Whenever I see that car Jimmy drives, I think, if your wife died in a car accident, wouldn't you want to drive something other than that death trap? It's just we saw the car a lot this episode and even had a long scene set in it, so I had to think about that a lot.

He didn't even have a seat belt on when he drove up. Guess he wants his daughter to be an orphan.

Another episode of Shrinking, another dubious depiction of therapy.

Would Jimmy actually "treat" Brian, a close family friend?  Maybe give him informal advice but to have him in  his office?  Maybe he won't bill him.

So the Liz infidelity story is over, Derek and Liz are behaving as they were before.  But they got a couple of episodes out of it.

Now Liz could go back to her overbearing self, trying to give Brian advice on how to parent.

Gaby's latest problem is that her mom wants to move in with her, which would interfere with her plan to make her home The Bone Zone or Titty Land with what's his name, the other Derrick.

Brian and his husband get rejected for adoption by a young birth mother.

Alice trying to get a boyfriend or a fuck buddy, also not be seen by her peers as that poor girl who lose her mother.

What is this show about again?

Last episode was so good and then it all crashes with this episode.

Once more Jimmy is in the background and all the secondary characters are in the front. Why is Brian and Liz still getting their own storylines while Jimmy is now a supporting character without his own storyline?

Jimmy, Paul and Gaby are the only 3 characters I am interested in, and their storylines are decent. But I think this show is losing its footing.

None of these episodes are perfect but if you weed through some of the noise (Liz and some others) there is a lot of meat on the bone. Jimmy's advice to Alice was not only spot on but also so valuable in helping her find her way in her social circle. Paul is grumpy but always tells it like it is. He has given Gaby some great direction. I haven't been that interested in the adoption storyline but I like how it played out, including Charlie supporting Brian and encouraging him.

Aside from what has been mentioned, I really got hung up on Gaby pulling them out of the food truck to yell at them. Then they are all just hanging around chatting at a table. Wasn't it at lunch time during peak business? I was too annoyed to rewind but there were customers there at least when she did it. Maybe Sean's dad was there too and I was too annoyed to notice.

I think Brian just burst in. Jimmy said something about not getting paid because he had to cut a session with an actual client short.

So I think it was just informal advice, but in his office.

I mean... Dylan really DID have a full grown dude face.

Probably because the actor is 26. Don't know, the joke falls kinda flat, when the guy with a full grown dude face is just a full grown dude.

And the actor playing Alice is 23. Young adults playing teens is practically a Hollywood tradition. We go along with the joke. 🤷‍♂️

Sure, but they don't joke about Alice having full grown woman face. For a joke to work something has to be contrary to expectation (in this case at least, there are other kinds of jokes).

"Look, that man has a man's face!" is not a joke, it's just a statement.

“Look, that teen has a man’s face” is the joke. It’s make-believe. We pretend he’s 17, despite his age in real life, just like we pretend Alice is subject to her father’s rules even though she’s 23 in real life.

But whatever. I thought it was an amusing bit. You decided to look up the actor’s age. It’s not worth arguing about. Enjoy your day.

I could buy him as 17, because I see kids in high school with much more facial hair than that. I thought it was weird for Jimmy to think that 17 year olds can’t have facial hair- when does he think guys go through puberty?

Even though I love this show, I hate how they use the intrusiveness of the characters to try to make us laugh. I didn’t find it funny that Gabby barged in and make Sean close for lunch when he had paying customers, and then Brian did the same to Jimmy. Don’t even get me started on Liz. We get that everyone is very self centered, but come on.

Did the writers forget everything from season one about how horrific Sean's experience in the military was? He was absolutely hanging on to life by a thread because he was so haunted by it. Now he's wholeheartedly encouraging someone to enlist? Sure, whatever.

If Brian and Charlie get chosen by a future adoptive mother, they need to move away and assume new identities before Liz can find them.

One thing irritated me about that storyline - they would need the consent of the father, so shouldn't they be meeting with him too? Hollywood constantly forgets that anyone other than the pregnant woman has a say in these situations.

They're mentioning Brian's conservative father a lot, so I have a pretty strong guess who we'll be meeting in season three.
