Speaking from the shallow end of the pool, McKenzie is an attractive woman who wears her outfits well, but last night all I could stare at was her unnaturally yellow hair and the highly-prominent roots. If this is some kind of on-purpose, fashionable look, I'm not a fan.

I found myself playing Solitaire through the finale and only looked up once in a while. Kung-fu beasts? Boring, sorry. Emily's preying mantis would have looked more mantis-like had she painted it green. It just looked like a generic brown bug. Didn't really get dragon from the dragon, didn't really get crane from the crane... Yeah, not very impressive finale.

Books That Would Make Great TV Shows
SirOsisOfLiver replied to Luckylyn's topic in The TV Bazaar: Assorted TV-Adjacent Talk
I've yet to find any book that has ever been done well as TV or a movie. As for sci-fi and the need for technology, I think that's a crutch. I'm thinking to 1968 and 2001: A Space Odyssey. I vividly recall being blown away by noticing the spaceship heading to the space station actually had people moving in the windows. No computers to do some animated touch-up. 1968 tech produced an awesome movie. -
I also won't miss Trista and "stank" is exactly the attitude I got from her as well. Food blogger judge from Vancouver continues to annoy me. "You got Vancouver, the best. Where's the Asian foods?" Because, you know, Vancouver equals Asian. Maybe if you're Asian, but not for everyone. Food bloggers are such a hugely overrated being. I've been eating all my life, but I don't claim to be an expert at preparing food. i don't see the value in some blogger as a judge.

Did I understand judge Mark correctly? $150 for a Tomahawk steak in a restaurant? Not even if I won the lottery.

Kicking & Screaming - General Discussion
SirOsisOfLiver replied to Primetimer's topic in Kicking & Screaming
Talk and cry and talk and cry and talk and cry and hold a stick. And nobody got eliminated. What a waste of time that was. -
Semi-related story. Years ago I was in the military and lived in barracks. One night I'm trying to sleep and "Rumours" is playing in the next barracks block, loud enough to keep me awake. I listen to the entire album, then it starts again. People start yelling across the lawn to SHUT UP! No response. It's starts for a third time, so I get out of bed, get dressed and walk across the lawn to the next building. Go inside, knock on the door, no reply. Check the door and it's unlocked. Enter the room to find a bunch of air cadets were here for the weekend and left the 8-track tape running, but nobody is in the room. I'm sorry to say, I pulled the 8-track from the machine and stomped the tape to death. To this day, I despise that album. Utterly loathe it. 8-track tapes. Yep, I'm old.

Have to agree with those who thought this was a 'meh' episode. Another instance of trying too hard to do something new just because it's new. Personally, when I think about Hawaiian gods, absolutely nothing comes to mind. I could see several of them drawing a blank as they tried to imagine what their god should be. Other than god of possums, of course.

On a completely shallow note, I miss host Lisa Ray. Whoever this new woman is, she has a voice that doesn't sit nicely in my ears.

Masterchef (CA) - General Discussion

If they had to eliminate two, I'd have been very happy to wave bye-bye to Miranda and Aaron. Her constant screeching out orders would have been enough for me to try my skills at knife-throwing. -
The Great British Baking Show On PBS
SirOsisOfLiver replied to Athena's topic in The Great British Bake Off
Speaking of season 1 caused us to go back and watch it again. Little bit of trivia: "On your mark, get set, bake!" was not used once during the entire season. Mel used it first in episode one of season 2. -

Now that we've gotten past the auditions, things really get going. When they bring in people like Heston Blumenthal or Marco Pierre White for a week, it's pretty impressive what these home cooks are capable of. I've said more than once, the average contestant on the North American versions couldn't hold a candle to these people. -

If you're seeing Richard and Nancy, you're seeing UK Season 5. UK season 1 was 6 episodes and if I recall correctly, they moved the tent from one locale to another every episode. -
Masterchef (CA) - General Discussion

MC AU concentrates on cooking and that's it. The challenges are hard enough without any fake producer drama thrown in the mix. They do some seriously difficult stuff, and the people are all just really nice. It reminds me of Face Off: the contestants are all likeable and help each other out of jams. And you won't see a hot babe with her cleavage popping out and her hair down, tottering around a kitchen in heels and a short skirt. -

If you've never seen MC AU, you'll barely recognize that it's the same franchise. I highly recommend it. -
Masterchef (CA) - General Discussion

That was a chickenshit play by Aaron. You were the leader, you made all the decisions, all your decisions were wrong, then you bail out and leave the rest of your team to pay for your mistakes. Real classy move. I don't understand why Thea allowed him to be safe. I would have refused to agree to the unanimous vote. If I have to cook for my life, so do you, asshole. I really hate this "pick somebody to be safe" bullshit. You all lost, so you should all cook. More fake producer-driven melodrama crap. On a brighter note for we Canadians, I noticed an ad for Masterchef Australia to be shown in Canada on Gusto starting next week. It could very easily make me drop this really poor Canadian version. -

I've seen Masterchef US, UK, Australia and South Africa and the US is by far the turd circling the bowl. What a shame that the Canadian version chose to emulate the US version when it could have been so much better. -
Masterchef (CA) - General Discussion
SirOsisOfLiver replied to Meredith Quill's topic in Masterchef (CA)
I found the blond team leader (Miranda?) to be really annoying, and apparently others did too. Which suggests that the casting people would have as well. Which makes me ask myself, was she chosen in spite of being annoying, or because she was annoying? The more this show emulates the U.S. version, the less appealing it becomes. This whole BS of "now you get to save one person - will you save yourself or be honourable?" is such a contrived bit of arranged drama that it irritates the crap out of me. -
Quotable Quotes: Lines from TV You've Made Your Own
SirOsisOfLiver replied to ABay's topic in Everything Else TV
When being observed doing something klutzy: "I meant to do that." (Bart Simpson voice) When explaining how to make something: "Hit the thing with the thing and make another thing." (King Richard on Galavant) -
Hmm. "Yay!" was not the reaction I had. I read about the new show and all I could think was that they're trying too hard, and I don't feel very interested in watching this new show. Amateur cooks cooking in their own kitchens - it's been done. To death.

Quotable Quotes: Lines from TV You've Made Your Own
SirOsisOfLiver replied to ABay's topic in Everything Else TV
I just heard this today on Celebrity Masterchef Ireland and it killed me: Judge: You should smile more often. Contestant: I'm happy inside but sometimes I forget to tell me face. (in an Irish accent) -

When my wife or I want to pretend we can't hear the other, we'll use, "You'll have to speak up, I'm wearing a towel." (although Homer was wearing his around his waist at the time) "You canna change the laws of physics!" -

Season 1, episode 1 of Ultimate Hell Week was a U.S. Navy SEAL named Ray. Same guy was in The Selection.
