Absolom December 7 Share December 7 That is my neighbor who was complaining and complaining about the cost of things and especially gas. I can't remember the last time all their cars stayed home for the entire day. I can stay home easily four to five days in a row, but she has trouble making it until noon every single day. Her husband used to go get coffee every morning. 9 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/150441-chit-chat-the-feels/page/57/#findComment-8526492

Yeah No December 7 Share December 7 11 hours ago, PRgal said: @Yeah No I, too, always feel like I have to explain myself because my beliefs are, like you, often "different" from everyone else's. And then I'm shamed. Shamed to bits. Especially from my parents who always tell me I DON'T need to explain. I don't know if it's my neurodivergence issue (I'm using it as a general term since I feel I was misdiagnosed as ADHD and am really on the autism spectrum). Well, if I don't explain, you're just going to think I'm ignorant. I quit a diversity and inclusion group a few years ago because they were nothing but mean to me. I hated that they wanted to put me in a box because of my background. And it was an incorrect box, too. I'm more than just that box. These groups tend to do that. I recently sent in an inquiry to the graduate admissions department that included the line If you were to ask me to identify myself, I’d just tell you that it’s “complicated” unless you want a full lecture! Now I'm worried they think I'm a bit nuts.....or maybe not...they could challenge me to write an entire thesis on that topic.....if I get in. Thank you. I have never fit neatly in any box myself. You see it as possibly a function of your neurodivergence. I often see it in my case as a function of being a very rare personality type. And I'm ethnically diverse, an only child and grew up around parents that were pretty progressive for their time. And growing up in NYC is a rather unique experience too. I haven't had a typical or average life. So when people try to put me in boxes they often fail and thus fail to understand me. Interestingly when I brought up personality type on the general Chit Chat thread it didn't surprise me who shared my type or was close to it. They were always the people whose posts resonated for me the most. I have always struggled in written communication with Thinking types. I am a Feeling type so my point of view is primarily values driven. Thinking types will sometimes pick apart my words and misunderstand where I'm coming from. I'm very well aware of this phenomenon after spending over a decade on personality type mailing lists/chat boards where this was talked about all the time. Also I tend not to "know my place" as people perceive it to be and have a problem retreating to my corner when I feel that someone is putting words in my mouth or putting me down in some way. I'm an only child and so pecking orders are not my thing. I'm much quieter in public and don't get myself in those situations too often but online where words are everything it's been a factor for me. Don't put my back up against a corner. I won't back down. I spent too much time being bullied as a kid to let that happen. I don't know why my words attract that sort of thing. I don't even have to open my mouth to get that kind of response, though. I really don't know what it is. I think I threaten some people because they can't put me in a box but that's really their issue. I don't try to cause conflict, but I tend to attract it. I'm really just the opposite. I want everyone to love each other and live in peace and harmony. Because it's good for THEM. I'm the eternal idealist. But sometimes people don't get or like that. They want to hold onto grudges and hate and don't see the inconsistency and conflict between that and standing for human rights, etc. What can I say? Not my values. What gets me is that much of what I write I've found elsewhere written by serious writers, and often it's very close to how I put it, so I know I'm not just some weirdo with strange ideas. And I was a great student in school so obviously I impressed my professors. And also what gets me is that other people will come along later and say the exact same thing but nobody will pick their words apart! And BTW, I hate to say this but I've found that the most militant people in defense of inclusion can sometimes be the most critical and exclusionary themselves. I have no problem saying that although I know it will probably piss off some people who will take it personally even though I haven't directed it at them. 12 hours ago, Anela said: I’ve been shamed a lot, too. Anela December 7 Share December 7 (edited) 7 hours ago, Dimity said: I know there are people truly suffering right now but I still have to shake my head at the attitude here. I was in our local grocery store today and a woman about my age was filling her cart with all sorts of goodies and extras - we're not talking Kraft Dinner and peanut butter here - and we ended up talking at the checkout line and she went on and on about the prices and how hard it is. Oh yes? Then perhaps some of those pricey convenience meals and the steaks and, oh yes, the Nespresso coffee could have been left on the shelf. My point, and I do have one, is that so many of the people going "oh the economy" haven't actually made any real changes to their buying habits. Not real ones. But it's sure fun to complain as if you actually are having to choose between groceries and the hydro bill. We just bought a tree for too much money, and I was extremely careful about what I bought in the store (groceries + trees and plants outside), because of that. I almost said that we shouldn't get a tree, but we literally don't do anything else. Nothing. And I can't afford to splurge on anything for me or him, I haven't had presents to wrap since my mum died, he's always gone, and he gets to complain about the gas, because his job involves driving. I'm sitting in the dark a lot, trying to save money. We also were lucky to still have a good amount of food at home, because I was feeling too sick to use it over Thanksgiving. But nobody should be having to give up their little occasional indulgences, because stores have decided to hike their prices, yet again. If someone asked me if I really needed the iced chai I get once a week, when I finally leave the house? Yes. Yes, I do. I bought Tazo boxed chai, so I can make it at home, and it costs about the same as one drink, so I'll be doing that, and likely not getting the drink when I'm out - since I won't need it as a treat, anymore. That isn't directed at Yeah No - I understand why you're connecting it to the economy, and voting. It's a thing that's bothered me for over a decade. I would see posts from people, criticizing what others had in their carts, and it was worse if they found out the person was on welfare. You cannot win, when it comes to the people who think that welfare shouldn't be a thing. But this isn't what I came here to talk about. I'll post that in a minute. Oh, but another post just reminded me of trump posting a picture of Switzerland, with the Canadian flag on it, like he was coming for Canada next. Tell us you want to be an actual dictator, without saying it out loud (although he has also done that). Canada is certainly going to follow suit when their federal election is held next year (they have a Trump-like candidate in the making themselves). British Columbia, which is probably the province doing best by any measurement, nearly had the incumbent government lose. Last year, Manitoba changed their government, Alberta's incumbents narrowly held on, this year Saskatchewan nearly did and New Brunswick has changed. Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia are looking to be the only provinces to buck the trend so far. Now we have South Korean presidents attempting coups out of loneliness (Leaders being held accountable for trying to overthrow the government? Never heard of such a concept 😜) and France has censured and deposed their PM in Parliament apparently. Overall, anti-incumbent sentiment has been the norm globally over the last year or so. I think a big part of it, is the conspiracy theories around Covid. I have former friends who were fully on the conspiracy train. Including a guy from one of the countries you mentioned, from my past, who talked about wanting to marry me once, since Covid. He went off the deep end with it all, so that was another "no" for me. When I was in the store earlier - a little independent grocery store, with some good prices on fresh food, that sells healthy foods, and supplements - I heard a man talking with the woman who oversees the supplement area, about all kinds of things, and how we just need to ditch the meds, etc, etc. She was agreeing with him, as he then started to talk about how he was driving around when Covid started, saying, "this isn't a real pandemic". I don't know what his job was, but he was making home visits to patients, and one woman asked him if it was real. He asked her why she was paying attention to the news. This is a guy that people look to for help with their health. He was also praising RFK Jr. I was quietly swearing behind my mask, as I looked for something, and then just walked away, because I was ready to launch. 1 7 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/150441-chit-chat-the-feels/page/57/#findComment-8527027

This is what I came here to post: https://www.newsweek.com/donald-trump-plans-change-election-process-rules-checks-1996517 Donald Trump Announces Plan to Change Elections Quote President-elect Donald Trump has announced a sweeping plan to change the way U.S. elections are carried out. "We need to get things straightened out in this country, including elections," he said, after accepting the "Patriot of the Year" award at a Long Island event organized by Fox Nation on Thursday. Trump, 78, accepted the award, designed to resemble the American flag, after a live performance of Lee Greenwood's "God Bless the USA" – the president-elect's go-to entrance song. "We're gonna do things that have been really needed for a long time," he said. "And we are gonna look at elections. We want to have paper ballots, one day voting, voter ID, and proof of citizenship." He went on to denounce a recent law passed in California that prohibits local governments from requiring voters to present identification when casting their ballots at the polls. "In California they just passed a law that you're not even allowed to ask a voter for voter ID. Think of that. If you ask a voter for their voter ID, you've committed a crime. We're gonna get the whole country straightened out," he said. This comes after he asked his supporters to take advantage of early voting, also telling them that they wouldn't need to vote again, if he won. 1 3 5 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/150441-chit-chat-the-feels/page/57/#findComment-8527033

I don't post here much but I read here and I try and stay up with the nonsense that is news, but, on a very limited basis lately. I am not mnimizing what Trump says because I am not living with my head in the sand. Some of the things he says would be very difficult to do. Voting is run in the states. Yes, some red states might roll over, but I don't think it would just happen without a big huge fight. I don't think Governors and State legislators are just going to say "OK he wants us to give up power, so turn everything over". I think it will end being a huge deal and not easy if not impossible. Remember that his majority is slim, so half the country that voted might have some groups that mobilize on our behalf. I have heard Marc elias and others saying there is a strong opposition and groups have already lawyered up. What T plans or thinks he plans to do can get ugly and maybe some will be accomplished for a while and we are in for a rough ride and maybe some violence in the streets. https://ballotpedia.org/Who_runs_elections_in_the_United_States%3F_(2024) Also if anyone is interested, look into the book https://www.amazon.com/Highest-Law-Land-Unchecked-Threatens/dp/0593471318 This is where our problems are going start "at home", locally, in my opinion. this is what scares me more. 5 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/150441-chit-chat-the-feels/page/57/#findComment-8527106

I don't have all the details on this but my very politically knowledgeable friend has reassured me that thanks to the makeup of Congress during his coming term and the expectation that the House will flip in 2026, Trump is going to have even more trouble getting any of this stuff accomplished. I think you're right that he probably never intended any of that stuff to happen anyway. It just sounded good so he said whatever worked to get him elected. I think some of the promises have been grander and more impossible this time than before his first term because he knows he can't be elected again, so he doesn't care so much if he fails to make good on any promises. 3 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/150441-chit-chat-the-feels/page/57/#findComment-8527126

Life keeps getting more complicated and in spite of all the so-called "conveniences" we have our technology can be very time consuming. And of course people are increasingly wasting time on mind-numbing crap on the internet so they just don't have the time nor the patience to make a meal from scratch. I suspect that more younger people are unable to cook than ever and rely even more on such convenience and fast foods. I'm a home cook and my mind boggles at how much money people routinely spend on such foods and then cry poverty. But also I suspect that people like the woman above are putting a lot of that stuff on credit. At times like this I keep hearing on the news how credit card debt is going up. If people refuse to do without they will rack up more and more debt to keep their former standard of living. I just don't get how many people don't think about the consequences of that these days, though. Then they will cry poverty and call one of those credit counseling companies to try to get their debt erased. I am not a Republican but I do still believe in personal responsibility in things like this. 3 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/150441-chit-chat-the-feels/page/57/#findComment-8527135

I think he followed through on just enough of his promises for "show" purposes, like the repeal of Roe v. Wade and other equally bad for people/the planet changes, but the rest is largely fiction that his base somehow believes he's done. Like the wall. I've read that not that much of it actually went up when he was president but somehow that isn't what his base hears. I think some of his so-called "accomplishments" are fiction spread by Fox News and all the pro-Trump mouthpieces online. Nobody bothers to check facts. They are suspicious of facts and think they're all part of a vast left-wing conspiracy against Trump. Like Democrats have thousands of scientists and other professionals in their back pockets. It doesn't take much common sense to see through that kind of BS but somehow they want to believe him so much that they will buy that everything that doesn't compliment him is somehow a lie and a conspiracy against him. They would deny the nose on their face if they felt they had to to protect that belief. That's how much they think they stand to gain from him. bluegirl147 December 7 Share December 7 Zelensky is at Notre Dame too. Trump probably promised him our support and will end up fucking over him and Ukraine. I get that world leaders have to make friends with Trump but this just continues the normalization of him. He talks shit about our allies and here they are welcoming him back. He is going to outsource the governing to Musk and maybe Vance while he does a victory tour most likely. This will give him cover with his base. If they start doing things that cause outrage Tump will just say it wasn't him. He is not a buck stops with him kinda guy. 8 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/150441-chit-chat-the-feels/page/57/#findComment-8527326

Annber03 December 7 Share December 7 God, that photo of Obama sitting with Trump. You KNOW he's got to be spending the entire time thinking, "Really, America? Really? This is who you picked to follow me?" 8 3 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/150441-chit-chat-the-feels/page/57/#findComment-8527339

Spartan Girl December 7 Share December 7 (edited) I’m sorry but every time someone calls Trump “Richie Rich” I throw up a little in my mouth. Richie, dated character though may be, wasn’t an asshole. Hell, if anyone remembers the 1994 movie, they know that Richie’s parents gave their workers employees fair pay and decent working conditions, gave to countless charities, and (despite their ridiculous lifestyle) were pretty nice people. I remember when Richie Rich was a comic book. I loved Richie. Trump has never matured past spoiled rich kid. He should have been left to fail on his own but his father covered for him and bailed him out numerous times. He has had pretty much everything handed to him and has never appreciated any of it. He has no core beliefs other than how can I benefit from this. 13 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/150441-chit-chat-the-feels/page/57/#findComment-8527406

He can't wrap his mind around the concept of service but especially service where you are putting your life on the line for others. 11 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/150441-chit-chat-the-feels/page/57/#findComment-8527411

Because of how this guy was raised, the rest of us all have to deal with the fallout that comes with that. His shitty upbringing shouldn't be something the rest of us have to deal with the consequences of, and yet here we are. 12 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/150441-chit-chat-the-feels/page/57/#findComment-8527470

Part of me wishes that Gloria Glad (whether Nancy Cartwright in the H-B cartoon series or the forgettable actor who was Culkin's effective Smurfette) had been a co-lead. bluegirl147 December 8 Share December 8 And the gaslighting continues. Trump on Meet the Press saying he saved the ACA. That he could have killed it but didn't. Still has a concept of a plan. 1 14 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/150441-chit-chat-the-feels/page/57/#findComment-8527605
Popular Post Spartan Girl December 8 Popular Post Share December 8 (edited) I for one am not going to watch a single thing he’s on. No interviews, no inauguration, no state of the union, no speeches, no news stories, zip. Why should I when every single thing that comes out of his mouth is a lie? The media may have sane-washed him and capitulated, but I will not. The next time I willingly see his face on my screen again, it will be his obituary. I can't wrap my mind around the fact that some kid at one of the many private schools Trump was shuffled off to as a child and teenager, didn't take him out back and kick the ever loving shit out of him. There had to have been boys with much wealthier daddies. 10 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/150441-chit-chat-the-feels/page/57/#findComment-8527654

Blamed John McCain for voting against the repeal. Said if not for that he would have made it better. She brought up Trump's justice department going to SCOTUS to dismantle it and he said some word salad about that being legal stuff and not political stuff. After 12 yrs and he still hasn't showed us his plan. 6 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/150441-chit-chat-the-feels/page/57/#findComment-8527700

peacheslatour December 8 Share December 8 That's a fantastic video, it must have been made prior to CNN losing their minds. John McCain did a great thing for the American people that day. McCain used to be able to reign in Lindsey Graham's worst instincts. After he died Graham turned into a big ol' Trump knob gobbler. 12 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/150441-chit-chat-the-feels/page/57/#findComment-8527740

Both for the reasons you note and because I literally cannot stand to listen to that obnoxious voice anymore. I don't even think comparing it to nails on a chalkboard is fitting, it's worse than that. 3 hours ago, bluegirl147 said: Kristin Welker did but he kept lying. After 12 yrs and he still hasn't showed us his plan. Jesus, he is so full of shit. And still completely incapable of taking responsibility for anything he did the first go-round. It's all everyone else's fault something didn't go how he wanted. Never his, nope. 2 hours ago, Bastet said: That last-second thumbs down on "skinny repeal", and the various reactions, is one of my favorite government memories. All that money and potential airtime just completely wasted, which is fucking hilarious. So much for the party of fiscal responsibility, huh? 6 3 6 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/150441-chit-chat-the-feels/page/57/#findComment-8527839
