  1. This is actually an ad from Snack Hawaii, but it showcases the adorable personalities of Rescue: HI-Surf’s stars.
  2. I watched 42 a couple of nights ago and thought it was terrific. Sure, it was manipulative and played on the audience’s emotions, but it’s a great story, wonderfully acted. I wish it would be forced viewing for every DEI-hating person in the country. For many people, the indoctrination is too deep, but I think some hearts and minds would be cracked opened a little. I miss Chadwick Boseman so much - his acting, his absolutely dazzling smile, his humanity and generosity. Selfishly, I’m sad that there are only a few more of his movies I have yet to watch (Marshall, some Avengers supporting roles).
  3. Gotcha, @proserpina65. That is a bad shot. I was 99% sure it was her but played the video for that extra 1%.
  4. And Catherine O’Hara (of Schitt’s Creek, the Home Alone movies, Beetlejuice, Best in Show, and much, much more).
  5. Does this jog your memory? ”C’mon, Dad! C’mon, Dad! Hurry up, Dad! Dad, we’ve gotta go!”
  6. I’m not at all sure I’m right about this, but I believe the prize for 3rd place is $85,000 and if Rachel had won unanimously, the combined $185,000 for 2nd and 3rd places would have been split between Sam and Sue and they would have received $92,500 each. If that’s correct, the difference is only $7,500 if they tied with zero votes. Since they didn’t tie, the difference is only $15K, certainly not negligible, but not as big a loss to Sue as $50K. I’m not sure if better social skills could have convinced Kyle to vote for her, rather than Sam or Rachel, or convinced any other jury member to vote for her in lieu of Rachel, though. Maybe her grudge against Kyle cost her actual dollars, but I think the real and only cost was likely to her reputation among viewers because most of us thought she was petty and vindictive - and she may or may not care about that. (And I’ve forgiven her, anyway, because the editing probably did make her look worse, and I’m sure she’s a perfectly fine person IRL.)
  7. I’m so grateful for streaming platforms! I’m watching for the first time: The Americans - almost done with Season 2 The Good Wife - almost done with Season 1 The West Wing - only 5 episodes in; it disappeared from MAX after I’d seen 4 episodes but thankfully reappeared a week or so later
  8. The only times I’ve seen commercials for actual Broadway productions have been in NYC hotel rooms as far as I can remember. I think I’ve seen ads for touring Broadway productions while living in OH and MN (but not FL or HI? - but it was also very rare to get anything but local productions in HI). I mostly kept up with NY theater by reading reviews (full and Goings on about Town mini descriptions) in The New Yorker.
  9. I’m right there with you. I tried to watch the Angela Lansbury/George Hearn version years ago and only made it about 15 minutes. I don’t know why my brain makes the distinction, but I can tolerate violent action to a certain extent but not violent horror, which is pretty much what I consider Sweeney Todd to be. And never throat slashing. I truly don’t get why people want to go to a musical with a splash zone of blood.
  10. Magnolia ice cream (Filipino brand) has a queso mais (cheese and corn) flavor that I had once in Hawai’i. I agree it was a bit of a shock at first, but after a couple of bites, I liked it.
  11. He was Aubrey Plaza’s husband and died by suicide. Poor Aubrey.
  12. I think DirecTV has a streaming only service where you can download the app on your smart TV and watch without the dish. The only thing I know about it is from when I had DirecTV several years ago and had to cancel it when I moved to a new place with too many trees to accommodate a dish and I kept getting ads for the streaming version. It might be worth looking into if you liked your choices on regular DirecTV.
  13. From Ted Lasso: Jamie Tartt changed for the so much better. He started out as a preening, egotistical, immature jerk to a wonderful, generous friend and son, while still retaining his humor. The best redemption arc I've ever seen. Nate Shelley - went from kind of sympathetic, if not totally lovable, to despicable (and sort of back again, though I was one who felt his redemption wasn’t totally earned or believable).
  14. Ghoulardi in the Cleveland area. His real name was Ernie Anderson, and he was the father of the director Paul Thomas Anderson.
