like the only genuine character in the bunch.   It was funny as he stared aghast at SVU's interrogation, suggesting that maybe Olivia should play the perp some music and dance with him.

I'm totally crushing on Peter Scanavino. He has really beautiful eyes...lol! But, his character adds a different dimension to the show. It feels like a breath of fresh air. SVU has been getting stale lately and I was close to stop watching. I'm sick of all the characters except for Carisi, Fin, and Barba. I would watch a show centered just around them.

I hate crossovers. If I wanted to watch those other shows, I'd watch 'em. These crime shows are full of confusing plot holes as it is...adding a whole other layer of cast characters is hard on my brain. Phooey.

Its worse than plot holes to me. The univeres are just incompatible. At their worst nothing Detectives Stabler or Fontana has done comes close to the Jack Bauer like actions of Chicago PD's Intelligence squad. At least with Homicide Life On The Street crossovers about the only difference was when to stop an interrogation because a lawyer request was made. I was amazed how Sergeant Benson was able to bring the New York Supreme Court L&O view to CPD in the final act.
