Curb Your Enthusiasm - General Discussion

Seinfeld characters were all despicable people. Guessing that was LD’s influence, as well as the “No hugs, no learning” mantra. So he probably thinks it’s even a greater triumph to make people laugh at unlikable figures. Other times, he’s not necessarily despicable so much as stubborn, like not singing happy birthday to Ben Stiller because he doesn’t like the song. But it leads to a big falling out and Ben quits the play they were doing. -

Such a contrast when you watch the early seasons with these episodes. Larry gets into trouble lying and he doubles down, pretending to like Greek music and then uses earplugs so he doesn’t learn the truth about the hygienist or the maintenance guy. All because he’s being blackmailed to put that girl in the show. But since Netflix just canceled the show, does that mean he’s out of the obligation? No the previews show him trying to get Cheryl to help make an audition tape for the girl. I don’t know if the stakes for Larry are even believable. He doesn’t have to try to win over TV execs to make a show. He can do new seasons of CYE whenever he wants. So is he really blowing it antagonizing Don Jr. or he doesn’t care if they reject “Young Larry?” And is he really that cheap that he wants leftovers from Leon’s girlfriend’s plate just because he picked up the check? LD really seems to be leaning into the dislikable approach. That one season was all about him trying to put that cafe owner out of business, spending a lot of money. I have to rewatch to see if you can mine comedy out of punching down, a TV mogul with at least hundreds of millions trying to bankrupt a small business owner. -
I'll have to watch again but Kendall decided on the spur of the moment to go into the office. Forget exactly what he was doing. He said something about he has to find out what Shiv was doing. He apologized to Shiv for some "bad rocks" the insulting things he said about how her teats were her best assets because they insulate her against the cruises scandal. Then Logan tells her that Gerri is for optics, implying that he didn't make her president because of optics. Even though she is his daughter, does Shiv really trust her father -- she did say yes she trusted him -- not to use her the same way he's admitting he's using Gerri? Because he told Roman that he didn't figure him for a faggot. Father of the year we're talking about. The kids know this. In fact, they probably learned how to be vicious to each other from the old man. First Kendall humiliates her first moment in front of the Waystar employees. Then she hits him back even harder. Logan is all bluster and thought he got Michelle Anne to get the DOJ to back off but apparently WH meddling backfired and the DOJ got more aggressive. He turned his back to his people before he surrendered, told them that they are cooperating with the DOJ. Probably didn't want them to see the fear in his face. Last week he wanted Marcia back but now he's saying the "hen house" is draining him of money. Yeah I think the FBI raid on a major corporation is going to grab all the headlines. Though they can't completely forget Shiv's little announcement either. Kendall won't be doing any TV appearances for awhile.

Here's an article on some recent studies. https://www.nbcnews.com/health/health-news/vaccinated-people-are-less-likely-spread-covid-new-research-finds-n1280583 The science is evolving. In the spring, the CDC said vaccinated people can go without masks. Then delta variant hit and they found that vaccinated people had similar viral loads as unvaccinated people. But now they're seeing that viral loads may be comparable only for a short period of time and the vaccinated people are likely to shed non viable virions. In any event, the show didn't go into vaccinated vs. unvaccinated. Caitlin was going on about unvaccinated first responders and them not being forced to get vaccinated to keep their jobs. -

You should do some more research. The past couple of months, most of the people taking up hospitals are unvaccinated people. Most of those dying have been unvaccinated. We're talking 90% or more in most hospitals. Of those with breakthrough cases leading to hospitalization or deaths, most are elderly with underlying conditions. But for instance, hospitalizations and deaths have increased in the 25-54 age groups and more children have been hospitalized since Delta. You should also read into super-spreader events the last few months. Most of the time there are unvaccinated spreaders causing a cluster of new infections. That isn't to say vaccinated people haven't spread infections. But it's far less frequent. Flannagan is spreading unfounded bullshit. She's talking about first responders NOT having to get vaccinated. She's not talking about vaccinated first responders at all. She said if they don't feel like getting the vaccine, that should be good enough. No Caitlin, vaccine mandates are legal and the courts have backed them up for over a century now. The conservative Supreme Court has declined to hear appeals of vaccine mandate challenges from students in Indiana (Amy Comey Barrett) or this week, the Court voted 6-3 to deny a challenge from Maine plaintiffs who demanded religious exemptions for vaccine mandates for health care workers in that state. Caitlin apparently gets weak-kneed for cops and firemen, those strong, faster gender who rescue people. So she's willing to let them slide on mandates. For people who aren't thirsty, that kind of weak reasoning won't fly. -

You are far less likely to get seriously ill or killed with vaccination. You are also far less likely to spread. Because most of the virus you shed will be coated with antibodies so those viruses will not be "viable" as virus shed by an unvaccinated person. But she was referring to people refusing to get vaccinated in the first place. Covid is the leading cause of first responder deaths in the past year to two years. Way more than shootings of cops. Police can refuse to get vaccinated and find another job. That's not forcing anything. That's them making a choice. They want to value their "freedom" or whatever reason they have for not getting vaccinated more than their jobs. De Santis is offering $5000 for cops to move down to FL. OK, that may cover your moving expenses. But if you're a cop in a big city like LA or Chicago, where some tiny minority of vocal cops are saying they won't get vaccinated or even disclose their vaccination status in the case of Chicago cops, they can move to FL. Chances are though, their salaries would go down but again it's TOTALLY their CHOICE! -

I haven't been to Blenheim but Picton is the town that the ferry arrives at so a lot of people go through Picton area. The vineyards and the mountains in the distance look nice but the Picton area is right on the water and near the archipelago, just world-class scenery there. I guess they really want to work in the wineries because I don't know why they'd try to live around Blenheim instead of Picton. Blenheim is larger so maybe the rental market is more competitive. Otherwise, it's a 25-30 minute drive from the ferry port to Blenheim area. So the guy taking the ferry every weekend would have to either drive or be picked up there or take the bus. A lot of the interstitials featured them trying out wine so maybe that's how they spend their time, doing a lot of wine tasting, as opposed to hiking or water sports. As for the homes, I guess the main advantage of the small home is to save money. But the difference was a couple of hundred dollars? A couple of nights in a motel for their guests will eat up all that savings. If family visit though, there are many other scenic places on the South Island than just the Picton/Blenheim area. I would imagine they might stay with or near them a couple of times but would want to go elsewhere. Or the family really loves wine. -

Yeah heroic masculinity.🙄 Is she trying to sell a book or is she one of those women who seek out partners who are much bigger and taller than her, because she has daddy issues and fantasies about being rescued and swept off her feet by dashing behemoths like in fairy tales? Grow up Caitlin. Get therapy. -

Maher is a covidiot. vaccine or mask? It is both you dolt. Europe has very high vaccination rates, much higher than the US. Several countries like Denmark and The Netherlands lifted measures like masking. Guess what? Cases are rising again, just as winter is arriving. They’re talking about imposing measures again. then Bill claiming natural immunity is better than vaccinated immunity. No, that isn’t true, there are conflicting studies. And people who’ve gotten covid have different levels of immunity. then the moronic writer saying first responders like cops and firemen shouldn’t have to get vaccinated even though they’re getting close to other people. Yeah they don’t have to get vaccinated. But then they have to get other jobs. No it’s not good enough if they don’t feel like it, just as health care workers and people who work in nursing homes can’t decide they don’t feel like it and continue to work close to the elderly and sick, vulnerable people. So fuck off Caitlin Flanagan. -

Yeah you wouldn't want to get water on the keyboards. Maybe watch a movie or something but doing a lot of input is probably not a good idea. And it would be work, when you're suppose to be relaxing, though I haven't had a bath since in forever so maybe I don't know if people are trying to be "productive" while soaking in the tub. Maybe a touch screen would work better, though you still wouldn't want the iPad to drop in the water. -
I'm not sure though. US has elected sons of former presidents more than once and family dynasties in politics are a thing because of name recognition. I think it happens in other realms, like sports. I wouldn't be surprised if board members, which are usually handpicked by the CEO, are easily swayed by family names. If you look at some corporations, you see for instance the grandchildren or great grandchildren of Henry Ford have key roles in Ford the corporation over the years, even though it's a public company. Of course Succession is loosely modeled on the Murdoch dynasty and Rupert's children have some key positions in the company, which again is public but they set it up in such a way or have so many shares that they could effectively keep family control. Kendall clearly knows many of the board members, which probably can't be said for Shiv or maybe not even Roman, even though he was a corporate officer. He also seems to know some of the big shareholders so it's a matter of whether he could convince them. He could jargon them and come up with some vision for the company. Whether that vision is prescient or just malarkey, the fact that he could spin a strategy might be enough to convince some shareholders.

She was also eating something from a plate on her belly. But they just cut from montage of other people working out, working up a good sweat and then cut to Big T lounging on some big inflatable thing on the pool. Really the workout theater really doesn't predict who wins ultimately. CT and Ashley work out but they don't work out as hard as others. In any event, while the Final challenges can have some hardcore endurance sections, those alone don't determine who win. IOW, they avoid making the Final challenges into pseudo triathlons. The puzzles and eating challenges negate any advantages pure fitness may provide to some people.

Bangkok, Thailand - She wanted to spend $500, he wanted to spend up to $1300. He was software engineer so there was no reason to have such a low budget. I thought the other two places looked nicer than the one they picked but I guess it was better for their kids, with playgrounds nearby and places to ride their bikes. She must have styled those kids, with the floppy hair and the hipster glasses for the boy. -

She doesn't seem that much younger. Maybe coloring her hair? But she's the one who wanted him to stop partying and going out as much, live a more quiet life. Yeah they were nice properties. Previous CSL episodes didn't seem to have as nice properties. I guess the second one tied to the resort is nice but you probably pay more for food and drinks at that resort pool or restaurants than in downtown. I wonder if people are drawn there for the views but don't do anything too active, like kayaking around those rock formations. The guy looked like he enjoyed the views but would prefer to hang out at bars. Or at least that was the script. -
They're not even going to a public restaurant are they? Seems like a "club" they set up like the one they did on the same grounds in Iceland the last season. But even before the pandemic, it looked like they booked venues for a private party and there were no bystanders around. I think the Jersey Shore cast stopped going to public night clubs because bystanders were trolling them or getting into altercations.

The Daily favored the Emerald team because they had the numbers. Two of the men just took out CT and Kyle couldn’t beat the other guy one on one. similarly, teams with two women were at a disadvantage vs. the three women on Emerald. why didn’t they make one male and one female on Emerald sit out? They are being rewarded for the two previous Daily wins. So now, which vet women will call out Emy? She’s big enough to threaten Tori and Kaycee, the two strongest women other than Emy. but now they have teams of 4, 5 and 6. How many total competitors will go to the Final? At most 12 or 4 players from each team? There might only be 3 eliminations left, 2 males and 1 female. or maybe there will only be 6 players in the Final and it will be some kind of individual battle, not teams or even pairs. this was the 12th episode so we may end up with a Final and Reunion, maybe 18 or 19 total episodes.

Here is an interview from April from the new show runner, who's taking over in season 3. They shot for 3-4 months last November and expected to finish filming by September. What is interesting is that they are keeping the same leads. I thought the original plan was for them to use older actresses by season 3. But maybe because of the delays due to the pandemic, the young actresses may be able to credibly play characters in their mid 20s? https://variety.com/2021/tv/directors/my-brilliant-friend-season-3-director-daniele-luchetti-1234952331/ I think one of the recent HBO promos of their various shows briefly showed MBF characters, so maybe towards the end of this year or early next year, season 3 will be released. -

10-year college reunion to evaluate where she’s been, where she hopes to go. maybe she was walking on eggshells around Lawrence like she was around Molly, because he seemed to know that she wasn’t feeling so strong about them getting back together after learning he was having a child with another woman. But as noted the previews make it appear he’s not out of the picture. I’m trying to remember whether they used the device of Issa having convos with her alter egos since the first season. From the previews it appear they will use it a lot this season. it wasn’t just the sense of danger which draws Issa and Molly close together again. They shared laughs about the robbers not wanting Issa’s shoes and the male accomplice being fine. Being back at school where they became BFFs probably helped too. But I wonder if their fight will be completely forgotten, that is if it will crop up during this season. They may not always remember or think about it but the things they said are hard to take back or pretend the words were never uttered.

Looks pretty old for 25. Maybe she's shaving some years?

My TiVo recorded something as Southern Charm last week and it was a 4 minute commercial for this little one off show featuring a couple of the sC bozos with the cast from this other show. what a crock.

Someone posted that he’s out of his relationship. With Naomi now single and Craig finally being serious about being a lawyer — you know that will be his story line for next season — it’s fate!

He’s trying law now, after being on TV for years? also his pillow business took off, supposedly?
