Phebemarie Wednesday at 04:49 AM Share Wednesday at 04:49 AM I felt sorry for both Jaspar and the other nurse whose birthday was forgotten. I know St. Denis isn't realistic, but Portland has more than 20 sushi restaurants. They are not in Portland. Joyce has commented on a couple of occasions how great St. Denis is, although, of course, they cannot compete with hospitals in a big city like Portland. Good line though, “We have one sushi restaurant… and one Greek restaurant… and they are the same restaurant.” Paints quite a picture. Also loved Alex’s “Now I understand how men feel. Just tell me what you want!” when she couldn’t figure out why Serena is not happy. They showed all of the wrong ways to approach a cat. I know it's just a sitcom and it was all for laughs, but seriously, so many people don't understand cats at all!! 😜 I didn't know they can carry the bubonic plaque though!! Yikes! Joyce chiming in with 'let's call it the Giggles!' I don't pay attention to the ratings & audience numbers, so I hope this show is doing well. It's one of my favorites. 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151947-s01e12-buffalo-bruce-and-matty-the-kid/#findComment-8585193

iMonrey Wednesday at 05:05 PM Share Wednesday at 05:05 PM Can cats really carry the bubonic plague? And if so, where on earth did this cat pick it up? Serena's change of heart was a bit sudden for someone who dreamed of traveling all over the world. I'm like Alex - the very suggestion of it gives me indigestion. Did Matt say he bought the chain necklace at Claire's? Definitely a girl's necklace then. He can't be that dumb. Chit Chat Wednesday at 05:50 PM Share Wednesday at 05:50 PM Here's a link to info about cats & the bubonic plague: The Giggles One snippet from the link: "Flea bites, contact with infected rodents, or inhalation of infected saliva droplets can transmit Y. pestis bacteria" I've had cats my entire life, but I didn't know they could be carriers of the bubonic plague! I had one cat who clawed and bit me pretty hard (hurt like an SOB!) due to some displaced aggression towards another cat, and like Matt, I held onto her so that she didn't hurt the little kitty she was mad at. I had to go to the doctor and get antibiotics, but nobody mentioned the possibility of the bubonic plague! 😲 Oh well, I'm not afraid of 'em and I still love cats! 41 minutes ago, iMonrey said: Did Matt say he bought the chain necklace at Claire's? I think he's just extremely naive and was probably sheltered from worldly things while growing up. I'm not sure how he couldn't see that Claires is a girly girl store! That is dumb! 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151947-s01e12-buffalo-bruce-and-matty-the-kid/#findComment-8585341
possibilities Wednesday at 10:47 PM Share Wednesday at 10:47 PM I also felt bad for the cat and I don't like the way the show makes a joke out of everybody bagging on Keith. At least they paid if off in the end with giving him the concert tickets. I love cats, and I am guessing bubonic plague is rare enough that it doesn't get mentioned in regular vet care or cat education for that reason. It also might be a regional thing-- more common in some places than others? And if your cat stays indoors, probably there's no way for your cat to be exposed... unless I guess you have mice? Fleas, though-- ugh. Where do they even come from? Fleas are a vector for tapeworm, that much I know. No vet ever mentioned plague to me, but then I suppose they figure if you have fleas you will treat them, and then the risk disappears? I'm overthinking the show, I know I am. I do this a lot. Don't get medical advice from medical tc shows, especially not sitcoms!! I do know that, at least! They wouldn't know you have plague unless they specifically test for it, though, would they? It's not in the standard battery of tests a person gets, is it? 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151947-s01e12-buffalo-bruce-and-matty-the-kid/#findComment-8585604

It's not in the standard battery of tests a person gets, is it? IIRC, Bruce mentioned that all of the usual tests for respiratory infections came back negative, so "we're in rare disease territory now! Exciting, right?" I'm not sure on a blood test what would stand out to indicate such a disease, but Bruce rattled off some rare diseases and seemed to know what tests to run next, but then he saw the scratches on the patient's arm and figured it out. Back to the ineptness of the people trying to catch the cat, the first mistake was not closing the door in the patient's room. Cats are quick and will get away in a heartbeat. Throwing one's keys at a cat (Joyce) and then pursuing it with a blanket weren't too bright either! 😜 Being calm and patient are key when dealing with cats!! 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151947-s01e12-buffalo-bruce-and-matty-the-kid/#findComment-8585643

This is something that I dislike about the show, when the characters are stupid, or behave in a stupid fashion, simply for the sake of a joke. 47 minutes ago, Chit Chat said: I'm not sure on a blood test what would stand out to indicate such a disease, but Bruce rattled off some rare diseases and seemed to know what tests to run next, but then he saw the scratches on the patient's arm and figured it out. shura Yest. at 01:07 AM Share Yest. at 01:07 AM I had no idea what boyfriend jeans were, had to look it up now. If I heard the term before, it never registered. So it wouldn’t have raised any red flags for me. On the other hand, pretty sure it wouldn’t be a selling point either. As for the chain, Matt bought it to impress Serena and, as far he is concerned, she was impressed. For the reason of it being gender-bending, but that’s details, it’s the way she said it! Seriously though, she did say it in a very warm way, didn’t she? 42 minutes ago, txhorns79 said: I was confused why Bruce was doing the exam. Isn't he a surgeon? He didn't seem to be presenting in need of surgery though. Or maybe Bruce steps in if the ER is busy. He does seem to be close by when he's not in surgery. Even if it's a bit farfetched for him to be there, I'm glad he's part of the main group. He's pretty funny. It really, really bothered me that they were handling the plague situation themselves, and not immediately calling the CDC as required. Silly how Bruce and Joyce put on gowns and gloves to talk to the plague patient. They'd be wearing respirators, as plague can be transmitted through droplets. They'd isolate the patient as best they could before fiddling with the cat. It would be a very big disruption to the hospital. 1 hour ago, txhorns79 said: I was confused why Bruce was doing the exam. Isn't he a surgeon? Yes! He shouldn't be diagnosing non-surgical patients. He shouldn't be roaming the floor. He seems to be a jack-of-all trades, not a specialist. The problem is that Ron is the only other doctor we've really met, so Bruce gets thrust into situations he's not meant to be. Don't they have an infectious disease specialist there? 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151947-s01e12-buffalo-bruce-and-matty-the-kid/#findComment-8585863
