Wow.  I never suspected this stuff had this many fans.  This block of anime really eats into my cartoon-watching sleepless nights.  I wish they would move it to a different time frame.

The Toonami shows tend to have a lot more adult content now (gore, language, violence, fanservice) than Cartoon Network's usual fare, so there's little chance of it getting moved to an earlier time.

With the completion of Samurai Champloo last Saturday, I'm wondering: what "old school" anime should Toonami bring back, even if it's in the last slot of the night? Off the top of my head, I'm thinking Soul Eater, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Fullmetal Alchemist, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, and/or Death Note. Recently, I found out there's going to be an American live-action adaptation for the last one, with the protagonist's name being "Light Turner." We have to be reminded how good the anime was . . . the cuffs, the cat-and-also-cat action, Misa being worthless, Matsuda being even more worthless, Mikami putting the "l33t" in "delete," and Light's ability to make eating chips dramatic. Good times.

Dunno about Death Note. All the time the characters spent thinking really hard got dull after a while. I wouldn't mind seeing Trinity Blood again.

Actually, I'd rather they show something that they haven't run before, even if it's an older show.

I see that there's a new series of Berserk out now.  I would not complain if Toonami picked it up at some point. Assuming that the visuals aren't as muddy as the series from 10 years ago, that is.

Heard we got only two more episodes of One-Punch Man, though a second season is in the works. In the meantime, what would fill the 12:30 slot? Oh, and the Toonami block starts at midnight once again.

ETA: Didn't see the post on Jojo's Bizarre Adventures. Will that be the one? Also, if anybody has been following Parasyte at the tail end of the block, Toonami will be burning off the final three episodes tonight.

If they emoted any more they'd blow out my TV speakers.

I will not be at all surprised if the girl ends up tied to the railroad tracks at some point.

I think going over the top is the point . . . though with Kill la Kill, that was based on mythology and other intellectual stuff. I hope the powers stuff kicks in soon.

ETA: Does the kanji represent sound effects?

I figure that I'll wait one more week to request a forum for Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, unless somebody beats me to it. The only thread title I can think of is "FAQ: Mask Us Anything!" For anybody who watched it subbed . . . are the voices heavy with British accents? I swear, it's like watching Bakura on Yu-Gi-Oh! And with Jonny Yong Bosch, I keep expecting Jojo to unleash his Bankai on Dio. I know, JYB is on Iron-Blooded Orphans as well, but that's where my mind goes.

This is so whacked I have no idea where it's going. Except over the top. Haven't looked up anything about the series but I have seen a snippet of one of the characters doing indecent things to a gumball.

Next week is an IBO marathon that I won't be watching. I have tried and tried to like the Gundams but I just can't. Ugh. I have officially given up on the whole franchise.

Link to comment

IBO isn't too bad. As usual, there are too many characters, and it isn't as balls-out insane like G-Gundam, but it's decent. And I'd like somebody to splice footage from Wrigley Field to Man With A Mission's "Raise Your Flag."

Link to comment

The promo for the IBO marathon this Saturday says "There's nothing scarier than a giant Mobile Suit packed with high-powered artillery." I'd like to see how Tom handles being audited by the IRS before buying into that claim...

Link to comment

I don't think the IRS can reach Ghost Planet, or whatever that place is called. And lots of stuff on Toonami is scarier than Gundams. Like the overacting on Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. Or the overreacting on One Piece.

Reminder that Toonami will be back tomorrow night, and there will be a special at the end of the block thanks to Daylight Savings.

ETA: Children Who Chase Lost Voices is two-and-a-half hours long. Just sayin', you might need the DVR on that.

Robert E. O. Speedwagon? R. E. O. Speedwagon?! Yeah, he just told Jojo "I'll follow you", and he's planning on riding the storm out because he just can't stop this feeling anymore, and he's just gonna roll with the changes if Jojo plans to keep the fire burnin'. Next week I expect that he'll introduce his friends 38 Special and Styx.

I hate time changes when it comes to recording things. The stupid DVR only recorded the first two minutes then it apparently got very confused and gave up.

Children Who Chase Lost Voices was very, very pretty. Lots of scenery porn. The story seemed rushed, with gaps which imply that some of the story was left on a cutting-room floor somewhere. Some unanswered (or poorly answered) questions, like:

  • How did Asuna get past the Archangel guys on the way out? Does she have to dodge them for the rest of her life?
  • Why was the "bear creature" wandering around in the regular world?
  • Asuna got the crystal from her father...how did he get it? Was he an Agarthan? Is she half-Agarthan?
  • The mute girl was half "topsider". Who was her "topside" parent?
  • Why do they need multiple guardians for a magical gate that can't be passed by any means without the correct crystal?
  • Why did breaking the crystal stop the "resurrection" when it was already a fragment of a broken crystal? Wouldn't the smaller fragments work too?
  • Why did the teacher dude stay in Agartha?
  • What did Asuna's mother think about her kid disappearing for who-knows-how-many days or weeks? And at the same time as the disappearance of the teacher? Or about her connection to the dead guy Shin, for that matter?

Let's see; the ceiling looks a bit tall, so assume 15' per floor. 20 floors would be 300 feet. It would take about 8 seconds to plummet to that fiery death, and he'd hit at about 170 mph.

Boy, that physics degree is really paying off now!

Guys named Dio are always bad news; Jojo's, Casshern Sins, Last Exile...

At least Cell tried to make a contest of it when he faced the good guys. So far Dio just tries to be sneaky, then throws minions at Jojo and runs away.

Oh, I can, easily.  And in just 5 words:

"3.  2.  1.  Let's Jam."

Shhhhhhhhhiiiiit. And I call myself an otaku, albeit a casual one. Maybe they didn't count the "Midnight Run" block with Toonami? That's all I got. Personally, I was miffed One Piece got snubbed. I know the 4Kids dub was part of the Saturday evening (pre-midnight) Toonami back in the day, but AS brought in the Funimation version two years ago, and that is far superior. We didn't start from the beginning, but I feel it's one of the best anime I've seen.

As do I, my friend.  If I were a bigger otaku, I could have made the argument in just one word: "...Bang."

Perhaps.  It does look like most of the list came from the original Toonami block, and not the currently airing revival.  And very little from the Midnight Run.

Perhaps somebody can do a list of adult-inclined anime on CN, as opposed to looking up "Toonami"on Wikipedia. WTF is Fullmetal Alchemist? We had two version of that, and both delivered. I posted a comment: "Well, you didn't bring in HAMTARO. That's something, right? *sigh*"

I managed to enjoy GXP, but then again I never watched any of the others. Plus a lot of the enjoyment came from making fun of it.

I got a kick out of the fact that Seina had such bad luck that he was able to screw up a horse race just by walking past a radio that was covering the event.

Looked at the Tumblr site. One Punch Man is finished at the 3 a.m. slot. The replacement: Ghost In The Shell. Maybe I should DVR that, in case I want to see ScarJo in the big-screen version. That probably won't have happy and chatty Tachikomas, though.

Just curious if anybody has been watching GITS at 3 a.m. I think the dubbing comes off more goofy in 2017. And how does the Major (I can't remember her proper name) get away with dressing like that? Is it because she has an artificial body? The CGI credits are still dope, though. I also liked those from "S.A.C. 2nd GIG." Yes, I just looked up the title. Anyway . . . would you be interested in a forum for the show?

Is the anime supposed to be set in 2030, like Tom says in the bumps? I feel cheated. Where are the Tachikomas, dammit?!?

Well, according to the Toonami Twitter Feed, One Piece will be leaving the block, last episode will air on March 18.  One Piece will be replaced by Tokyo Ghoul.  Not sure how I feel about that. There was no reason given, so who knows what happened?  If anyone can pass along information, I would appreciate it.

Lantern 7, the Major's name is Motoko Kusanagi.  Every time I am stuck in a rush hour traffic jam, I wish I had a Tachikoma.  Although I will have no place to park it at work.

Fucking what?!? What the everloving fuck?!?? So we won't be getting the Sabody arc, which leads to Amazon Lily, Impel Down and Marineford. That is bullshit.

I tried to get into Tokyo Ghoul, but I'm not rushing to borrow volumes from the library like I do with One Piece, One-Punch Man and Assassination Classroom.

Yeah, that is what I said.  Still have not found a reason.  Only thing I could think of is that it got too expensive for Toonami to keep on.  I tweeted a question asking for more details to the guy who said he runs Toonami. No reply.  Nothing on Anime News Network either.  I am more than a bit annoyed.  I am not happy at all.

I know next to nothing about Tokyo Ghoul except that it's a horror anime.  I will give it a chance though. I am not a horror fan usually, but I liked Parasyte and Hellsing Ultimate.

In brief: putz kid gets attacked by a monster, and he winds up with an organ or hers or two. Now his body has changed, and he has to try to balance both sides. He fails a lot. Also, most of the ghouls wear stylish masks.

Putz Kid sounds a little like Tsukune from Rosario + Vampire.

Not a month for "good" anime news. First the trailer for the live GitS movie looks and sounds like standard Hollywood crap, now One Piece gets booted.

I saw on IMDB that the antagonist for the GitS movie was named Kuze. Only in the trailers it looks like the Puppetmaster. I'm going to be that crazy fan in the theater that will scream "THE PUPPETMASTER IS NOT KUZE!! DIDN'T YOU WATCH ANY OF STAND ALONE COMPLEX OR SECOND GIG???" Methinks that Hollywood believes that anime fans are stupid.  Like a bunch of basement dwelling nerds with no social skills or intellect.  I am going to see it, but I have a feeling that I will have the same attitude towards it that I had for The Last Airbender. Which is to say wanting to find everyone responsible for the script and giving them a good uppercut on the jaw.  Honestly, everyone involved if the truth be told.

So is there a non-pirate, legal website to watch One Piece? (Yes, pun was intended).
