Joining the land of the living, Norris will join the cast of Ghost in a guest capacity as Sam’s (Rose McIver) dad, Frank. The father-daughter duo haven’t been close since Frank and Sam’s mom divorced when she was 10, so when Frank comes to visit with his newest girlfriend, Sam is not overly eager to see her dad. Playing it as cool as possible, Sam tries to hide her feelings of resentment but, when one of the ghosts pushes her to tell the truth, a reluctant Sam faces her father and pulls him in for an uncomfortable conversation

There were a LOT of good "Ghosts" teasers at SDCC, it sounds like. I like this casting and I'm excited to learn more about Sam's dad and her relationship with him.

I can't wait for Jay to see the ghosts I've wanted to that from the start of the show. I've also wanted to meet their families I hope Sam doesn't easily forgive her father for not being in her life it's one of my big pet peeves. I don't understand why Jay's mother wouldn't like Sam she's so nice. Now we know Sam is related to Hetty through her mother or her father would have inherited the mansion instead of her.

Executive producer Joe Wiseman’s 16-year-old daughter had been binge-watching “Breaking Bad” and suggested Norris to play Sam’s dad. “He’s playing this gruff, no-nonsense Dean Norris-type role,” Port said.

“Ghost” creators also revealed that the third episode of the new season will be Halloween-themed and heavily involve Patience. “A Puritan ghost will have a big effect on the house and might not be the biggest fan of Halloween,” Port said.

There’s also a one-hour Christmas special planned for the holiday season that will introduce Jay’s family. “There’s 19 of them, so it’s going to be a full house,” Ambudkar said. “I think it’ll be really stressful for Sam, actually. It’s going to be a major chance for Sam to prove herself to Jay’s family or more importantly for Jay’s family to accept the unconditional love they have for each other.”

The new season will also feature the opening of Jay’s restaurant, which prompting Ambudkar to joke that “Ghosts” is “going to become that incredibly funny comedy known as ‘The Bear.’ ”

A Halloween episode airing on Halloween is perfect. I'm glad there will be another Christmas episode I loved the first one. I feel bad for Sam it must be difficult for her to feel at home in Jay's large family. I hope the ghosts will help Sam if Jay's family is critical of her. It's nice to see the show follow through with plot goals. Sam and Jay wanted to open a B&B they did Jay wanted to open a restaurant now it will happen. I'm thrilled Jay will see the ghosts now Sam won't be the only one to help them when needed. We know Pete will be happy.

I'm assuming that's a one-off, and look forward to seeing how they explain it; if they could both see them going forward, the show would really lose something.

Finally.  Given how close Jay and his mom have been established as being, it's always been a bit odd we've only met Bela, especially with no indication the parents live in India or otherwise far away, but I was willing to wait.  Not much longer, though, so I'm glad this is happening.  Given the cultural differences and that perhaps somewhat freakishly close relationship between mother and son, it will be interesting to see how Sam does and does not slot into Jay's family, and her ongoing navigation of that, especially as too much of a people pleaser who might finally hit a limit.

I don't think the show would lose anything if Jay were able to see the ghosts. He's already met Sass and already knows all the ghost's names. The show would become a modern Bewitched. I hope Jay stands up to his mother for not being kind to Sam she's done nothing to deserve being excluded especially since her own mother is dead. I like Jay and I hate to think of him as a mama's boy instead of a good husband. Bela should also advocate for Sam since Sam has been good to her.

I disagree. The show works the way it is and some of the funniest moments are due to the fact that Jay cannot see them.

Yeah, I like the idea of Jay getting to have one-off moments on occasion where he gets to see and/or interact with the ghosts directly in some way, shape, or form, and I like the creative ways the show's allowed for that thus far, like with the dream stuff last season, or whenever he gets to see some of the younger ones via photos, or things of that sort. It does make for some interesting developments to his particular dynamic and relationship with them.

But I also like that Sam's power is so unique and significant, and that they still manage to keep that aspect a constant, too. I think that dynamic works for Sam and Jay and the ghosts in general.

With the variety of talents among the ghosts, it's too bad none of them is an an artist (and able to handle a pencil). Sam might try drawing pictures of some of the ghosts; maybe she would be really bad at it.

Yep, you do not fuck with a key dynamic of a successful show (which is why you shoot around an actor's pregnancy, for example).  Jay's reactions to the one side of the conversations between Sam and the ghosts he can hear, Sam lying to him that the ghosts agree with her, the ghosts having to use their powers to try to communicate with Jay when Sam isn't there while something important is happening, Jay being simultaneously supportive and jealous of the relationship Sam has with the ghosts, but also occasionally resentful, and Sam feeling supported but also fundamentally alone in the experience of seeing ghosts almost everywhere they go and constantly being hounded for favors by the ones in her home ... these are all foundations of the show's stories.

Maybe they could have something happen where Sam temporarily loses the power to see the ghosts, and the ability jumps into Jay (temporarily) until it goes back onto Sam. How they'd do it, I have no clue.

They could just do it for a day (or a week) and we'd get to see how each feel about their new skill/loss of seeing the ghosts.

They probably would be relieved to go back to the way it was..grass is always greener type of thing.

It could be that it's a racial/ethnic/cultural thing:  Sam just isn't the "nice Indian girl" his family always dreamed Jay would marry.  Though given that the show is a comedy and that's a seriously unpleasant issue, I don't know if the writers will want to go there.

I like this, too.  I agree that much of the comedic tension of the show lies in Jay's inability to see or hear the ghosts, but I've always thought it would be cool if he could get to know them a little better by temporarily (or momentarily) being able to interact with them.  That way, he gets to know them better but then has to go back to not being able to see them again.  It would bring him a little more into the circle--we've all talked about how excluded Jay is--but wouldn't go so far as to destroy the comedy.  I really, really want him--if only for two minutes--to be able to see and hear Pete, if no other ghost.  And it sure would make Pete happy!

I read an article on TV line with some more spoilers. Pete will be using his ghost power more often and we may see a ghost animal.

Now that Pete has the ability to leave the Woodstone premises, “he’s going to be out and about

I figured -- and that can be how Pete still misses out on Jay seeing him, if whatever happens that temporarily allows Jay to see the ghosts happens while Pete is off somewhere.  He'll come back right after things go back to normal and ask "So what'd I miss?"

Quote

he’s going to be coming into contact with a lot of ghosts, one of whom he is going to bring back to the mansion

I wonder if it will be another ghost with the same ghost power (there can't be only one ghost in the world with each power) or some other scenario they come up with for how ghosts are not bound to the property on which they died.  (Another poltergeist would be hard to explain, in terms of how Pete and the other ghost managed to get the living to whom the poltergeist is attached to the mansion.)

Quote

Plus, in a fun twist, “we’re going to meet an animal ghost for the first time,” Wiseman shares, while Port adds that this “very small animal” is “going to become sort of a ghost pet.”

Now that's a permanent cast addition I can get behind.

Awwwwwww, some absolutely lovely comments from the cast members who were interviewed, both about each other and the cast members who weren't at this event. I just love how supportive this group is of each other and how much they admire and apprecaite each other's skills, and how quick they are to praise each other.

All these spoilers for this upcoming season have me so excited, I can't wait. Is it October yet :p?

Can Ghosts fans expect to see any of the neighbors this season — the Farnsbys, or June and Ally — as well as Thor’s son Bjorn? –Nick
We will definitely see the Farnsbys and Bjorn this season (premiering Oct. 17), showrunners Joe Port and Joe Wiseman tell TVLine

I love this news. I'm sure the  Farnsbys will complain about Jay's restaurant. I like that the showrunners remember plots from past seasons instead of retconning them.

I noticed something! The Ghosts wear the clothes they died in. There was a whole episode about why Trevor isn't wearing pants! We see Alberta still in the party dress she wore when she was poisoned; Pete is still in his Scout uniform.

Why is Isaac in a dress military uniform? I doubt he died of dysentery wearing it. I agree it wouldn't be interesting to see him in a stained blanket. I just think they should give a whimsical explanation for it. Like, he died and was taken away and prepared for burial before the death certificate came down?

Have you seen the Christmas episode from season 2? That episode gives us the explanation for why Isaac is wearing his military uniform, and the reason is actually a really touching one.

Isaac was with the other ghosts, talking about his wife Beatrice, and mentioned a special nickname she had for him. This memory led Sasappis to recall the night Isaac died - he was in the medical tent, observing him, and he saw Beatrice arrive (he iddn't know she was Isaac's wife at the time, he thought she was a nurse). She  had Isaac's uniform with her, and she came over to his bedside, both to be by his side in his final moments and to dress him in his uniform so he could die with some dignity :).

Here's the scene in question - it's one of my favorite moments/flashbacks from the show thus far, it's just so sweet:

You're welcome :). Agreed on the acting, too - the way Brandon Scott Jones delivers Isaac's, "But...she knew. She had to have known..." line in particular always gets me. He really captures both Isaac's clear affection and fondness for Beatrice and his guilt over whether or not he made her happy. Flower's "You got it, Cricket." always makes me smile, too.

I also love how that scene says so much about Isaac and Beatrice's marriage in just that one flashback. Given how some of the other ghosts came from unhappy marriages when they were alive, the fact that Isaac's might've actually been one of the happier ones, even taking into account the fact he had to keep such a big part of himself secret, makes that storyline all the more poignant.

Ghosts

After dragging him into the dirt, Puritan ghost Patience (played by Mary Holland) “connects with, ironically, Isaac quite a bit,” co-showrunner Joe Port previews for TVLine. “She’s interested in being part of a group again, and she yearns for that kind of acceptance.” The new addition will play a heavy role in this year’s Halloween episode, even though she’s not a fan of the holiday, and the hourlong Christmas special will introduce Jay’s family, while Episode 2 brings in Dean Norris as Sam’s dad. Meanwhile, Jay — who will see the ghosts at some point — and Sam’s relationship “is going to be tested a little bit as they’re spread kind of thin with what will be two fledgling businesses,” Port shares, adding that the couple will also be “dealing with a bit of success in business.” As for the ghosts, Isaac and Nigel have “some raw emotions and loose ends to tie up”; Flower and Thor are the “stable” couple!; Sas is getting a love interest; Pete is feeling “smug” and “confident” thanks to his power; Trevor is “trying to take care of some unfinished business”; and Hetty and Alberta are “taking Sam under their wing and helping her with a couple big goals,” co-showrunner Joe Wiseman says.

BONUS SPOILER!: Viewers will see more of Sas’ power, which allows him to enter dreams. “He and Jay are going to have some adventures this season,” Port teases.

RETURN DATE: Thursday, Oct. 17, at 8:30/7:30c (CBS) — V.G.

I can't wait for the episode with Sam's dad. The writers have created back stories it's time for them to the same thing for Sam and Jay.  I think it's great that each ghost gets their own plot no wonder the cast is happy to come to work.
