That makes me think of how he used to make that one face all the time so much so that it became a running joke. I think it was called a "who farted" looking expression. Am I the only one remembering that?

I remember the TV show friends used to make fun of him...lol

The character Joey was auditioning as an actor and was using the who farted expression in his auditions...lol.

I may be remembering that too.  I know the face he made was joked about a lot in the early/mid 2000's on SON.

Just a reminder since it's coming up a few times in this thread: This is not a spoiler thread.  John passed away so it's fair to speculate how the show might deal with his passing.  Does he die?  Does he go on a cruise?

But there has been talk about who will and will not be at a possible funeral based on casting spoilers and those aren't allowed here. Posts that violate this spoiler rule will be removed.

Oh god was it ever. I think Drake has managed to avoid it for the last few years somehow. I haven't missed it.

Is the actress who plays Kim really ill? It would be good to see her again whenever they do Victor's funeral.

They'd better actually show one, John deserves that much...and resolve Philip's stupid story with a couple "yeah, sorry, I faked my death" scenes leading into it.

Kim, Philip and original recipe Vivian feel like must-have guests.

I always hated how the show trashed the Victor/Philip relationship because Philip was the only child that Victor got to raise from infancy to adulthood.  Victor already had a strain relationship with Bo why repeat it with Philip. It never made any sense to me and it was always out of character for Victor to have treated him like garbage.  Philip should have been the apple of his eye and his heir apparent.. The Victor/Philip relationship should have mirrored the one that he had with Justin.

The Victor/Isabella relationship was an interesting one.  She too like Bo rejected him as her father and kept him at arms length because she witnessed his despicable acts against the Brady family and Carly who was her best friend.  She had papa Shawn walk her down the aisle when she was going to marry John  because she said that Shawn treated like her like she was his daughter when she was with Rojohn and never stopped even after Roman came back. I always got a kick at the fact that Victor's biological children preferred Shawn over him. It was Karma...lol

Victor had his oldest children with  married women while being best friends with their husbands. It was why Shawn despised him and it was  also why Ernesto Toscano who raised Isabella believing that she was his daughter targeted Victor Bo Isabella because they were Kiriakis and he "killed" Hope because she was a Kiriakis through marriage.  Ernesto's revenge in the end did kill Isabella because his poisoning of her led to the cancer that took her life..

Wow. Great classic soap stuff!

Honestly, Aniston could get an entire episode of flashbacks and it still wouldn't do justice to his work. He was wonderful.

And here's how he began.

I just finished watching Monday's episode including JA/Victor's tribute. I'm shocked at how good it was. I felt myself teary-eyed at the end, and I wonder how the cast, crew, and Jennifer A. was able to get through such a beautiful tribute without breaking down in tears. I think I love that it really encapsulated Victor. His cruelty to others balanced with the immense amount of love he could also show and be shown. While it was nice to relive things I watched in real-time, I think the clips from the 80s(?) were my favorites. In particular, the Victor/Steve scene and the Victor/Justin scene.

I know they had a scene with the original Brady, but did they forget to add a scene with EM's Brady. I don't remember seeing him in a one-on-one with Victor. I saw him in a bigger group shot, but not in anything personal and intimate. I also don't remember seeing either Shawn in the tribute.

I also wish they could have had a scene with Lucas as I used to love their surrogate Father/Son relationship; although, I understand that hasn't been explored in more than a decade, so it probably wasn't seen as important.

Since our show is now streaming, I really think producers should have taken some time to prepare a JA tribute all on its own. Even if it was only 15-20 worth of clips, a separate tribute could have included everything this man deserved for all his years of dedication to the role of Victor K.

I howled at "OH MY GOD, MY EYESSSSSS!"

Must use the 'anyone order a hooker' line whenever company comes.

This had better not be it in terms of a memorial....we need a storyline with Maggie and including everyone at his funeral.

Godspeed, Mr. Aniston and thanks for the wonderful memories!

Poor SR. She's really been through it these last few years. Having to play Victor's widow now? Ugh. I'm kind of hoping they limit her screentime and choose not to allow Maggie to be tormented by losing Victor. I hate seeing that poor woman crying and getting upset.

Keep in mind, her "Maggie is responsible for the car crash" storyline apparently saw SR losing weight in real life from stress. It wasn't worth it. Such an underwritten storyline and yet, there she was letting it get in her head and trying to give it her all, seemingly at the cost of her well-being.

A funeral with Philip back? Definitely. Maggie sobbing for two weeks? Please no.

I hear what you're saying, but I think that when SR was doing the car crash storyline, she was also caring for her mother who had Alzheimers and was dying, and she was overwhelmed.  I remember reading an interview where she actually got ill from the stress of it all.  It's very tough, as we all know, when older people are the primary caregivers for those even older.

Like you, I want what's best for SR and I hope Show pays attention to her needs.

Maybe we read the same interview. I do remember her caring for her mother at the same time, but I feel like the wording of her statement was that the storyline was stressful for her, because Maggie was so on edge and thinking she'd killed a baby and a friend, etc, etc, and then was attempting suicide in jail (!!!) and everything.

But undoubtedly being a caregiver and showing up to work on Days? At their breakneck pace? Not an easy situation.

I'm assuming the show will do an even bigger tribute once they decide how they will end the character. Remember this is just what they put together to mark his last episode, a last episode that obviously wasn't planned.

On the other hand, they're six months out with filming.

Was John so ill following the filming of the Xmas episode that he was unavailable for even audio taping? It's weird that was his last episode if there were six months of his life still left. Were there really no other scenes with him filmed?

I'm not blaming him for anything - TIIC should have filmed exit scenes years ago - but Xmas was filmed in the summer and John passed at the end of the year. Did they do nothing more and just leave it at that random end point?

I get not wanting frail John to have to record final scenes as he is ill....but I don't get not planning ahead for this and leaving Salem without a real conclusion to Victor's storyline.

I hope they don't drag it out. The name-dropping feels in bad taste, IMO, but if they need a month to set up an exit storyline, then fine.

But I don't want him to be pretend "alive" indefinitely.

Stefano's convoluted exit was shameful.

Did we ever get a clear glimpse at the Kiriakis family tree? I know Deimos was a retcon, but at this point I don't know where Xander fits in either.

Xander and Justin are both the only sons of Victor's 2 brothers

Well, yesterday Victor's death was made official. And I have to say it definitely felt like a big part of DAYS went with him.

John's brilliant line deliveries brought such humor and pathos to the show. He's irreplaceable.

And Victor still had story left on the table, waiting to be resolved (Philip, Xander, Bo).

Who is going to give us the one-liners now?

😔

I really want Victor's death to be mostly a tribute to John Aniston's portrayal of him for all these many years, and a look back for as many of the characters/actors who interacted with him.

I definitely DON'T want his death used as some numbskull attempt to "replace" him with some unknown character, tied to him now only because of his death, in some attempt to "replace" the character.

It won't work and it shouldn't.  Victor Kiriakis was John Aniston's role and no new head of the family is needed or wanted.

They very misguidedly tried this on AMC after James Mitchell, who played Palmer Courtlandt for decades, died.  Show brought in a previously unheard of and never mentioned nephew Caleb Courtlandt, portrayed by Michael Nouri and it was a big fat, insulting dud.

There's still Julie.

I think Deimos could have succeeded Victor as the dastardly head of the family however they wrecked that. Now that family is lost. Then again so is every other family on this show except for Jarlena's.
