I always enjoy Steve Carrell but I wish the show would have a moment of levity or something besides the unrelenting gloom. The only thing the viewers can care about is how the doctor will get free. It is really impossible to think a serial killer can respond to therapy although that may be how this ends.

Sam's mom continues to be horrible. "I almost called 911 last night." What stopped you? Your son was murdering someone in the basement while his chained up therapist watched. Then you're going to allow him to bury the body in the basement. I mean, what is it going to take? I feel like eventually he's going to murder his mother if the doctor can make him see that she's not that great and basically enabled his abuse by doing nothing to help him.

Feeling a little more humor in this episode -- yes, the very darkest kind of humor, but the whole spiel about talking to his dead therapist, and then Sam's mom being like, "Gosh golly you've got to get it together young man, I almost called 911!" in the same tone a mom might talk to her teenager about stealing the family car? When she herself knows full well she's not calling 911 because she'd probably get a life sentence what with aiding and abetting a serial killer for years. I got a good chuckle out of it. Plus Sam's whole "now I'm one of those guys who buries people in his basement, THANKS A LOT" bit. Can't lie, I was chuckling. I needed that after last week's unrelenting outing.

I really liked the imaginary psychiatrist friend sequences.  I knew there would be a twist, but I was sad when we learned that Alan's friend is now dead.  It would have been nice for Alan to have someone to talk to for real if/when he gets out of the basement.

I did not see the mad dash to write a note and stash it on Elias coming.  I did a quick rewatch of that online, here's what it says:

Sam Rest Insp.

Shosh Ez Dad loves you

He did not sign it

Personal pet peeve - were we supposed to be able to catch that the first time?  Does it really matter what the note said?  If not, then don't show the note.  If so, show it long enough so we could actually see/read it.

I loved how when Sam asked what was up, Alan responded "thank you for asking, I really appreciate it".  There are just so many ways they could have played that out, with Alan acting angry, or cry, or something.  But that was just perfect.

So, will Sam actually take the body somewhere it can be found?  Will he find the note?  Or will he do something like dump it in a lake where yes, the body is found, the note is found, but it is unreadable.
