Not sure what happened, but the channel listing in my area, for episode 2 had the Sr. Julienne/Lillian storyline and "A surprising pregnancy for one of Dr. Turner's patients leads him to start a campaign to encourage men to use contraception."  There was nothing about this in the episode, even the parts that PBS cut!?!?!  I wonder if that will be in a future episode, or if it will just be cut out.  Anyone know?  Thank you.

Spoiler

The plotline about encouraging men to use contraception will indeed be part of a later episode.  I think it's episode 5.

Dr. Turner said the kind of breast cancer she had would not have responded to surgery.

I thought that was very weird and maybe a nod to the fact that they're in the 1960s and they might not know enough about it. But inflammatory breast cancer (which she obviously had) is VERY rare and also VERY aggressive, with a very low survival rate (iirc). So of course the breast is removed and fast, I imagine.

Anyway, they kind of turned it around a little towards the end by making it a visit to her family what made Lucille leave instead of something worse and I was glad for that, but man what a depressing story they were giving her up until that point.

That was shockingly abrupt and happened so early in the episode. Seems like they’re just hacking away at these now, sometimes resulting in non-appearances for main characters. It’s as if they aren’t even trying for continuity or flow of the story lines within an episode. As if it’s a collage of vignettes that we’re left to piece together.

I don't get the cute either because there are at least 10 minutes of advertisements after each episode.  I'd rather see the cut scenes.

I know we've never seen this on this show but I'd be okay with them recasting the Lucille character if it meant that Cyril could stay. It may not be successful but I wouldn't mind them trying.

They could use the old soap opera ploy of having the character be disfigured and going through plastic surgery.  (Just kidding.)
