Napped through most of the game, though that comes from getting up before 7 a.m. Missed Synderagaard getting a blister. I'm sure he'll be okay for his next start. Then again, he might get his hand amputated as soon as tomorrow. I was awake to see the Mets bust the game open in the seventh. Gsellman gave up two hits, but wound up sealing the shutout on a somewhat rare 1-3-4 double play with Freddie Freeman on third. I think the Mets' winning percentage on Opening Day is .750 since 1970. BTW, are there any comic book fans reading this? I see "Freddie Freeman," I think "Captain Marvel Jr." Please tell me I'm not the only one.

Watching pregame festivities on SNY. They're doing intros for the Braves. Huge ovations for R.A. and Bartolo. Anthony Recker got a warm reception as well. Is Roger McDowell no longer with the team? I don't keep up.

From the AVClub: new episode on April 21; eight-part "Elements" miniseries from April 24-27.

Lack of interest, lack of ratings, or both. I'm thinking "both." Seriously . . . Denver??

I'm up early because I'm trying to find work, and I'm looking for all sorts of help. Happily, I should make it back home for the pregame festivities at Citi Field. Even if Mets fans keep waiting for the other shoe to drop, hope is alive. Thor takes the mound, and the Daily News put Doc and Darryl on the front page after they made up.

I think of Rick as Chaotic Neutral at best. I never got into D&D, and I know lawful/chaotic and good/evil are separate axes, but that's what he feels like to me. He looks out for himself, and he regards everybody as morons because they are morons compared to him. And really, how much of Morty can anybody take? Funny to see a Rick without that hair. Aside from Doofus Rick and a few others, I mean.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure - General Discussion
Lantern7 replied to Meredith Quill's topic in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure
I think the insinuation is that Jonathan and Irina conceived a kid before the fateful voyage, which I had doubt at the beginning of the arc. In other news: if Strazio raised Lislis (not letting go of that nickname), does that mean that Joseph killed his grandfather, adopted or otherwise? -
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure - General Discussion

I don't hate her for that. She thought that she was getting a fair fight, especially since Wammu went out with some dignity. She did not fully grasp how sinister Kars could be. "You want me to try and beat you with honor, then face down Jojo for all the marbles after I dispatch you? Fuck that. I'm gonna take the McGuffin and become a god." And then he played her like an electric guitar. In 1936. After being trapped in a wall for millennia. Once again: the mangaka has lost more fucks than any of us could ever give. -
Overheard in New York: Random Atlanta Brave: Oh, wow! Madison Bumgarner him TWO home runs on Opening Day! He's the first pitcher to pull that! I wonder . . . has a pitcher ever hit three homers in a game? Bartolo Colon: Hold my Value Meal . . .

Quick question: should Cartoon Network/Adult Swim get any abuse for preempting Samurai Jack and Dragon Ball Super? I think that should be the case, because both programs were advertised going into Saturday. At no point did CN/as put in a disclaimer of "We Might Do Something 'Special' On April Fools' Day Beyond Midnight, So Keep On Your Toes." I like Rick and Morty, I get showing the same episode eight times in four hours, but six should have sufficed, especially since CN/as will be airing the episode from Sunday-Friday at 10 p.m.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure - General Discussion

We're . . . we're not even getting any semblance of reality, are we? I have to go to bed, so I'll be quick. Jojo thwarts Wammu's final attacks, and the Pillar Man dies with honor. Kars faces Lisa Lisa, seemingly gets owned . . . but it turns out he used a shadow clone. He makes quick work of LL, then grabs the Red Stone Of Asia, because that's all he wanted. Much like the two warriors Jonathan and Zappeli faced in the first volume, Kars has zero honor. He orders his minions to dogpile Jojo. And then . . . Von Stroheim returns. And he's backed by soldiers with ultraviolet lights. They're backed by Speedwagon. And Smokey's with him. Kars gets some monolouging in before sending Lisa Lisa to her doom. Jojo saves her, but leaves himself wide open. And then Smokey reveals to us that Lisa Lisa is Jojo's mother. How do you say "Sure. Why not?" in Japanese? If Jojo and Lisa Lisa live, Jojo will be punching himself in the dick a lot. -
Have you ever watched Courage the Cowardly Dog? He would not want that at all. Seriously, I think Chubby would owe him a small royalty. Changes for Sunday: Sealab 2021 and Harvey Birdman: Attorney-At-Law are out at the 8:30 slot, replaced by The Venture Bros. Your Pretty Face Is Going To Hell has new episodes at 11:30. After that: reruns of Mr.Pickles (second season, I think), Metalocalypse (final season before the musical finale?), Superjail (third season) and Supermansion (first season).

In case you're coming in late, Adult Swim upped their April Fools game. Instead of doing something fun after midnight, I tuned in expecting Dragon Ball Super. Instead, we got the first episode of the new season, which will kick off in the summer. As opposed to kicking Summer. With this show, you never know. If you missed the episode tonight, it will be airing this week at 10 p.m In short: Rick reveals his tragic origin story. Except he's full of shit, and he winds up turning the tables on the Federation. And the Council of Ricks. And he saves Summer and Morty, who went on a rescue mission by using the portal gun from their universe's original Rick. Massive carnage, shitloads of Ricks and Mortys die, and the Federation vacates Earth. Jerry is now out of a job. Beth basically promises him that Rick will never wreck things again. And then Rick comes back with the kids, and Beth is all "never leave again." One ultimatium from Jerry later, Rick is now the alpha of the house, and Jerry is moving out. And that was part of Rick's master plan, as helays it out in a semi-coherent spiel to Morty, a la the pilot. Damn, this was an intense surprise. Rick basically shows why he's the baddest motherfucker around, and he basically murders everybody in his way. Dunno if the Council of Ricks is officially dead. They showed up in a three-part arc in the comic, which had a neat twist to the dynamic. And Jerry is just so sad. He's below Morty, and Morty is a buttmonkey. He had two Ricks and Summer cursing him out at one point, and he wound up shooting "his" Rick. Which was part of Rick's plan. Oh, and one Rick was killing aliens with a hammer Morty, then used it as a shield. Seriously, watch this episode if you didn't already.

I think it's the same episode, running through to 11 or midnight. Catch it again if you miss it.

Okay. So Adult Swim stepped up the April Fools game, airing a new episode of Rick and Morty. According to the show's Twitter, it will air through midnight. I think they might mean until 11, but I thought y'all should know in case you were looking forward to seeing how Jack survived the massive fall. More evil: Rick Sanchez or Aku?

Apparently, Adult Swim will be running a new episode of Rick and Morty through midnight. At least that's what I found on Twitter. The 8 p.m. airing was preempted, and there's a chance we might have to wait a week for a "new" episodes of DBS. Just wanted to give a heads-up.

Saw a commercial. Second season of Attack on Titan starts on April 29. ETA: For anybody confused and/or not giving a crap about Rick and Morty: Adult Swim ran a new episode and repeated it through midnight. Then the Toonami block started, and Tom said that Samurai Jack and Dragon Ball Super will be back next week. Dragon Ball Z Kai is airing now, followed by Sand Whale and Me. Presumably, Jojo's Bizarre Adventures comes next, followed by the rest of the lineup. I'm thinking DVRs are going to be a little dinged up. With SWAM, I've been setting the end of the episode past five minutes.

Apparently, [AS] was saving the hardcore shit for this evening. Rick's origin!!! ETA: Spoke too soon. Still a kickass episode. ETA2: New season to air in the summer. Vague, but whatever. If anybody knows the episode title, I'd like to start a thread. And it's airing again. My guess: it'll run through to the Toonami block.
-
Indeed. I'd see how far they take it, but I had to go to bed a few hours ago. You know that episode where Morty knocks up a robot and produces a bizarre alien? Okay, now imagine if he did that with Courage the Cowardly Dog. Chubby would be the product. Ladies, I'm single!!

And this year's April Fools gag is . . . distorted voices, wacky music, laugh track. Yay??

From Funny115: Katie (Tina's daughter) has problems with balls. Bonus: picture of her at 13 during The Australian Outback. Best line: "Jeff knows that Katie is probably not going to survive this challenge, so he even provided a little cross where they could bury her body."

Thoughts on the season premiere from Reality Blurred. To my surprise, Andy liked it. I'm hoping he'll stick around, even if he's waiting for the flatline.

I'll have to rewatch, since I more or less gave up on the manga. Here's the gist: "Hi! I'm Keneki! I'm a student and a dork. My best friend is also a dork, but he's got an ego, especially about girls. Speaking of which, my bookish four-eyed dream girl seems to like me! Wish me luck!" "Well, I'm fucked. I forgot that there are humanoids in this series that dine on flesh. The manga didn't have the explicit gory intro, so I should have been watching it. What are the odds this girl was a ghoul?!? Only a miracle can save me now!" [cut to a white horse kicking construction material off the roof] "What's worse than death? Living a Japanese horror version of The Animal, a Rob Whatshisface movie so horrible, the original 'Survivor Sweetheart' went into hiding after playing the romantic female lead. I got ghoul parts, and now I can't eat anything without getting grossed out. Lucky for you, I'm not describing how bad it is. I really go whole hog on that in the manga. Also, I got a red eye. Like I struck a bargain with Ryuk. Things can't get any worse." "Had to open my fucking yap. Smelled something awesome, and it turned out to be a ghoul eating somebody. And now that guy got killed. And now that guy got owned by the co-star. Look like ghoul society has its own rules. But I'm not gonna nag to dine on flesh." "The girl just gave me a hand. Down my throat. Honestly? I'd take the parasite in my hand over this. Such is the life of the dorky anime protagonist."
