SNL Season 47 Speculation

  • Start Topic

Recommended Posts

I'd like to see Steve Martin and Martin Short co-host with Selena Gomez as MG/cameo-er.  The three have a show called "Only Murders in the Building" debuting in a couple weeks.

First four shows apparently October 2, 9, 16, 23.

Some host speculation based on fall/early winter movie releases (assuming things aren't pushed back again with delta):

  • Daniel Craig: as the last host before production shut down in March 2020 (and promoting a movie that was no longer on the docket by the time his episode taped), I think it would be fun if he came back to bookend things now that No Time To Die is finally seeing the light of day
  • Woody Harrelson: the show seems to like him, and he has the Venom sequel
  • Jamie Lee Curtis: this is more a hope than an actual prediction, but God it would be so fun, and she hasn't hosted since 1984
  • Matt Damon/Ben Affleck/Adam Driver: they're all in that medieval times movie I'm blanking on the name of now, and the show likes all of them. Would be shocked it's not one of the 3. Adam Driver's also in House of Gucci.
  • Timothee Chalamet or Zendaya: for Dune
  • Somebody from Eternals is also likely, and I'll put money on Salma Hayek, who is also in House of Gucci
  • And to round out the House of Gucci possibilities, let's throw Lady Gaga in as well

I also don't know how likely this is, but I would love for Jean Smart to host. She's really having a career moment with Hacks and Mare of Easttown. Plus she's genuinely hilarious. I saw where she said on a talkshow that Kate sent her the "Murdur Durdur" parody of MoE. So she is obviously on good terms with the show or at least Kate.  And they could do another Designing Women sketch with her.

For returning vets, I could see Sudeikis coming back to host with Ted Lasso doing so well and likely to win a slew of  Emmys.

I know they wanted that Bo Burnham guy last season, so that's someone else to watch out for this year. I still need to watch his Netflix special.

Dear god in heaven, I want this to happen even more than Jamie Lee Curtis. If you could get Yahya Abdul-Mateen to show up as a guest for that episode, I would really not be upset with you. At all. Amen, signed saoirse.

The Stranger Things casts. I would love Winona Ryder to host and possibly Millie Bobby Brown.

Jacob Tremblay would probably happen since he has a lot of projects, specifically The Toxic Avenger remake and live action The Little Mermaid, though the main actor Peter Dinklage would definitely host.

Mellisa McCartney will probably host since she is playing a Disney villain, hence The Little Mermaid.

What shocked me is that they never get one of Ryan Murphy's cast alumni from American Horror. You think they would have gotten one, but no! Not one actor there. I mean, they made fun of Stranger Things! So many missed opportunities...

I would say this would be the first time someone's hosted twice to promote the same movie, but I guess you could argue Kristen Wiig did the same thing if you count her "hosting" the at-home Mother's Day episode in S45 and then the Christmas episode last year.

Maybe they could have someone else from No Time to Die host, like Rami Malek or Ana De Armas.

It would be interesting to see Malek do comedy.

Kit Harrington did a surprisingly great job in his first time hosting, I could see him returning as well.  Or maybe Kumail as the more obvious pick as the actual comedian in the cast.

Sudeikis seems like almost a lock.  Former cast member starring in a newly-beloved hit show, he might even get the premiere.

We should be hearing some cast and first hosts announcements very soon.  I wonder how many of the cast actually leave after Lorne's public big ask for everyone to stay through the 50th season. I found that very awkward to say the least.  With Chloe and Bowen having finished their two seasons of  "featured status" and now being elevated to the main cast, I would think they would want a couple of newbies for the featured spots. But there might not be a whole lot of room.

For the record, Pete Davidson was on The Tonight Show this week and did not promote the new season. My feeling watching him was he probably wasn't coming back, but who knows . He did say he thinks he will start filming the movie where he plays Joey Ramone in January.

I'd like to see him stay but he's not a key player and never expected to be.  No news on who's playing Dee Dee and Johnny?

Anyone interested should check out End of the Century and/or American Hardcore.

There's a rumor that Rami Malek is an October host. And I'm convinced that Sudeikis is hosting.

I also heard Ariana Grade, which really only makes sense to me if Pete isn't around anymore. Even then, I wonder how he might react to it.

Yeah, but he's got a big profile, though.

Still rooting for Jean.  She'd be fantastic, and we deserve it.

I would love to see Gemma Chan host. She would be promoting The Eternals. She’s great at both comedy and drama.

I would also like to see Daveed Diggs host because he’s really funny and he could also do some great musical parodies.

Daveed could Childish Gambino it and do double duty with his rap group clipping. They're awesome--their most recent album was one of my favorite releases from last year, bangers from start to finish.

Who is likely to host in November?

I would think someone from Eternals will, but who? Kumail Nanjiani? Salma Hayek? Gemma Chan? Richard Madden? There are multiple possibilities. (I totally forgot former host Kit Harrington.)

I also wonder (and hope) if Adele will be the musical guest again to promote her new album. Love the new single.

If Paul Rudd hosts to promote Ghostbusters: Afterlife, he'll join the 5-timers club. Might be reason enough for him to host.

I think Kelly Clarkson would be a fun host/MG, but maybe they'll save that for December. She just came out with a new Christmas album.

Just wondering, but - John Mulaney has a break in his tour November 8-16, and SNL will probably take a 2-week break after these 4 shows in a row.  Is it possible he's hosting the Nov 13th show?

I've wondered more than once if he's going to host this year or not. His life seems to be a constant rollercoaster, so I'm not expecting it until we hear otherwise.

I think you are on to something. There is a rumor that Paul Rudd and Silk Sonic will be a show before the year is over.

Paul Briganti was one of the film unit directors since 2016. Jasmine Pierce a writer since 2019. Anna Drezen a writer since 2016, and one of the head writers since last season. Drezen has a new show in the works elsewhere, but I wasn't expecting her to go midseason.
