S22.E02: Tristan

Not quite as entertaining as last week.   More tragedy porn then straight up dumpster fire.   The most interesting thing was the history of alcoholism and Tristan’s anger issues.   I was surprised that he acquiesced so quickly even with the violent paper rampage.   I was also surprised he stayed after he quickly decided he wanted to leave.

I'm currently bwtween houses (cold out old one and waiting for the new one to get finished being built). I'm staying at an AirBnB which is the basement of an older couple, it's nicer than that sounds. I sit down Monday night and get all settled to watch the new Intervention and all of a suddent the TV turns off because the couple upstairs is recording two things at one time and I cannot watch anything other than those two recordings. Can I watch this streaming somewhere? I think I have the A&E app on my fire stick, which I have to figure out how to get in their tv. This is going to be a frustrating 6 weeks, being at the mercy of someone else's television schedule and not having a DVR of my own.

He looked much older than 24.

No kidding. He looked like 40ish, another reminder how hard alcohol can be on your body.

I was surprised Tristan wasn’t sent to detox first, I thought that was standard procedure for alcoholics. The rehab guy telling him to get a good night’s sleep seemed really dense. Nobody sleeps well with withdrawal.

Oh, and the poo in the backyard? I could have done without seeing that. Thanks A&E!

I agree there was major trauma in the family history.  Both parents gone early and a brother paralyzed and then suicide.  Lots of alcohol involved
However, I could also definitely tell that Tristan was the youngest, and had been ‘spoiled’ as such by his mother. It appeared there was quite an age difference between the oldest and youngest siblings. I wonder if he’s now on a mood stabilizer too.

I think the professionals selected a very appropriate treatment facility for him.  The outdoor nature of it probably helped him decide ( daily) to stay.   I thought the stay overnight discussion  was just a way to get him to  stay for at least a few hours and calm down.  They probably have a detox area there.  Once they got him medicated then they could begin to discuss things rationally.

My goodness, this poor family. So much loss. Just heartbreaking.

Tristan’s violence was disturbing, but I don’t think he’s matured much beyond being a spoiled kid. Like his emotional growth just stopped when his mom died. And that whole family really needs to come to terms with the one brother’s suicide. The oldest sister broke my heart.

That backyard arrangement was something else. I don’t judge the sister, but I would have sort of insisted he use the bathroom indoors because otherwise... yard poop. 🤢

Gotta say I would love enjoying a nice grilled piece of pork and enjoying nature. 😁

The rehab director took the perfect approach with Tristan. He seems like a good dude, so I hope he keeps it up. Hopefully his family will really support him. There seemed to be a lot of love there, but an insane amount of trauma.

Wow, the interventionist and the rehab guy both showed nerves of steel dealing with Tristan. He had his fists clenched and was threatening to punch people and that would have been "game over" for me in trying to help him.

He looked SO much younger at the end.

Yes, I watch via the A&E app on my Fire TV. You just need to sign into the A&E app with a logon for Directv, Dish, etc.

I am baffled as to how the brother committed suicide. Paralyzed from the chest down, and shot himself? Could he have had use of his arms? Confusing to me.

I was going to watch this episode until they started off with the addict vomiting. Umm no. It’s always been difficult for me to watch alcoholics being profiled for this very reason. Sounds like it was the standard Intervention episode. So I didn’t miss much.

Hmm. Maybe as other men, they recognized he would never touch them and was never a threat.

When he complained about being fired (a woman at work) and was rude, mean, and physically intimidating, it was only with his sisters.

At the ACTUAL intervention, there was an even split between men and women in the room.

He intimidated all the women, tore the letters from their hands. His brother (?) had a full notebook but he didn't tear that from him.

Does rehab cure sexism?

Tristan had me going back and forth between pity and contempt. He went through more grief in his first 20 years than anyone should have to deal with in a lifetime. Then he was such a vicious, sexist little monster. When he was telling his sister (mom of Brave) that she didn’t do anything to show her love for him, I wanted to yell back: how are you showing love for HER? Who taught you that love just means women serving and caring for you without ever getting anything in return but a yard full of shit?

My brother had use of his arms but could not feel from his chest down. Hope this helps your confusion. You have no need to say anything further . Thanks!
