S10.E09: Squeeze
FierceCritter replied to nodorothyparker's topic in The Walking Dead Franchise Shows
I never used to read these threads until after I saw the episode. But my "don't care" about this show has reached a point I am even fine with spoilers. That said, I am so grateful I read these posts. I was pretty sick last night. I was going to catch-up and watch this episode. Based on what everyone said here, I did not. I'm pretty sure if I had, I'd have lost my supper at the Alpha/Neegan scene. Thank you. From the bottom of my stomach. -
I was married for 13 years. Very bad relationship in that he was a narcissist and possible sociopath, and I a clinically depressed empath with major caretaker issues. I completely lost my own identity in being the one keeping us afloat while he constantly leaped before looking. And he saw me for who I was and totally and completely depleted me of self, energy, autonomy. We divorced in 2013 after he left me for someone else. I was devastated. Not anymore. I'm in such a better place now. Thriving, happy, living for myself for the first time, ever. I can't ever conceive of living with someone again. With him, I couldn't even watch some TV shows that bothered him for one reason or another. Now I can watch what I want, eat the same thing for 5 days in a row if I want, do EVERYTHING to please myself and not someone else. I'm an extreme example, I know. I've seen plenty of great relationships. But I'm just so happy now, that at 51, i can't imagine having to do all the compromising that comes with a relationship. It's a great thing when both parties are on board. I'm not willing to risk trying. So yeah. Girlfriends, sisters, etc - wonderful. Marriage ever again? Highly, highly doubtful.

I've seen more than one person bemoan the way SPN ended up all in God's world after Castiel joined the show. I love Castiel, and (she's saying it again) hate what they writers have done to him over the years. What people have said just made me think of how much better it would have been if instead of ending up in Castiel's world after that point, they'd have just let it be Castiel ending up in the Winchester's world. Keep Castiel the badass, serious warrior angel he was when he first spread his wings in that barn. He could have even still been a regular, in some way always there but without ending up deus ex machina due to Divine origin. Play out the "God has plans for you" shtick in THAT season, and never bring up gee oh dee again for the most part. No more angel than they ever had demon (except Crowley - I never got enough of Crowley). Maybe in some way have Castiel still retain some angelic powers, but be cutoff from the Heavens, bemoaning his fate to walk the Earth, retaining his warrior badassery, but maybe just a small remainder of angelic powers such as healing and lesser teleportation. A new hunter joining the hunter ranks. Happy to help, not all "naked ape bah" resentful of being earthbound because that's been done to death. Save that for the occasional one-off bad angel showing up and Christopher Walken movies. Dump the "let's have Cas become goofy, learning how to assimilate human this and that-ery" and instead of having him become more human, let him remain somewhat disconnected. Have him be more "There they go doing human stuff again, thank you, next, can we move on to the monster at hand." That would have been SUCH a great dynamic. And still have fodder for Destiel shippers to boot. Geeze. Miss "doesn't really get into the what-ifs of TV shows" maybe should go back to lurker status and maybe try writing some fanfic.

I'm not nearly as critical of TV as a lot of people in these forums. But I absolutely hated this episode. I actually like meta stuff. A lot. But this was absurd beyond the point of being enjoyable. Completely negating the entire past episodes? WTF? Now I'M pissed.
-
That's EXACTLY what I instantly thought. And I've only seen a handful of Seinfeld episodes.
-
THIS. I said it before. I hoped they'd make Castiel a badass again like he was initially. I hate the way he's been written. And it just gets worse and worse.

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...
FierceCritter replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in The Mandalorian
Very good observations. And I agree - i felt pity toward him. He had so much heaped on him playing that character, more than I think he even realized. The scene where the Jedi Council are all basically saying no go toward Anakin going through Jedi training - I could just hear the director telling him, "Ok, now, after so-and-so says the line about you not being allowed to train, you need to put on a really grumpy face. Aaaaand - Action." I wonder if they even gave him coaching like, "Think about a time when someone said something mean about your mom, or beat up on your friend." -
S01.E08: Chapter Eight - Redemption

Loved every bit of what you said in your post. Great observations. I adored that book. RE: Mandalorian Pedro unmasked I admit, I was a little taken aback by how he looked when the mask came off. BUT - I best know him as Oberyn Martell from GOT. That's what I expected to see. But 1) He was laying down. When you're in that position, gravity pulls on your cheeks, jowls, etc just like it puts your boobs in your armpits. 2) He probably does have a bit more weight on him than he did then. He appeared a touch more full for the Wonder Woman role. 3) His facial hair was sculpted and flattering in GOT. I frequently see PP without that kind of grooming, as he is when the helmet comes off. And it does make him look a touch less sharp overall. 4) I think he probably weighed more than a bit less in GOT. I'd still be like a feral cat feeling the sudden and incredible pleasure of its first pet if he ever came within 5 feet of me. #Tingle -
A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...
FierceCritter replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in The Mandalorian
Let me start by saying that I am primarily a fan of the original trilogy. I saw ANH when I was 9 and my main investment is in those characters. Anything else I have had difficulty caring about, though I have given it an honest try. The Mandalorian is the exception. When I finished the season, I told friends I felt like I just watched my 4th favorite SW movie. And it has whetted my appetite for all things SW. I'm glad to see this new post on this subject here. Most other forums are already inhabited by super-fans that can be intimidating to the mostly occasional poster such as myself. I'll shortly be watching the animated series'. But started with a re-watch of the prequels to see if I feel any differently about them. So far almost through The Phantom Menace. Observations: 1) I still am confused at the entire thing, particularly how a trade embargo of one little planet is such a big deal and sets off such a huge political mess. 2) I find JarJar Binks even more irritating than I remembered. I hadn't remembered him being in so much of the film. Maybe I blocked it out of my memory in an attempt at self-care. 3) Jake Lloyd is worse than I remembered. 4) The Midichlorians thing - Why??!??! Just why??!??! 5) "Queen Amidala's" costume changes from one scene to the next - I thought after seeing the costumes up close at a museum exhibition last year, I'd be more impressed. Yes, they are works of art. But the constant change of costume in EVERY SCENE is now striking me as absurd and unnecessary costuming extravagance. 6) For lack of much good to say, the pod race was pretty good. And I much approve of both Qui Gon Jinn's character and Ewan McGregor as a young Obi Wan. Returning to finish this post now that I've finished watching. I've got nothing. It was so much more boring than I remembered. -
S01.E07: Chapter Seven - The Reckoning

I am re-watching the prequels (ugh). In "The Phantom Menace," the first C-3PO type droid that speaks has a female voice. -

I hadn't watched this episode yet when I saw ROS Friday night. As the credits rolled, I thought, "Well, good thing I have an episode of Mandalorian to watch." -

The exact same thought occurred to me. Sad I might be if normal he speaks. -
I forgot this was even back on until last week (isn't that sad). So I binge-watched all 8 episodes. I really, really, REALLY hoped that for the final season, Castiel would be written as being back to his original, badass self. Nope. Still the sad, dopey, mopey puppy he'd been turned into. Sigh.

S01.E04: Chapter Four - Sanctuary
FierceCritter replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in The Mandalorian
I re-watched a couple episodes last night to check the sound with headphones plugged into my Roku remote. Tried both a pair of Bose over-ear and in-ear models. You have to crank the volume up into the 60's to get any sound at all, but that could just be the Roku remote hook-up. Neither set was better than the other, but the sound was better overall. At a comfortable listening volume, I could hear more of BnY's vocalizations. Guess I'll be watching with captions and headphones from now on. -

I, too, know this dance. I have found that if you have a setting on your sound controls to equalize the volume, that can help with that. It's not perfect, but it helps. -

Is anyone else struggling with the sound? I watch almost everything with captions. I have an auditory processing disorder that makes it difficult for me to separate sounds. Like, in a bar, if someone tries to have a conversation with me I have much difficulty because I can't make their voice out from music and other people talking. Watching things on TV, the issue often is the soundtrack seems louder than the dialogue. I have a better than decent TV. But I live in an apartment, so I don't bother with sound bars or monitors because I'm courteous about that sort of thing (even if my neighbors aren't so much). I keep seeing (child coos) etc and I am not hearing almost ANYTHING from BnY. Is it just me? I'm going to re-watch one of the episodes with headphones through my Roku remote, see if that makes any difference. -
S10.E08: The World Before
FierceCritter replied to nodorothyparker's topic in The Walking Dead Franchise Shows
I'd like to trust Virgil. But if he and his family are ALONE on this naval base, which should have had fully stocked pantries, infirmary, etc, what "supplies" could he possibly hope to find on the mainland at this point? -
Graduated from a SE Michigan high School in 1986. Last day of school that year was June 6th. And as far as I remember, last day of school was always in the first week of June. First day of school was usually the day after Labor Day. I remember feeling like I was actually missing out due to the holiday coming BEFORE school started. The school year starting in August freaked me out when they started that. I was really glad I'd graduated before that change.

So, what should have happened to the Unsullied and Dothraki then, in your opinion, that would have been acceptable? Because in my eyes, they had their freedom, nobody was trying to keep them anywhere, and an option was at least offered to the Unsullied. I can find zero logical reason for the Dothraki to want to be anywhere but back home with their families and the land they knew. I never saw them as "brown people." I saw them as hired or liberated soldiers, free to do what they wanted when the battle was won. Had Daenerys not gone all "We're gonna keep freeing EVERYONE in the world now!!!" I would have expected them to be all, "Ok. Our work is done here. See ya."

"They don't get to choose."

Absolutely love OzzyMan's review, both the humorous and the insightful. Said it better than I ever could.
-
Oh, I love this idea. Thank you.
-
I loved Daenerys, and she sounded like a tyrant to me. "They don't get to choose." Sealed it for me.

Checked all topics before posting this. There was one other question about font sizes auto resizing but that's not what I'm after here. I've Googled the crap out of this and I can't find an answer. when reading Prime timer tforum posts through Chrome on my Android phone, I can't find a way to enlarge the font so I can read it easier. Using Android's Chrome settings will enlarge some fonts on the browser, but not the ones on the forums here specifically. Any ideas? Bueller? Thanks.

I'll be there to keep you company. I consider this a personally satisfying ending.
