Wait, what? Mary lives in Lawrence but applied to K State? KU is right there in Lawrence. In fact, it's weird that this show takes place in Lawrence and they have never once mentioned KU. Lawrence is mostly just KU and little else.

(Now maybe she couldn't afford KU and state schools are cheaper, but it's still weird to think she was on pins and needles not knowing if she'd be "accepted." They pretty much have to take you if you're a resident and can pay the tuition.)

So the Akrida are after Dean?  Maybe because he’s the one who figures out how to stop them?

The Mary/John story was convoluted and boring.  I much preferred seeing Lata dive into Roxy’s memories.  Poor Roxy.  I’m worried that the warehouse Carlos & Lata were at is a set up.  At least they didn’t go rushing in without a plan.

And as much as I love Millie, she’s bordering on Mary Sue with her ability to have a solution for everything mechanical or technological.  Fixing a car is completely different than wiring a phone or building.

But it's not hard to believe that someone interested in cars might also be interested in electrical and wiring stuff in general.  Dean was also good at security systems and building a Walkman EM meter and EMP bomb to wipe a computer as well as fixing cars.  So...Dean gets it from his Grandma.

I love Millie, and it does feel like Dean is most like her where it concerns his grandparents - at least in this universe. So I'm happy in that regard.

More and more I'm feeling like the Akrida are a stand-in for the angels in this timeline, especially with the confirmation that they've come and gone throughout the years. Or they could be standing in for the Knights of Hell, since it doesn't sound like the MoL were wiped out by Abaddon, as they were in the OG 'verse. Either way, I feel like the Akrida are taking the place for someone/something else that doesn't seem to exist in this timeline.

Carlos and Lata are turning into my favorite pair-up.

Yes! I actually love all the Dean/Millie parallels. She took what life handed her and carried on. Much like Dean.

I especially like them because there is no will they/won't they tension. They're good friends and just vibe really well together.

A lot of people (especially ones who say they don't watch the show) are upset about Mary's college application and the show implying it refers to Dean and not Sam. IMO, it parallels both Dean and Sam. She saw a way out of the hunting life by going to college, like Sam. Her possibly having it derailed because she chose to continue hunting, is like Dean. Whether Dean wanted to go to college or not, Dean stopped thinking about a future without hunting somewhere between his time at Sonny's and the end of After School Special. (He talks about it with Gordon in Bloodlust.)

That conversation John and Mary had after they finished burning and burying the bodies, seems very prophetic. She says she would not make a deal for a loved one, even the love of her life, because it would be selfish. Unless this is an AU, I guess she changes her mind.

That also parallels Dean, who was so angry at John for trading his life to save Dean, and then went and did the same to Sam.  Both of them called the act selfish, but Dean, while agreeing, said that he didn't care as long as Sam was alive.  Perspectives change when faced with reality.

OTOH, maybe that's a clue that this is the Apocalypse world, where Mary *didn't* save John and the boys were never born.

Those were my exact thoughts during the scene. This story takes place a few years or so before Dean goes back in time in " In the Beginning". Mary reiterates to Dean in ItB that she wants to get out of hunting and have a normal life. Yellow Eyes offered her that life along with bringing John back to her, so that may have been what "sealed the deal". (sorry, pun intended) But that too, would be a selfish reason. I guess what I'm trying to say is that perhaps Mary is selfish and driven when it comes to something she wants. She just doesn't realize it until given hard choices. As far as being an AU, someone mentioned here in a thread that TPTB said that this story is not an AU. If that is accurate, then yes, Mary changed her mind - perhaps for the reasons mentioned here.

I think all of this depends on the card flip in the last episode. It's hard to really figure out what is going on until then. Many of the complaints and confusion will be solved if the explanation is good enough. We have seen what happens when the main timeline is changed on the old show...the future just molds into the new reality. Right now, the future could have been changed by the Akrida, Dean or both. If it's an AU, it all ends with Chuck destroying it. Also, would be nice if they address that elephant. If it's the past, then Chuck should know what's going on and what is going to happen to him in the future. It would explain why everyone is fighting at Season 15 Sam and Dean levels if he was writing the story again. I would be interested in knowing if this is a chuckless world or not. I'm still hoping the big reveal will give a new perspective on the series as a whole. I can't really see revisiting these episodes otherwise.

I read that someone "in the know" said this series was only meant to go one season. Maybe with the possibility of setting up a reboot of Supernatural.

Heh.

It seems to me that everyone and anyone out there who's described as or claims to be "in the know", is rarely that.

This sounds more like fandom wishful thinking to me.

JMO, of course.

To keep it on topic...

I haven't been able to watch the episode yet. RL has been nuts, but I saw some scenes that left me pretty much stunned and speechless.

Tomorrow morning, for sure.

Can't wait!

This person I know for a fact wouldn't say it if it wasn't true.

Some of Robbie Thompson`d interviews would make no sense if this was conceptionalized as just a limited run series. And if that guy isn`t in the know, I don`t know who would be.

And if it was, it should have been announced and marketed to be a one-off Season from the jump. Keeping that hush makes no sense to me. You can always do more if something is successful and change plans.

The Akrida are proving to be a pretty insidious and intelligent baddie.

Loving that.

I watched last night and the gal who plays Roxy is yet another great addition to this cast. Bravo!

That story continues to intrigue me greatly-and adding Dean into the mix(and wonder of wonders, at the center of it, even with just that picture of him!), makes it even more clever and intriguing, AFAIC. Bravo again, writers!

And that ending.

Wow.

And having that MOL side story in there fleshed out things a little more, too, while reminding us , as per the mothership, that not all the MOLs had their heads screwed on right.

This one was a very tightly written episode, IMO, and I'm looking forward to the last three with even more and greater anticipation after watching it. 👏

I think Pedowitz knew the writing was on the wall before he even greenlit the series. He hooked up Jensen, Jared and Misha with three new shows to at least give them a shot to succeed. When the three pilots were filming, they probably knew they were one season shows, they just didn't know how quickly Pedowitz would be gone. The hope was 22 episodes, but it should have been pretty clear that 13 was it. Everyone wants more episodes and seasons, but they have been given enough time to tell a complete supernatural story with a beginning, middle and end. I think Jensen's main goal was to get something greenlit so he could fix Dean's ending and set up a place to play Dean whenever he got the itch. So, it's not a big stretch to interpret that as a one and done show.

I believe this is why everything feels so rushed. They should have known as soon as they started filming season 2 that further episodes past 13 were a long shot. So, they are running through their checklist. They showed Mary being a badass, they had John and Mary's first kiss, they all are going to save the world and mostly, they are going to fix Dean's ending. Unfortunately, that means there isn't enough time for other things that I was sure were slam dunks, particularly young Bobby and Rufus.

You mean filming episode 2? Because noone started on a Season 2.

If it does fix Dean's ending and just that, I already would consider it a big bonus. Though I remain iffy on a continuation/sequel to the mothership. The idea gives me more dread than anything after everything that happened with it.

Yeah, I meant the second episode of season 1. Pedowitz would have greenlit anything Jensen pitched at that point; he had nothing to lose. They have a close enough relationship that he would have told him what was about to happen. We are still ahead of the game, Dean has another world save under his belt.

It's still near impossible for this show to continue. The ratings have been tanking. Last week was below 300k. Over half the fans that watched the first episode have left and many of the ones that remain are having fits on twitter over a creature from Jewish folklore being killed in an oven. The only thing it has going for it is being in the top 10 on HBOMax but I don't see how that makes Zaslav money. I can't see any other streamers wanting the show since everyone from the original show is willing to do another. If Walker is cancelled, they would get much more out of a limited series with Sam and Dean, they just need to wait a little while.

If they have a licensing deal with a streamer they will probably keep it going. The CW kept the reboots of Charmed and Dynasty on for four seasons and the ratings for those shows were abysmal but they were licensed to Netflix. Seems like the CW's business model these days is farming out original content to other platforms.

The licensing money goes to the production studio, though. Back when the CW was owned by Warner and CBS respectively, that was no problem, using the CW as a content farm. Nexstar wouldn`t see a single dime of the licensing money with other streamers. That is why they are radically shifting their programming, they only make money via old-fashioned advertisement and live watching. That is a dying buisness model but alas.
