House Hunters International - General Discussion
judylo replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in House Hunters International
I kinda liked the Stirling, Scotland family. The guy was a bit of an ass, but the whole episode was funny and enjoyable. -
My sister adopted my niece from Ukraine in 2003. She’s 21 now and I love her. Anyway, my sister spent about a month there then and yes, had to pay bribes. It was then I learned that it was Ukraine (not the Ukraine, not when my dad was born there, because it was Poland then, but later), and KEEV.

I found both mother and daughter insufferable. But the daughter was worse. -
I think the two Emilys must be a couple. Otherwise, as many of you say, why buy a house together at that stage of their lives? And they had such different taste, but the little one ended up deferring to the overconfident one. Despite the separate bedrooms, I got a couple vibe.

The Stockholm couple ... yes, weird! I too wondered where they thought they would put the kid. The wife had lived in Stockholm at some point, I think they said. The episode was boring, so I deleted it and can’t check on my memory. But I think the wife had a Swedish-sounding name. Annika? And she was a photographer. The husband looked quite too big and out of shape to be a football coach. They were living on savings, they said. -

The Pennsylvania to Hague episode: NOBODY noticed that when they saw that first apartment, the one they chose, they had to crawl up the stairs? It was steep, no railing. They never mentioned that aspect as the episode went on. WTF??? Granted, I am old and don't like stairs, BUT ... how the hell would they transport anything?--groceries? furniture? themselves? -
Carole Radziwill: She's a Real Princess!
judylo replied to Lisin's topic in The Real Housewives Of New York City
OK, I am trying to keep an open mind. But I think that yes, Carole did had a heartfelt experience and she wanted to write about it. I am just not sure that she didn't have a lot of help writing it. I don't see anything in her that makes me think otherwise, but of course I could be wrong. (I am a fiction writer and an editor of nonfiction stuff, and don't have a lot of tolerance for people who say they're writers but can't actually write. Now, reporters are a different breed; they often are good reporters but not great writers. And vice versa. It's unusual to find someone who is a good reporter AND a good writer.) -
Carole Radziwill: She's a Real Princess!

I really should read "What Remains," then I would have a better idea. But so far, this is what I think: Carole was a television producer. NOT a writer. I took her side in the Aviva wars because at that time I thought Carole was a writer and I did not like Aviva. But now I think, for a number of reasons, that Carole may not have actually written the beautiful prose that so many love of "What Remains." In fact, I think she is a fraud. Yeah, yeah. I should read the book. But everything since then--she has no facility with language (not just with grammar), she is juvenile in many ways. ... well, never mind. If "What Remains" was beautifully written, as so many have said, I don't think it was Carole's writing. Eh, my opinion. I could be wrong. -

I must have missed something! What's the latest re Carole and the ghostwriter? Luann has proof? It has something to do with Kelly Bensimon?? -
I don't post a lot, but when I do, yeah, it's mostly what some might call Carole bashing. And yes, I like the posts that are critical of Carole. But I would like to say that what I don't like is Carole's persona on this show. Phony, wannabe hipster, nasty and annoying in general. But I might like her if I met her in person. I often revise my opinions of people in real life. I think I would have liked the Carole of 20 years ago, and I would be more willing to give her a pass if she weren't on this show and hadn't indulged in all sorts of crappy behavior. (which in my opinion, she HAS). And btw I am even older than she is, a New Yorker for almost 40 years, never married and with no kids and wish I had had them (kids, but also a compatible husband would have been nice). For whatever reason Carole did not have kids, nobody should call that into question. PS I have been known to date younger guys, so I do not fault Carole for that either!

When did Carole meet Adam? Last October? There is a pic of Nicole and Adam if you google Nicole Nadeau: Nicole Nadeau and Adam Kenworthy at the FRANKxDKNY After Party on September, 07 2014

Scoobie, I do not see the appeal of Adam at all. And I like to think that I appreciate male good looks! -

Watching this a bit late and without enough attention ... But Carole says "Adam and I"--ugh. I haven't read "What Remains" yet (hoping to find it as an ebook at my library in Brooklyn) but am increasingly wondering if she really did write that book. Her tweets are juvenile and illiterate. She was a TV producer ... not perhaps a writer. Plus, I really, really hate her cutesy persona. That is not what is really hip in NYC. She is an irritating, pretentious wannabe. -
Two things: I kinda hate Carole, but I liked her better tonight and empathized with her. Second (and I have to admit I wasn't always watching all that closely): There are so many things wrong with Ramona, but what is with Bethenney shaming her and saying she just wants to get laid? No, I think Ramona just wants to find someone else, not necessarily to just jump into bed with them. She has said as much. As a single woman of a certain age, pretty goodlooking and slim BUT 60, who would like to find love and realize that it may not ever happen--well, I think Bethenny is really crappy about this.

S07.E15: Don't Be All, Like, Uncool
judylo replied to zoeysmom's topic in The Real Housewives Of New York City
Rewatched tonight. I freely admit I do not like Heather or Carole, and this did not make me change my mind. Jeez, LuAnn was pretty blameless in all this. Ramona, yeah, she did not behave well. She IS sort of like Teflon. But why pile on LuAnn? LuAnn did nothing wrong, in my opinion. But those other harpies, Heather and Carole! Carole especially is a hypocrite, she of the free love and so on hippie crap. And Heather is a prissy controlling bitch! I am sorry I bought a Yummie tank, but mostly because it hurt! (And I am not fat.) -
Re Carole's grammatical error: The "between you and I" is pretty egregious for anyone who is literate. Yeah, not all writers are good at grammar. For the most part, such writers have some special knowledge and need editors to clean up their prose. Good writers are not so bad at all that. So is Carole a writer? Perhaps, but maybe a bad writer. I don't know anybody who says "between you and I." Yeah, I'm a copy editor and so I am more attuned to these things, but I am also a published fiction writer. "Between you and I" is just a screech on my ears. Sorry. (Also sorry that I have not yet mastered the quoting thing. I will learn.)
-
Well, I have pretty much disliked Carole from the get-go, though I did have some empathy with her in the Aviva thing (because I used to be a writer). But I really can't stand her now. And with this episode she is even more hateful. First of course she is a shit-stirrer. And then, even worse, she says: "Between Bethenny and I." C'mon Carole! You claim to be a writer and you make that big of a mistake?? I can accept it from the idiots from Orange County, but ... !

I am now rewatching and I gotta say, I do see a resemblance between Peter and Chris Noth! BUT I hate Carole and her SATC references. -
S07.E08: The Cavi-Art Of War
judylo replied to zoeysmom's topic in The Real Housewives Of New York City
Oh yeah, Heather was so disingenuous: "What's wrong with K-Mart?" Yeah, as if Yummie Tummie would be sold there. By the way, I did buy a YT tank top a year or so ago and was not impressed, and mad at myself for supporting Heather. I think she is a complete and utter bitch! -

That whole Carole election stuff was more bullshit. I really don't care for her. I did have some sympathy for her last season when I felt that she was being attacked unfairly by Aviva (I used to be a fiction writer), but yeah, this season she is just the complete ditz, and this wanting to be on her coop board and assembling political advisers? So much hate! -
The Millionaire Matchmaker - General Discussion
judylo replied to Meredith Quill's topic in The Millionaire Matchmaker
You know, I have watched this show for many seasons and hated Patti, but this particular episode really inflames me. She is such a horrible woman. What the eff is she about, shaming women for their ages and their bad romantic choices when she is pretty damn old herself and also has a bad romantic history? I don't think I can watch this anymore. And for Spencer's sister ... please! A pretty woman but I have no interest in seeing anybody in this family. And Scoobie, I love your posts and remember you from TWOP ... but this Kari woman doesn't look so bad to me. -
Heebiejeebie, I love you!

Neurochick, I get that you don't like Gina ... and I have my reservations. But yeah, I think she may well be 47.

S01.E08: No Show Or Go Show?
judylo replied to OnceSane's topic in The Real Housewives Of Melbourne [V]
Love all of your comments, though don't agree with all of them! Lydia gorgeous? No. Not at all. Her face is mushy and weird. And she is dumb and I hate her sexual innuendos. As for Gina, I wear a fair amount of makeup but nowhere near as much; still, I am getting used to her look! Kinda. Still too much with the fake tan, glitzy dresses and jewelry and matching shoes/purse. HATE Andrea for every reason you guys specified, still on the fence about Jackie--she is probably a good enough soul but yeah, too nouveau-riche and silly (supposedly she was a banker in her previous life, can't wrap my head around that). Janet is a couple years younger than I am but looks about 70 with that face. I don't even have HD TV but in the last episode or two I swear I could see the plastic surgery scars. Great bod though. Chyka: yes, the best of the bunch. Not gorgeous, maybe looks old for her age, maybe her hubby is gay, BUT ... she seems like a genuine, nice person with a great family. Much to be said for that! (Oh, and she is also, as you guys point out, probably richer than all of them put together.)
