“Companion” a dark comedy/psychological thriller opens in theaters on Friday, January 31.

“Finding Your Roots” is a TV series on PBS.
“The $100,000 Pyramid” is a game show on Hulu and Prime Video. I think I may have also seen a celebrity version of this show on ABC during prime time…

I saw a snippet on The Daily Show? I think,  where Gretchen also did the conciliatory spiel about working with Trump, as some are predicting Fetterman will do on the show today.

Reminds me of WWII, Chamberlain believing Hitler wd stop if he got  Sudetenland.

Gretch was targeted to be killed by T's followers.

What kind of world are we living in?

We can compare and contrast  how each frames their current approach to this administration. .

Sen. Fetterman seemed to say he supports the Dreamers (now-grown children of undocumented people who were brought to the US at a young age) and it was in the same breath as talking about what he and Trump could work on together - but is that true? Trump would work with Democrats to allow Dreamers to stay? What about a pathway to citizenship?

He said his wife is a Dreamer. I looked it up and although Gisele Fetterman's mother brought her children here from Brazil - all undocumented - she, Gisele, achieved US citizenship in 2009. I didn't know that was possible.

I'm trying to recall if he said anything else about what issues he and Trump could work together on. I can understand keeping a conversation like this private, but Trump and to some extent Fetterman seemed to want to let everybody know that it happened for political points.

I was taken aback when he said that the New York business fraud trial was political persecution.

John & Gisele got married in 2008, so she probably applied for citizenship with her husband, a US citizen, sponsoring her.

Joy was on Finding Your Roots recently, which I expect HLG will mention. I don't recall whether he found a genetic link to previous people who had been on the show. Bernie Sanders & Larry David were a good match and I believe Larry had played Bernie in a skit before he learned that they are related.

No, they didn't mention any link with another celebrity.  I was disappointed since I love when that happens.  Yes, I remember when it was revealed to Bernie Sanders and Larry David that they were distant cousins.  Larry played Bernie several times on SNL sketches.

I wish Joy or Ana wd have asked Alyssa if she believed the $825,000 + of taxpayer money is worth it to move undocumented workers -- some who are criminals -- back to Mexico and Columbia.

And why does it cost so much? Or ask a taxpayer, even one who is Republican, on the street, if it's worth it.

SO many questions for Alyssa: What cd one find  any explanation or listing of these workers' nationality and crime? Were they in jail/prison? Does the due process of the American court system apply to undocumented? What about the criminals' victims? Are the court cases just dismissed? And knowing how so many workers go back and forth seasonally, are the victims aware that their perpetrator is essentially free and may likely come back? Where can one find the answers to these questions, Alyssa?????

I wish Sunny or Ana wd barrage Alyssa with these questions and watch her head explode or at least wipe the grin off of her face.

Will none of the other hosts push back on Dems......Fetterman, Whitmer, future Dem guests, etc.,  capitulating to Trump?

Or ask about the imperative to  build a strong outspoken group of leaders NOW?

Are they so afraid of losing VIP guests?

Then they had better not tout their bragging about their oh so lauded role of a "news" show informing the grateful masses.

Where are their guts? Sunny? Ana?

And Whoopi?  So is it the time yet that you  advised us frequently to wait and see...until he was officially president?  What should we do now that you chided us not to panic and wait for it?  What,  Whoopi?

I am so disgusted with them all.

Probably not, because they're useless as interviewers.  Fetterman and Whitmer want to get elected again.  Fetterman represents PA which went for Trump in the last election.  Whitmer will probably seek a Senate seat in 2026 in Michigan, another state Trump won.

Didn't she say that was per flight because it was the army versus $80,000 per flight for a charter.

Yes, the biggest transport plane that the army has, because trump is all about the symbolism.

Gretchen Whitmer has gotten mushy in her stance because she’s already running for president. (Which I posted before Alyssa asked.)

Alan Cumming is delightful.

(Bolding is mine)

This is true. In many cases, they only talk about the things they all agree with. When there's someone with different perspectives and opinions, they make a little effort to get them to agree but if that fails, then they don't delve into the other person's reasoning. Interviewing isn't meant to determine who is "right" and who is "wrong", but to elicit information that the audience hasn't heard and understand the rationale of the interviewee.

Michigander here, and I don’t think it’s fair to lump Whitmer in with Fetterman. She’s not the one going to Mar-a-Lago to kiss the ring. Being a governor is different than being a senator, and her main priority is to keep the funding for the state, and that requires picking her battles.

I do feel for Whitmer having had death mobs after her and her family at her doorstep. I hope/imagine she upped her security even more after the recent election.

I do think she was targeted extra for being a woman. Misogyny is hallmark of male insecurity. Goddess help her.

How ridiculous is it that the elected leaders have to play nice/  doublespeak/ bow/ grovel/ for their state's funding because the one in charge has such a fragile ego coupled with a cruel mean streak and followers of the same ilk?

This is the United....States of America. Where is that vision in our politicians?

What is that saying,  when we fall, we fall together... when we rise,  we ???

Ugh.  Sarah and Alyssa talking about the invitation to podcasters and influencers in the WH press room. These people are not journalists!  And people who rely on such to get their news are part of the problem!  Today I’m totally Team Sunny with wanting unbiased reporting for news. And thanks, Sunny, for knocking down that report about Covid. The fact it is “low confidence” is the footnote that is not being reported.

Good for Sunny for correcting Alyssa's statement about the CIA's recent decision that the Covid virus escaped from the Wuhan lab. Sunny pointed out that the announcement came with "low confidence" that a lab leak was more likely than a natural occurrence. The report said that the "CIA continues to assess that both research-related and natural origin scenarios of the COVID-19 pandemic remain plausible.” Intelligence reports always issue a confidence rating, from high to low. Low confidence means the information is unreliable, which is probably why the NYT ran with it a day later than some outlets.

BTW, the assessment was a review of data, not a new investigation, and the report was written before the inauguration, although not released until Jan. 25.

So they cut short the talk about Kennedy to make time for a stupid social fluff piece later in the show?  Gah!!!!

" Woke" or wokeness started out as a term for racial equality... civil rights for people of color.  It has evolved as awareness of the  humanity and equality and rights for  BIPOC, women, LGBTQ+, differently-abled,etc.,  those others who are not white male.

Yes,  Gloria Steinem and Betty Friedan, Bella Abzug, Shirley Chisholm, etc., were spokespeople for women's rights from the early 1960s forward. We are still striving for recognition and equality.

And yes,  many women don't realize the struggle others had to enable them to be White House staff.

Saying "wokeness" won't be mentioned in the Press Room is just another way of claiming that their  administration is sexist,  racist, classist, etc.

But we knew that.

Whoopi you idiot.... what we fought for all those years ago was NOT called "wokeness".  The movement was called "Women's Lib" headed by Gloria Steinem. There was never any mention of all what wokeness encompasses.

I took what she said to mean that it's now called wokeness rather than equality & both are the same things by different names because they're at different times in history. Oh and it sounds better & more palatable than saying "there will be none of that equality stuff in this white house".

Same horse different jockey.

Yes it's their way of saying they are racist sexist bigots without saying they are racist sexist bigots.

Although I hate the word woke my definition of it is being respectful of people who aren't like you. It's not a hard to understand concept.  Everyone should be given the same opportunities regardless of race gender sexual identity or religion.  Just be a nice person.

White feminism. Second wave feminism. You Are correct, it was not inclusive and was focused on the needs of white women.
