The whole thing has gotten ridiculous. Will the whole team that treats Dr. Spencer be quarantined too? And Joe suggested that the heroic health workers' employers should fit the bill and provide salary for them during their quarantine periods, what? Seriously? At the rate this is going, desperately needed help will just say no thank you. What in the hell are people thinking? Until this epidemic is brought under control in West Africa, this will go on for a very long time. If Joe squawks one more time about "we just don't know how it's transmitted" it should be a drinking game, perhaps watch the show after work instead of before. heh I'm praying for the baby awaiting Ebola test results, not that it would be a picnic, but hopefully it's malaria if it's not just a little gastro-virus. eta but she's the ninny that was begging for it on Friday. sigh.

I really wonder if it was a poke at Abby, and if we'll ever know.

Yes, there were plans to attack Iraq before 9/11, and they were all about OIL. 9/11 did indeed give them the green light to proceed. Go read the hegemonic screed of PNAC. Remember how we were told that the Iraqi invasion would pay for itself, because .... the OIL. Please watch the Maddow documentaries Hubris, and Why we Did It (or something like that). So the more we learn about the three attackers (Quebec, Ottawa and Queens) they all seem to have some small jihadist ties, but primarily were marginalized and known to be mentally off. Some lone wolves appear to be sane and planful (Nadal at Ft Hood) and others just seem to just go for suicide by cop with "jihad" as a tangential reason. I think this was the crux of the disagreement between Ro and Nicolle, in the end though, these disturbed people seem to be more of a threat - because they are more difficult to catch "planning" and prevent.

Oil only. I too have been remiss in expressing my sympathy for our Canadian friends on the board, I can't imagine how it must feel except for remembering our 9/11 and how vulnerable that made me feel for our country. It was a feeling of vulnerability though, not anger. And now, here in America, most coverage of the perpetrator has been buried under the new NYC Ebola patient, the Washington State school shootings (which tangentially reached me as I texted a bestie to make sure that it wasn't her son's school), the new White House fence jumper, they guy with the hatchet that went after police officers in Queens, the confirmation that the remains found were Hannah the missing VA student and a shooting in CA that left two officers dead. I think this, is where Tiegen's tweet came from, the timing was terribly inappropriate, but, she didn't deserve death threats about it. I don't have the answers to any of this. None of us wants to become inured to all the violence and troubles in our countries or in the world, but it seems like here in America the hits come daily, and sometimes in multiples. Finally, the intent of terror is to terrorize, killing anyone is collateral damage to that. It's a tactic, and I suppose one person's terror is not another's. Bin Laden meant to terrorize America into financial ruin, and he was far more successful than he ever thought he would be I believe. Trillions of dollars down the rat hole on two wars and a destroyed economy, civil liberties in ruins. You know what else is terror? When one's country gins up fear with threat levels to manipulate, whether it's Ebola or so called possible "planned terror attacks". With the advent of ISIL/Al Qaeda/al-Nusra tweaking mentally vulnerable people into doing the unthinkable I'm not sure if fighting them over there is as effective as helping the mentally vulnerable here - but how to suss that out is difficult. I think that is a large part of what Ro expresses.
-
Time and time again Ro has put her money where her heart and her mouth are, in support of Fisher house and many other charities that serve the families of both the fallen and the returning soldiers with injuries. This whole contention that she insinuated that the US Soldiers were terrorists misses her point, she wanted people to put themselves in the place of Iraqi civilians and consider what their perception was about the US Military invasion (Shock and Awe!). As in, to the Iraqis, it might very well be considered that the US Military were the terrorists.

I'm really glad that Annie Lennox had the opportunity to clean up the Beyonce/feminism remarks for her sake. I'm not and never have been and never will be a fan of Beyonce, but it's pretty clear that Annie was taken out of context. She's been bashed pretty hard over the remarks, and Annie is one of my all time favorites. It was pretty cute the way that even RosieP was starstruck by her. eta: Interestingly, the Washington Post just published the report about the treatment of Lewinsky immediately after the affair was leaked by Drudge, maybe? She has profound PTSD about the whole thing. I don't know, but I don't think that anyone that isn't close to her knows either. I'm not defending her poor choices, but Ken Starr and his minions were terrible to her.

I had a good chuckle about Ro's time-outs remark, troublemaker that she is. I refer to myself as a recovering Catholic, I think it's a pretty broadly used term.

I see it as a twofold win for Mika and Joe. Mika "has questions" about current protocol, the whole show she was "wondering" whether these returning heroes shouldn't be forced into a quarantine. This serves Joe because it stokes fear, once again, days away from an election and tries to force the question whether the Obama administration is handling Ebola properly. It was strange because in the "repeat" 30 minutes at the top of the third hour? Governor Cuomo appeared unexpectedly after which the announced appearance of Rep. Peter King (who was booked to discuss the Canadian Parliament shooting) occurred, and of course King called for stricter guidelines, quarantines and travel bans. I think the Braverman appearance prompted Cuomo to insist on having time, but I doubt we'll learn the truth. Clearly, this Dr is not in any way qualified to be commenting on the subject of Ebola from the get. Here's the Cuomo Clip, look at Mika's sour puss.
-
Here is the clip. Quite the despicable display of passive aggressive behavior by both Mika and Joe.

Who the hell is this hack Eric Braverman, nice job Mika and Joe, way to find the one asshole that disagrees with everything that the CDC has set out.

The difference between Maddow's coverage of the NY ebola patient and CNN's scaremongering (again) last night was breathtaking. Thank you Rachel! -
Dance Moms Spoilers: Abby is the Worst. Some More Again.

She looks like a mostly ballet trained dancer that rarely takes a hip hop class to me. -
There was some tension but in what I thought was a much more respectful back and forth, where Nicolle went out of her way to acknowledge Ro's opinion, as out of the mainstream as it may be. Ro with her heart on her sleeve again, but yeah, I'm not sure what her solution to ISIL is. To me though, ISIL is evil incarnate but I agree with Ro there is evil in many places and not just the Middle East. It wasn't as established when the show taped this morning that there was a connection between the shooter and jihadists, but those ties seem to be coming together as the day goes on. Perhaps Ro can find some saving grace in that for Monday. Problem is, it appears he's of the pattern, disillusioned, run ins with the law, drugs, converts to Islam and then gets radicalized (believe me I know, 2 from my kids' high school, how does that happen?). So it does in fact appear to be an act of terrorism.

@Cementhead - here is a bit of it. I'll keep looking around for more. There is a little more of it here.

Future Dance Stars, or Abused Pawns?: The Girls
NextIteration replied to Rhondinella's topic in Dance Moms
Maddie would definitely benefit from attending summer ballet intensives, though it's unlikely she'd get in with a scholarship - or get into most of the top ones. There are many on the next level that are very good though. I'm just not sure that Melissa/Maddie/Abby could bear her not being the big fish. I was disappointed to hear that Chloe did not use her Joffrey School scholarship from a couple years ago. -
Future Dance Stars, or Abused Pawns?: The Girls

Sounds a lot like my kids's middle and high school schedule, between school, assisting/demonstrating, dance classes, part-time jobs and volunteering. From the Spoilers thread @missbonnie: I only saw one of the videos, and nothing about it struck me as mean or spiteful. They were asked by their fans to imitate Jill and Kendall and I thought they captured a lot of what we see that goes on between Jill and Kendall on competition days - and to be honest, that sort of stress can happen for any mother and daughter at a competition - there are lots of girls that would rather get ready with someone else's mom because there is less tension involved. It reaches it's peak right around these girls ages (12) and then they just start getting ready on their own or help each other and kick the moms out of the dressing room for the most part. There are exceptions if a lot of quick changes come into play with elaborate hair and makeup changes along with the costumes. Of course since this is Dance Moms, they'll never get kicked out of the dressing room, that's where all the drama is. eta: Clip from the show of an example of mom/child drama/tension. -
I don't like the new look either, I liked the colors better previously and the more cozy feel of the set. When they were walking around on Monday though, I thought about Ro and bringing in Broadway production numbers, it seems cavernous enough to do that now, whereas I didn't see it before. We didn't get this weeks cast-offs from DWTS this week though so I didn't get a sense of it (which disappointed me because Allison is one of my favorite television dancers and she's been maligned this season since she's not a traditional ballroom dancer).

The only Dance Moms Spoilers are Here. -
Rats, I deleted it from the DVR. I thought she said mascara and then expounded on it being a figure of speech and not really the mascara. Perhaps, I'm deluded though. :)

This. See this is where I'm all on Ro's side for ignoring Clinton's ass as she told in her story yesterday - I was pissed, seriously pissed about his waving his damned sexy finger in our collective face with the "I did not have sexual relations with Ms Lewinsky". (This is TMI but the man's hands are just about his sexiest feature, imho). It took me years to be unpissed. I've never really forgiven him for the lie, or the shame he brought down on Hillary and Chelsea.
-
Do you have any links that prove that it's either Rove or the Tea Party or even the Koch Brothers, it isn't that I don't believe you - it's that I'm interested in reading up about it. It wouldn't surprise me on any level if it were true. Which is part of why I was sidelining my thoughts/opinions on the matter. If this turns out to be the case, I hope it all comes out and then Lewinsky is welcome to the all the vitriol she reaps because that is really a nasty thing to exploit.
-
That was a whole lot of post to dissect and process, but some of these highlights are where my unwillingness to completely let Monica off are formed. About keeping the dress, I think that was more about some stupid idolizing/romantic remembrance that Linda Tripp exploited. Of note, Vanity Fair is often on blast against Hillary and Bill, and the forum that Lewinsky spoke at the other day was Forbes (owned by none other than Steve Forbes), so there is some real validity to your points. The problem, or where I have mixed feelings is that I while I admire Hillary as a woman for all her accomplishments, I'm not that keen on her running for president - that said, I sure would like to see a woman as POTUS. A ball of conflicted feelings right there! I don't think that you can categorize an unwillingness to engage in slut shaming as having man or daddy issues, for me anyways, it's much more about being true to my feminist self. Gee, I said I was going to refrain from comment, oh well.
-
...never mind the bullying tactics that were used against Lewinsky by the prosecutors. I just can't develop a real keen opinion about Lewinsky one way or another; I do abhor the new round of slut shaming whatever her real intentions are with becoming public again. It's the height of irony that the minute she created her Twitter account, the slut shaming and bullying began anew. I'm curious as well about the notion that the internet didn't start until social media began, since originally didn't social media refer to itself as the internet v.2.0 of some such? Yikes... I'm getting old, remember Compuserv? And Usenet? Anybody? :P

Which left a pretty bad taste in my mouth. There were other things to focus on that separate Carrie's role on a television show from real life in the CIA.

See, this is where just listening and not watching makes me miss nuance a lot of the times. It was Maria Callendar pot pies? I would never buy those, they are just full of crap and high calorie to boot (and let's face it, thin Nicolle Wallace won't be eating them or feeding them to her child either). Well to be honest, I only ever ate pot pies as a kid and in my first pregnancy when I craved them, don't judge! I'm just fine with frozen vegetables though. Dr Oz, sigh, yup. The worst part of that is that there are some supplements that may be good for some folks for certain issues, but his credibility on the subject is shot. Kevin Trudeau is doing time for that crap. I wonder how much of this crap is foisted on them from the network to a point that they don't really have a choice about it, I was hoping with this production team we'd see better consistency between topics and pitches.
