This episode focuses on the individual effects of working in the BAU. It feels like am watching a soap opera. More about personal struggles, less about making progress in the Gold Star case. UGH.

This should be the end of Dave’s annoying hallucinations, right? With Voit’s help (again) and Tara’s unwavering support, he has identified that North Star is the BAU itself. Is it a surprise that North Star isn’t a person? Nope.

Spoiler

I guess this is why we will be seeing Gideon’s wife in incoming episodes.

I know Jemily fandom appreciates the moment where Emily and JJ getting high together, reminiscing about their low moments, ex-colleagues and everything, but am not enjoying it at all. It’s a waste of time! The whole scenes, it’s like they’re being written by a Jemily fangirl. 🤦🏻‍♀️

So the “Teresa is in trouble” revelation is just about Sebastian (the money man) getting a revenge on Tyler for cloning his work phone? How is this significant in solving the Gold Star case?

Penelope continues to be insufferable. Tyler’s ex-girlfriend picking up the “vibe” between Tynelope and unashamedly tells Luke that he’s secretly in love with his co-worker. In love after one bad date? Really? The show is obviously using the Teresa character to intensify the awkwardness between Tynelope and Garvez. Why is this “ship” thing so important that it has to be mentioned in EVERY episodes? 😏

The show has really turned into a disaster!! The first few seasons were excellent! Creepy, suspenseful etc.  After Gideon left, it slowly started to crumble.  Once Morgan and Hotch left, the show definitely jumped the shark. Each season has been worse than the last!  This current one is all over the board…The Garcia subplot with 2 guys lusting over her is completely ridiculous!  The swearing, the bad “jokes” being peppered in, the hallucinations, the conspiracy theories, Voit helping with the case…it’s just all so horrible!!! I’m hate watching at this point and I’m so glad MGG was smart enough not to be a part of this total dumpster fire!!

Without question, the worst episode of this show I have ever seen.

When Voit shot singing Emily in the head, I was glad and thought can you do the Burger King guy next?

One of the founders of the BAU is driven to near madness because of VOIGT? Seriously?

He's a killer named after a basketball!

I don't get the whole 'north star' sub/plot.  so bau wrote a white paper (unpublished?) and unleashed a torrent of serial killers? how can the actors play this with a straight face?

Sounds like a Kirsten Vangsness vanity project. I mean, yeah, I'm sure Kirsten's a lovely lady in person and I don't think she's ugly, but I don't think anyone would think she's got "model-like good looks", plus she'll be 52 on July 7. It seems beyond ridiculous that she'd have two "supermodel" type guys (Tyler and Luke) who are head over heels for her, especially considering that one of the characters (Tyler) is likely considerably younger than she is.

More to the point, I'd have a hard time buying Luke would be attracted to Garcia just based on personality alone. He seems to be a chill guy who likes a chill girl- his ex, Lisa, fit that bill. He also doesn't seem to have any nerdy or tech interests at all.

About the only thing I'll give "Garvez" is that Luke and Garcia have chemistry together...but it's more "brother/sister" chemistry than romantic.

You know, we like to criticize male writers for writing themselves into unbelievable romances where drop-dead gorgeous women are head over heels into rather ugly men (in looks and in personality) so I think we've got to fault Criminal Minds for doing the same thing. Sure, Vangsness is not officially a decision maker on the show, but she's written episodes with Erica Messer (the showrunner) several times in the past so I'm sure she has Messer's ear more often that not.

Plus, CM's also shown they've given in to the "wokeness" with their over-abundance of male damsels in distress that do nothing except get butchered on screen, so it does not surprise me that CM also decided they wanted to do  a "ugly woman/hot lovers" storyline. Don't get me wrong- there's nothing wrong in principle with that storyline but CM decided, at random, that Tyler and Luke were going to be head over heels for Garcia without any buildup or nuance and that just reeks of a vanity job.

I still can't get over the fact that Kristen V directed and maybe wrote, but at least directed, the last show on regular TV and it was ALL ABOUT HER. I hated that show. Plus, they never explained why, starting with day 1, she hated Luke. That was just stupid. And, of course, for him to ask her out at the last show because they weren't working together. You're totally right, @Danielg342, she would not be the type for him at all.

But, back to this show. Thanks for the comments and I will be sure to skip this one. I am so confused about what is happening anyway, so I do appreciate your comments to help me make sense of it. Or not.

I'm surprised the BAU darkweb porn site isn't starring Penelope Garcia rather than JJ.   A plump 52-year-old nerd wearing nothing but cat-ears.   Irresistible.

I can't help feeling the BAU vanity is at an all time high. They have web-porn sites directed at them, they are the apparent source of a major serial killer spree... what next, they are the root cause of global warming?  They are a subset of an agency, how many people think about them day in and day out? sheez

That's still mystifying to me - can anyone here name one FBI officer? Let alone a whole team to target and go through all the trouble of putting up a site of AI porn on the freakin' dark web?

Haven't seen anything of this season, though I still plan to binge it if I can get a free week of Paramount.  What can I say, I'm a hopeless CM fan.

From the comments here and on FB, it sounds like the take-home message is not to mess with the format that won you so many loyal viewers over the years.  Focusing on a single case for a full (short) season allows time for filler material, but doesn't promote character growth; being 'gritty' (ie, smoking, cursing and getting high) is too reminiscent of middle school; piling on the 'enemies' of the BAU detracts from their primary identity as the nemesis of serial killers.

I used to be annoyed with MGG for not returning to the show, because I thought it indicated a lack of gratitude for how he achieved his following.  Now I think he's a genius.

I hope that they get renewed for another season, but that they read the feedback and change things up or back to stories that made sense.

It has been renewed.  Pretty sure I read that last week.  I expect this season's cliffhanger will be Voit appointed to lead the BAU.

WHY IS THIS SHOW SO FUCKING BORING!?

Can someone die already?!

I really hope next season is a new young profiler and we're back to travelling around solving serial killing cases with zero political "intrigue". The. End.

Rossi looks very old and feeble … because he is. The last few seasons have had him in peril and questioning his ability to do the job.  This is not to be critical of the actor.  Rossi is just unbelievable this season.

Prentiss is written closer to Wacky Jackie of the Connors than to the big bad undercover agent what she’s known to be.

AJ is barely in the episode.  And terribly bad when she is.

We are on season 17.  These characters are firmly established and loved.  Why have the writers and actors combined to trash this show?
