I never buy new any more. Its all Thriftbooks or little free libraries or Savers. And now 3 out of 5 go right back out once I've read them. I love books but I don't make a religion out of them.

I get books on my Kindle for $1.99 (Bookbub), but the local library will get you the books you want to read from area libraries if they don’t have it on the shelves. I love libraries and librarians.

Libraries are the best! I can borrow free e books without even leaving my home.

For some reason, I think James just doesn't want a kid with Tatta. Not because of the state of the world today, or any other  reason he admits to.

He's a coward. And he's afraid that if he and Tata have a kid, she won't pay enough attention to him. He doesn't want any competition.

I love the hour format. Now I can concentrate on less important things, like putting the towels in the dryer and getting things ready for tomorrow. Have to leave the house early and need to make it as easy as possible because my brain doesn’t really like to work before 10AM. Have a good week, everyone. Au revoir.

@sainte-chapelle Katherine by Anya Seton (based on the life of Katherine Swynford, third wife of John of Gaunt and the ancestress of the Tudor line) is a seminal book by which contemporary authors measure themselves. Alison Weir, for example. Brilliantly researched and uses primary sources. Philippa Gregory’s books are amusing but very very very loosely based on history.

@sainte-chapelleyears ago I read a book called "Child from the Sea" by Elizabeth Goudge, and I liked it a lot. About Lucy Walter, who was reportedly Charles II secret wife. And there's "Restoration" by Rose Tremain, more Stuart-y goodness.

I recently read "Hamnet" by Maggie O'Farrell and enjoyed it. Not my usual jam but it was good.

Good night, my lovely peeps! Have a wonderful week, don't run off and get married or anything. See some of you Friday for Fun with Felons! Love you all bunches!

Yay, this week's ep is so done-zo. Kinda tired of seeing Tatta cry, and Corona's jaw drop, again, at everyone in Iceland speaking Icelandic. I'm running off to watch folks bake weird looking, but probably yummy confections, for Halloween on Food Network.

Have a good week, and see you next time! ☮️❤️

So glad that Stapler is enumerating her needs. Who gives a shit about what Dempsey needs?

It’s always about Stapler. She is the center of the world.

Hola, my lovely snarky friends! I want you all to know that I can't lose you, so I am prepared to tell any lie I can think of to keep you. And cry a lot.

Has everyone had a good weekend? Everyone around here is sick! Houseguest was so sick last week, she's still recovering. She went to the doctor but she was ten minutes late and they refused to see her, even though she was clearly VERY sick. Coughing, feverish, weak. They callously told her to go to urgent care, which she did, and spent four hours there. Poor thing. They couldn't really pinpoint what it was--not covid, not flu, not pneumonia. So they gave her steroids and antibiotics and she is slowly mending. BUT it must be the week of shitty medical care at Casa Mostly, my husband came home from working in Maine for a week, feeling kinda flu-y but not terrible. But today he had fever and chills and felt wobbly. Goes to the doctor. NP sends him home to take a covid test! Told him that if it came back negative he could go back. Can you imagine?? Poor guy, took the test, came back negative, goes BACK to the doctor's office, they deign to see him but tell him nothing. No diagnosis, no prescription, no suggestions. He's sound asleep in front to the TV right now. I fervently hope I don't get sick because I will brook none of this nonsense.

Phew. OK, let's boogie!

Did you know that in Iceland, they have the audacity to conduct midwifery courses in their language??

And rather than learn the language of the country where she has supposedly chosen to live, she whines that she'll have to give up her lifelong dream of becoming a midwife. What a dilemma.

Ha, you know, over on Reddit a lot of people think Dempsey is kinda crappy for bugging Statler when it was clearly making things worse. I agree. Yeah, Statler is a pain, but Dempsey is no angel. They’re hugely incompatible.

I love this forum bc here we’re all “Stapler sucks” whereas other places feel sorry for her.

Statler is so full of shit. She spends 20 minutes telling Dempsey what she's doing wrong in not catering to her every whim, then reluctantly mutters that she's "willing to do the work". Fuck off Statler, you're just ladling the guilt on so fast poor Dempsey is drowning in it.

No, Shecky, you can't lose the TV exposure. THAT'S why you went back. You are both camera whores and must be on camera all the time.

What the hell is she wearing?
