  1. One publisher is on the ball. Joan's book is out in paperback. "My Way of Life." "Part memoir, part self-help book, part guide to being fabulous, "My Way of Life" advises the reader on everything from throwing a small dinner party for eighteen to getting the most out of a marriage. Featuring tips on fashion, makeup, etiquette and everything in between, it is an irresistible look at a bygone era, when movie stars were pure class."
  2. I'm always struck by how much he looks like his father.
  3. I thought there was a style topic, but perhaps it was deleted ... Any jewelry geeks here, or just me? I loved the amethysts, and the platinum & diamond bracelet... https://www.joancrawfordbest.com/jewelry.htm
  4. Interesting article about Joan's last days ... apparently, the show wasn't too far off. http://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2017/04/fx-feud-finale I doubt you'd find any celebrity today who was so accessible to her fans. Answered their letters, allowed them to spend the night, fixed them breakfast. What a memory that would be for any fan.
  5. I was hoping for more comments, to decide if this is worth watching. I saw a bit of the middle, with the young couple, but I was tired.
  6. Mississippi Mud Cake is a popular dessert. Rocky Road ice cream? Maybe Sonic is trying to be edgy. :)
  7. I could understand the reason given in the episode -- medical treatments are barbaric. I know people who've been through cancer and say that if it returns they'll accept it rather than go through it all again. And that's in 2017. Treatment in the 1970s would be worse.
  8. "A spoonable frozen treat made with smooth & creamy Vanilla custard, mixed with your favorite Heath bar pieces." There are six varieties. It sounds good to me! But isn't frozen custard the same as ice cream? Plus they can't hear you.
  9. This reminds me of a comic routine I once heard. We teach children to share, but adults don't share. We insist our kids share their toys, but would you share your Corvette with the neighbors? Hell no. :) Today's pet peeve: people who do not stop at STOP signs. I see it more and more. It doesn't say "don't even slow down, just look both ways and keep going." Well, if any holiday were allowed to creep, it'd be Halloween.
  10. I don't think it's a debate. I've never heard anyone say she was nice or pleasant. But I've heard the same thing said about some other famous actresses. Talented, but nightmares. I finally had a chance to watch this last night, and overall I found it depressing but not unusual. Most women outlive their husbands, and we all face aging. I think I felt for Joan most when her dress didn't fit and she cancelled lunch plans. I'm glad to read that she did not die alone as depicted here. I thought Jessica did an excellent job in this episode, and I forgot it was her although it took her a long time (eight episodes). Regarding the Bette quote, I could believe it in the context of this episode. Bette knew she was expected to say something bitchy, so she did. I loved the dream sequence. It reminded me of my parents and their friends, drinking, laughing, and playing cards.
  11. I remember touring Movieland Wax Museum on a childhood family vacation. The wax figurines often wore original costumes, donated by the stars or by the studios, and they were petite women. Tour a car museum, and note how small the passenger spaces are, even in cars from the 1930s and 40s. I suspect shoe sizes are bigger now because so many girls run around in flip flops. Feet spread a lot. Jewelry stores still use size 7 rings for their samples.
  12. Saw the film last night. Some amusing moments, but meh. Vin Diesel has three expressions in his repertoire. Michelle Rodriguez has had some work done, she's looking prettier. All of the film's budget went to stunts; they should spend a little on dialogue. All in all ... the baby was cute. And since there's now a son and a daughter, we can look forward to decades of this franchise. "Son of Fast," etc., assuming people still drive cars 20 years from now.
  13. Apparently, this was a SuperBowl commercial but I saw it for the first time today (I guess I watch all the wrong programs). Anyway, Aflac, surgeon says "we're just going to make a little incision and remove your 1967 Corvette," (because he doesn't have Aflac and will have to sell his "sweet little muscle machine" to pay the bills). I know some Corvette people, maybe that's why it tickled me. It's funny, but then the ending is offensive, where she's making fun of the unconscious patient; not sure what they were thinking. https://www.ispot.tv/ad/A33a/aflac-super-bowl-2017-surgery
  14. Geico, Walk the Walk Talk the Talk. Makes me laugh. https://www.ispot.tv/ad/wVAV/geico-cowboy-showdown-sheriff-vs-outlaws-feat-chris-browning
  15. How about people in their 40s finding a place for their parents who are in their 70s. You don't have to be 90 to need help. Many older people find that taking care of a house is too much, and would be happier in a small facility with planned activities and shuttle services.
  16. I've decided my biggest issue with Jessica as Joan is that Joan had big blue eyes, and Jessica has little beady brown eyes. Susan resembles Bette, at least. I think Jessica was cast because she's friends with the producer. She wouldn't have gotten the part in an open call.
  17. I saw part of this last night. Joan was beautiful, but I didn't care for the film -- I fail to see the appeal of John Garfield, and there were extended scenes without dialogue, only violin music. I loved the scenes at the end. Joan wore a black sequined gown, and it was stunning with the ocean in the background. There are some things that black and white cinematography favors, and that dress was one of them.
  18. You get samples in the Sephora store? I've never gotten any samples, only online ...
  19. Maybe she doesn't remember. Olivia said she doesn't remember the 1963 Oscars at all because it was so long ago.
  20. The nearest Sonic is 21 miles. I don't think I'll be stopping in for a corn dog, as yummy as it sounds. Now I want a corn dog. *sigh* OMG! Rob Lowe is the new KFC Colonel!
  21. Websites that are formatted for smart phones. Newsflash! (tm Liberty Mutual), we are not all shopping from little devices. Some of us are using laptops. Dinosaurs have money, too, you know! Arrrrgggghhh.
