  1. That would have been the last episode for me then. There has been too much Flynn this season already, so I'm glad he's gone, but I'm really not looking forward to Eve forgiving him once again. I was really happy about this episode because there was more team dynamic (which is what makes the show for me), the DOSA guy's jealousy of Eve was hilarious, the motivational moron wasn't the predictable villain, etc. I was starting to wonder why the show was called 'The Librarians' in plural when they seemed to have been pushed to the background in favour of Flynn. Or maybe that's just my perception because he's ticking me off every time he appears. Considering Miss Investigative Journalist spilled her guts to Jake about a minute after meeting him, showing her the library might not have been his smartest move. The character has potential though, so maybe they find a way to bring her back without her having endangered humanity by blabbing. I liked her.
  2. Grace's dad went to be with her mom. He also made sure Zoe went to the US embassy in the country she went to, where Grace's dad has a friend he asked to take care of her. He told Grace before they said their goodbyes.
  3. They could also take Harrison Ford as a carpenter. They'd just have to keep him away from the controls if he wanted to have a go at flying Salvation.
  4. I like cars, but that's an insane amount of cash to spend on one. My cheap one has four wheels as well and spends a lot less time in garages than most more expensive models I know. From a certain price on, I consider the purchase of a car either compensation for lacking something or unbecoming bragging. That part of the episode really didn't endear Randall to me very much. If someone told me 'I bought a 143k car because I felt like it' I would recommend trying to learn impulse control. In 1979, we're still about 15 years from the first criminal cases where DNA could be used, let alone for civil matters such as paternity. That scene was funny. Kate and Toby automatically correcting Kevin on the calorie count, the selfies and also the chemistry between the three of them. I can't stand sitcoms (the last one I considered even remotely funny was Corner Gas), so this cracked me up. Also, the director thinking every Ryan in the book would line up to get their man-boobs out for him was so delusional, the character is probably based on reality. The baby being played by triplets was a nice touch as well. I agree. Maybe those are family names and two of them just happen to start with the same letter. I think she said that because Randall is on the other side of the continent, so him not actually being there could also be something in the 'sucks' column, especially on their birthday. Plus their dad not being there on the shared birthday the year they turn the age he was when they were born probably doesn't help either. Also, during Randall's rather unhinged monologue to his biological father, didn't he say he just wanted to rub it in that he's leading a great life and then go back to his family who loves him. Considering the rant he was on, he surely would have blubbered something about excluding his siblings from said family if there was any bad blood. I wonder if Randall's father (Will?) calmly asking him if he wanted to come in and then Randall coming back after storming out and casually inviting him to meet his grandkids was just for comedic value or to show that some things are genetic. He did say they were going to walk out of this hospital with three babies and they did. It was probably an 'everything happens for a reason' situation for them, especially after the doctor's pep talk. Those onesies would have been the saddest thing in the world if there had only been two babies.
  5. I'm all for people on TV and in movies looking like a normal person, but Chloe looks artificially undead. It's such a bad make-up job that it's distracting from the dialogue. I had the same issue with Chris Evans in The Avengers where the weird metallic blue eyeliner that probably should have made him look wide-eyed and awake or his eyes whiter but irked me to the point of distraction, no matter how much I loved the movie. Yes, this is Tom Ellis singing. I wish I had the time to re-watch, it's been too long. In Spoiler tags for those who still have the series on their watchlists. At the end of the ep, the entire song (by Bear McCreary who is doing music for a lot of TV shows) is playing. It has become my favourite version which is quite a feat considering the writer/original artist and how many versions there are out there.
  6. They definitely knew what they were doing. As soon as All Along the Watchtower started, I thought 'here comes Mom'. Thanks to whoever suggested this for the geek-out moment of the day. Sparingly being the feature word. It's only her first ep and I'm already experiencing the first cases of being irked. It was good to see Dan having eaten a bit of humble pie and knowing he's only there to help, but then he just had to go and ask Chloe if she would prefer her daughter's father to be in jail. Newsflash, douche: you managed to screw up all by yourself and tried to take down your wife with you. When did you ever think about your daughter? I actually think if Dan was played by an actor not that well-liked and if it didn't have an impact on Trixie they would have to address that would take away from the main story, he would have gone down with Malcolm at the end of last season. Same here. I'm either staring at her eyebrows trying to apply the Pythagoras theorem or am appalled by her make-up. Couldn't they find someone who knows how to make her look like a normal human being over the summer? The rest of the cast aren't being made up like corpses, why her? Nah, I knew he was dead right off the bat in the movie and I don't get that from Chloe. But maybe my 'surprise-twist'-fu is off ;-)
  7. I can't remember how often I saw the movie in the 80s. I was probably way too young, but my grandmother watched everything with Yul Brynner in it every time it was on TV and I was as fascinated by Westworld as I was sick of The King and I. Having a series made out of the material is intriguing to say the least, I hope they didn't screw it up.
  8. That would mean stopping production and then not being able to catch up with the air dates though. I think they are shooting ep 3 at the moment, so when the first ep airs, a bunch of them are already in post production. It might be easier if it was a CGI-less show. Also, I'd be worried if they didn't have a season outline by now. I do agree about the worrying amount of regulars however. Maybe the showrunners should watch Nashville. The amount of characters in there might scare them off from adding any more characters.
  9. Joyce (and very briefly the stepmother) appeared in the ep their father fell ill and then died. It doesn't make sense for Morse to pay off Dr. Lorimer's debt though. They edited out this scene? Strange decision that might confuse a lot of viewers in case this is something that will be picked up in the next series. Lincoln is a few hours north of Oxford, so that would point to the family again.
  10. Joan's involvement with Jakes ended right there when he couldn't keep his hands to himself. IIRC Joan told Morse when he walked her home she thought going out with Jakes might be a good idea because her father couldn't oppose her seeing a copper but apparently there apparently were coppers and coppers. Strange has been ticking me off a lot lately. Get a hold of yourself, matey. Same ep as above, Thursday thought Joan had been at the club with Morse and asked her to treat her well instead of telling him to keep his hands off his daughter. Do we know he is? I've never read the books and didn't pay attention when my grandmother watched IM in the 80s, so I was wondering if he was gambling himself or if he was paying off his father's debt considering he apparently also sends money to his stepmother every month. His father told him to bet on a horse when he asked if there was anything he could do which sounds as if betting would have been an abosolute priority for him. It's been a while since I saw 3.01 (I'm in Europe), but if I am not mixing things up, when Morse got out of prison, he cut all ties and left. Didn't Monica tell Thursday she had a number she was only to use in emergencies and that Morse didn't want to be contacted/found? It's a pity though they didn't get back together when he returned, Monica was great.
  11. When Bright shot the tiger, I actually thought it was sad that the caretaker wasn't around to see it anymore. Shaun Evans really acted 'scared sh!tless' brilliantly. I really hate all those TV characters who don't seem to be effected by anything that is thrown their way. Bright's 'of course' when he lamented the tiger's demise and Thursday commented it was either the tiger or Morse wasn't very convincing, was it?
  12. Personally, I can't stand the old 'will they won't they', a twist wouldn't help either; we've seen way too many shows ruined by this and it's about time writers think of something original instead of just relying on this whenever there's a male lead and a female lead. Still hoping Lucifer won't go down this road, but definitely not holding my breath. Other than that, I couldn't care less about the reason for Chloe being 'special', she's still too poorly acted for me to care about her. The only reason I don't want her to check out what's going on in the afterlife is Trixie.
  13. You don't really need any chemical knowledge to build a bomb such as this. We could have done that around the age of 12, we actually learned that in school. Ah, the times when you learned stuff like that and no one thought of the possibility you'd use it to harm someone... I think that was to introduce Cuthbert and at the same time make it clear that he didn't come to England and it was all rainbows and unicorn from then on to build sympathy for his activism later in the episode. That really seemed random. The wire is again not unusual, there were still a lot of mines around back then, so getting that set-up would have been easy.
  14. Considering how freaked out Lucifer was about her escaping and adding the fact that she had apparently been detained in hell for quite some time, I doubt there's any love lost between them. I hope Lucifer and Amenadude can't get over whatever it is she did/does and don't see a hot blonde, but danger instead. I didn't think there was anything soccer mom about her in BSG. I seem to be in the minority here, but I liked her in what I've seen her in so far. We don't know in what direction the character is supposed to go, so I'm reserving judgement until I actually see her 'mom' going up against the brothers and hope for the best. Not just in regards to her as an actor, but also - or rather especially - in regards to how the character will be written.
  15. I always thought it was him trying to distance himself from his northern upbringing in some way because of the difficult relationship with his father. I was wondering if Shaun Evans' Liverpudlian accent sometimes breaking through was intentional when Morse was upset or knackered and got 'sloppy' or if it was a long day of shooting and it was Evans getting tired. I never watched Morse, so I didn't know where he was supposed to be from initially, but after 'Home', I think that it might be intentional. They are already shooting, so maybe around the same time as this year?
  16. Sounds disgusting, makes sense though. As for the types of diabetes: type 2 is usually aquired through a certain lifestyle (wrong diet, excess weight, genetic disposition) and in some cases can even be 'cured' with a change in lifestyle. Type 1 is an autoimmune illness you are usually born with that you can manage but not get rid of; it prevents the pancreas from producing insulin . The insulin issue is the same for both. Some people can do with pills (type 2 only afaik), some have to inject insulin (calculated via the current blood sugar level and planned meal), some need to wear a pump 24/7. I'm the only non-diabetic in my family, so I know a bit about this. I also can't count the number of times I had to step in doing first aid at the gym when the trainers thought the person lying on the ground was just drunk (pisses me off every time, hence my PSA in the other thread) and a co-worker has a key to my office and knows where I stash the honey for my tea in case he has an emergency (for instance when the nutcase cycles to work faster than Lance Armstrong without having had proper breakfast first or gets held up in a meeting). I think I need to pencil in a visit to Cambridge some time when I'm in London, what we've seen so far on the show looks rather lovely and somehow I've never made it there. Has anyone here ever been?
  17. You can eat ice cream and everything else you want to as a diabetic, you just have to manage your insulin - which can also mean needing something sweet as hypoglycemia is a risk as well. Especially type I diabetics usually know exactly what and when to eat, drink or not though. Fruit juices (apple juice in particular) can have more sugar than ice cream or other sweets and add up quickly though. Also, if you melt down two ice creams, you're probably at about two takes of a scene where Sidney has a tipple ;-) PS: If someone collapses, is shaking and smells as if they were drunk, check if they are diabetic. It might be a hpyo that gets mistaken for intoxication (seizures and involuntary violence due to flailing limbs might occur) until it's too late and they fall into a diabetic coma. End of public service announcement ;-)
  18. Hehe, true. I had forgotten about that. With Maggie Smith being preemptively scandalised in the background IIRC. I don't think they'd use apple juice with a diabetic considering the amount of 'whiskey' they drink in this show. Even if they don't do a lot of takes, that has to add up during a day of shooting.
  19. I'm not American, but not only was I brought up to say please and thank you whenever it was required, I was even still taught how to curtesy correctly in primary school. That was very antiquated even then and no one does it anymore, but that's why Laszlo, who would have been born around the same time as my curteseying grandmother in the last years of the Austro-Hungarian empire (by 1954 of course non-existant) not saying 'Could you please pass me my stick' or thanking Sidney when he did irked me a lot as that was definitely the custom around these parts. That's an interesting take on the scene. Considering how much Sidney beat himself up about his night with Gloria, he glossed over this way too quickly. It will be interesting to see how or if they address his excessive use of alcohol or if they just blame Gary's execution for Sidney going completely off the rails. Norton must have gotten fed up with all the tea or whatever they use as whiskey he had to down this series. BTW, I love how whenever he says 'I will remember you in my prayers' it sounds like a threat or the CoE version of '**** off'.
  20. Thanks, that's very interesting info. I never managed to get into Downton Abbey, so this is the first show I've watched where I was constantly asking myself if it would kill them to get out the words. However, there isn't much upper class in Grantchester, is there? Except for the Kendalls, Guy and the toffs at Cambridge. Mr Lawson seems to have been quite well to do and he actually managed to thank Sidney, but maybe that was the actor then or they did it on purpose for when the insurance fraud was brought to light (or because Anna was actually the wealthy one in the marriage).
  21. Sorry, I had to laugh about this. I'm not British but I'm over there quite a lot both on business and personal trips and usually get the life hugged out of me. I'm not a very touchy-feely person myself, but somehow I always end up being squeezed to death, having arms draped over my shoulder at events or colleagues from the London office resting their head on my shoulder during boring presentations. Could be my field of work though. I thought there might be a chance right up until he immedately turned away from her and to his newspaper again. I don't think he went as far as to hit her, but he definitely was ignoring her or rather treating her like a possession; he manhandled her at Jennifer's party (and in series 1 when he dragged her from Mr. Johnson's club when she said she wanted to be there for Jen), she didn't want to go back home after being caught shop-lifting and her expression when she sat in the car and Guy wanted a 'word' with Sidney seemed more scared than just miserable. She also didn't doubt Guy punching Sidney for a second when Geordie told her and I do think his anger scared her. Also, if anyone in this show has an evil eyebrow, it's Guy ;-) The ratings were higher than for series 1 actually and I vaguely remember seeing they were No 1 or 2 in that timeslot somewhere along the way Series 1: 6.95/5.81/5.62/5.91/5.63/5.75 Series 2: 7.67/7.11/6.90/6.34/6.10/6.26 I just hope they don't take the ratings as the viewers rooting for Amanda/Sidney. The bishop apparently gave Leonard the green light before he and Phil went to rip the archdeacon a new one. I guess he'd rather have him go away than bring even more shame to the church in the long run. I wouldn't be surprised if they had managed to keep his trial very quiet at the bishop's behest though. Agree about the barmaid, disagree about Margaret. She clearly showed she had no idea or interest in adapting which would be necessary if she wanted the relationship to last. So far, Hildegard seemed to be the only one who knew what a vicar is. I don't think Geordie should get off that easily. I'm way too invested in this show despite its shortcomings and the overabundance of irrational women. They actually make me care about the characters, damnit.
  22. I don't think Mrs M supports Sidney and Amanda as a couple, she just didn't want Amanda to be stuck in a loveless marriage. So, are Leonard and Phil going to become the second clergy/police duo in Cambridge now? Mrs M and Jack are adorable together. Did she wear make-up in this scene? I wasn't sure. that hug was played really well Same here. Her 'he's so angry' really fit with what we've seen of him so far. I was wondering about that. They have to know that he couldn't possibly stay on with the church and be with Amanda. There were funerals (were they all in S1?) and they are clearly working with children and teenagers. The only weddings so far fell through though (Isabelle's and Amanda's respectively). Do you really think back then anyone would have sided with Amanda instead of Guy? I rather suspect she would have been painted as hysterical, ungrateful floozy and he would have been the poor husband who got left despite putting a (large) roof over his wife's head. I don't know about England, but in Austria in the 1950s, Amanda wouldn't even have gotten custody of the child for being a woman and therefore not being able to properly provide for the child financially. I don't think the casting was that strategic. Wasn't he virtually unknown when he was first cast? He does have a first in theology from Cambridge however. That must have been intriguing for the producers and director. Green is brilliant as Geordie, he just seems to belong there. What is it with this show and people hardly ever saying 'please', 'thank you' or apologising? Sidney you oaf, how about apologising to the woman you practically tried to bend over the bar? Not remembering doesn't mean you don't need to say you're sorry before asking her what Harding tried to tell your shitfaced self.
  23. Nah, I also prefer shows that stay in my head for whatever reason to cozy ones I forget as soon as the episode is over. You are probably thinking about Guy immediately looking to Johnny when Amanda's ring got missing. The sad thing is that this was probably reality in the police force back then. I don't think his presence was not wanted. If he had just shut up after 'were at the prison, were you?' (IIRC), they would have been fine. Apparently he's not the 'agree to disagree' type even though Sidney asked him in an earlier ep to do just that. Amen! Daniel is a bit older than Leonard though and has already been married, right? I kind of get him not wanting to spend time falling for someone who is never going to be committed to him. That said, I get why Leonard is so hesitant, he's in even more of an impossible situation due to his profession and I am of course rooting for him. Gotta love this board. Where else do you find historical humour these days? A new co-worker couldn't cope with me knowing the date of the second Turkish siege of Vienna by heart. He would love you ;-)
  24. If that helps, I figured he was poisoned because of the stain the floor but didn't manage to connect the dead rats. 'Rat-Ex' cracked me up though, that's a very to the point brandname right there. I was wondering if they made Gary likable to make the viewers care more. There's a deleted scene Considering she looks like she's about to pop in the last ep, that might be too much for a lot of viewers.
