S13.E10: Snatch Game

Richard Simmons should have been way more active and emotional. Yes, he did used to run around like crazy but more than that he would always talk about how overweight he was and how exercise saved him and would start weeping along with whomever he was talking to when he listened to their struggles with weight. There was a lot more to be done there.

For Bob Ross... 'happy little accidents' 'happy little trees' talking about Alaska and the animals he would nurse back to health, use that soft soft voice and how everyone can use a friend, even a tree can use a friend and then, out of nowhere, 'beat the devil out of it' as that's what he says when he's cleaning his brushes. Utica turned Bob into some rando weirdo from Sheboygan who might very well be a serial killer.

Side note on the character thing- I'm glad BBC doesn't seem to have the same copyright issues, because someone did an impersonation of Kath ("Kath & Kim") that was amazing, and I don't remember it being labeled with the actor's name. We need to loosen up.

Same rules: Tayce was labelled as Jane Turner, creator of Kath. Also Ellie was labelled as Matt Lucas, even though she was doing Vicki Pollard.

If Ru literally said it was a copyright issue, that's odd given that satire/parody is allowed and specifically exempted. But it may have simply been they didn't want to deal with the hassle if the copyright holder decided to make a thing of it...even though said copyright holder should theoretically lose.

Anyway, even though I know why it happens, it still bugs me that it does happen. I get that it's not against the show's rules to do a fictional character (and call it by the actor's name for the above reasons) but I'd prefer the game if they were restricted to real people and held to it.

Utica's Bob Ross reminded me of Mariah's Joan Crawford. They both got their impressions so completely wrong that I wondered if they were doing some sort of anti-humor performance art.

I mean, come on - playing Joan Crawford and calmly saying, "It's not a wire hanger, it's a wooden hanger" without even slightly raising your voice? Playing Bob Ross like an angry, rapey southern pirate?

There had to be some sort of irony, right? But the way Utica talked about her performance makes me think she was genuinely trying to pay tribute to Bob Ross in a way that was also funny, which...I just can't.

Wow.  That was worse than one could have even imagined.  Frankly, I thought the top three were Symone, Rozay, and Gottmik, the third simply because the rest of the lot were all universally horrible.  When I heard Harriet Tubman, I thought, oh, no, please don't let snatch game go woke.  But Symone brought real wit to her portrayal.  A real risky choice that she pulled off wonderfully.  I got bored at the runway and turned it off, certain that Symone had it in the bag.

Rozay's choice worked because she played with the accent and references.  Gottmik was not witty or clever in the least, but at least had a consistent character.  I guess she continues to get propped up.  Yawn.  The entire rest of them all should have been in the bottom and at least two of them should have been eliminated for that disgrace.

The male choices were universally bad- and not proper subjects for snatch game unless you can do something truly great with them.  Kennedy's Little Richard stands out as the best snatch game performance IMO because she called out that LR was essentially a drag queen.  Her commentary on LR was incisive and hilarious.  That's how it's done.  Alexis's Mercado was also funny, but only because of the non sequiturs and accent.  The fact that so many of the contestants on this show cannot master this challenge is a damning commentary on their lack of wit and insight.  You don't have to do a great impersonation (I thought alaska's mae west was reductive and dull), but you do have to bring humor to it.  Yara Sofia is a classic example.  Her amy whinehouse was all wrong, but so right.

I see the iceberg coming one knot from starboard.

I thought Symone should've won Snatch Game, Harriet Tubman in Snatch Game could have gone so wrong but Symone made her funny!

I thought it was funny, but Another Period and Drunk History both did very hilarious versions of Harriet Tubman. Symone's version felt vaguely  reminiscent of those. Another Period's version was a branding expert who came up with the Underground Railroad name because white people love trains and sold a line of Tubman Man-Tubs (aka barrels) for people to go over Niagara Falls in. She was also certain that she was going to be on money. Drunk History's version was Harriet Tubman and the Bad Ass Bitches. I'm not saying Symone was inspired or influenced by either of these depictions, just that Symone's version felt a lot less funny and original to me because I was familiar with them. That said, I think there should have been a top 4 because Symone was more than just safe.

That snatch game was THE worst one, ever. Gottmik and Symone were the only two that I laughed at and I get why Gottmik won over Symone as her runway look was just a bit better imo.

It's an absolute travesty that ANYBODY should be sent packing while Kandy is still there!!

I'm not familiar with the celebrity Kandy chose but it kind of just seemed like she was being... Kandy.  I agreed with the bottom two and the sashay, though.

Why did everyone keep acting like Rue McClanahan and her character Blanche Devereaux were one and the same?  Why didn't Eliott just say she was portraying Blanche -- which was really what she was doing (or attempting to do)?  Was there some issue with saying the character's name?

My apologies - I thought I'd read the whole thread but just realized I didn't refresh.
