  1. Finished it. They did a good job with rendering the paranoia Will must have felt when he couldn't trust his bosses. It appears the writers didn't expect to be canceled after 1 year because the ending is unresolved. Interesting, they do get "downloads" from the NSA but API is there to sort through the data and make sense of it all. Andy, the sexy neighbor, turns out to be a player in the game as well but they don't reveal it until the end. Ending is unsatisfactory because the characters that viewers were mad to sympathize with kind of lose in the end.
  2. She's used to a certain standard of living. She had a complaint about every place they saw and the agent had to suppress a desire to roll her eyes and keep repeatedly telling her that's city living or you have to have tradeoffs. I forgot how far she said her work was, sounded like a long commute, because she wanted to have amenities around her place. But the reserved parking is no doubt a must in the center of any European capital.
  3. OK, Ryan must be encouraged to antagonize Aesha and Benny to piss off Jaime? Benny says he's there to have fun. Well this isn't a regular charter crew, it's a TV show so his attitude is somewhat understandable. Are Jaime and Jason his real bosses or they're playing roles like he is? Ryan talking like that, and doubling down over and over has to be enhanced for TV. If he really said things like that on a real charter there would be problems. Why would he want to openly flout guests' wishes if he's also in it for the tip? Was it really Magda's idea to do her Marilyn Monroe thing? She's too skinny. Again, seems like she would have had to have some prompting though maybe with her dance background, she's a bit of a ham. That extra tip thing is also suspicious. $500 each to 5 different cast members? Why would Benny get one of the extra tips? But everybody who got the extra envelopes immediately agreed to share? These guests were demanding but generous. Or the tip is a fiction, the producers decide what they get. The crew muttered under their breath "never come back" but they put on the smiles and said "bye, come back soon!" Primary was belittling Aesha for not making him a good cappuccino, told them to get a frother. He's the one who talked about not liking the decor. With that funny voice, probably a voiceover they added later.
  4. About a dozen reviews so far, seems to be considered solid but not getting big raves. https://www.rottentomatoes.com/tv/tokyo_vice/s01/reviews?type=top_critics Probably not comparable but this show depicts Yakuza like and Apple TV + Pachinko apparently touches on the Yakuza as well. Interesting timing for both shoes to have overlapping release schedules.
  5. Marcello was the younger, dark-skinned brother who really wanted Lila, saw her dance. Lila also threatened him with a knife. Then Marcello got permission for her hand in marriage from her father but she wasn't having it. He bought them a TV and so on but she married Stefano, the chubby grocery guy. Marcello agreed to buy Lila's shoe design and open up a store. When Lila worked there they sold a lot of shoes but she didn't want to get close to the Solaras so she ran away. Michele then became enamored of her, recognizing her genius.
  6. That's the case in at least the Greek islands. They put in narrow pipes, actually the British did after WWII. So they put in a covered bin which is lined with plastic and ask you not to flush any paper or wipes down the toilet. Not sure about mainland Greece.
  7. I thought she said more than once as she looked at the properties that we might be in here for a long time. Maybe long time in her mind meant the time it took to design and build a custom home. I may have missed it but I didn't hear them talk about the custom home until the aftermath segment.
  8. It's not just the behavior but the plaintive or whining tone they have, especially the oldest one. The actresses must have been given direction to talk like that. And make the viewers hate them.
  9. So they’re building a home after talking about a long term rental? 30 minute drive to the beach. Pleasant when it’s sunny, though they have to run the AC. But what happens when it rains? They have a 4x4 but is it enough? Beach walks, trips to stores and restaurants, yoga classes all require 30 minute drives each way.
  10. Maybe in the finale, Phil will leave them a ton of money, problem solved! They will be independently wealthy and free to pursue whatever their brilliant minds want to pursue.
  11. Or just put up a Nespresso in the main lounge but with third-party capsules and let them go at it with as much coffee as they want.
  12. That's assuming they had a good idea of how the title related to the episodes and plots from the beginning. Maybe they did but they long ago gave up on trying to make the title make sense. Things could be a lot worse but they could also be better. Or maybe Sam thinks things are great. She seemed to prefer that her daughters go to college, particularly Frankie, whom she thinks is brilliant. Lot of parents would be unable to let this go, would continually bother them. But Sam registered her opinion and then never said anything more about it. The girls get annoyed as if she needles them or she makes unreasonable demands of them. They don't know how easy-going and undemanding their mother is.
  13. Maybe Sam's still happy. Most of the rudeness of her daughters seem to just roll off her back. She doesn't seem to dwell on them or let them make her miserable. She either doesn't see the behavior as rude or she doesn't care. She doesn't see herself as a doormat? That's why things are better, the ones you love can repeatedly dump on you but you're oblivious or you don't care? Suppose to be kind of a zen state of bliss?
  14. There are only 2 episodes left now. Too late for these daughters to show growth or maturity. Of if they do it in the last two episodes, it will seem rushed and inauthentic.
  15. I did a quick search for articles or interviews and there's not one mention of how poorly the daughters come across. It's suppose to be real human relationships, optimism and other positive stuff. So Sam isn't so much a working single mother as she is a friend to her daughters, you know with the ups and downs of all relationships. One of the few times Sam pushes back is when Frankie says "OK Boomer" and Sam corrects her that she's Gen X. That's some parenting right there.
  16. Could Amy Shumer be joking about being traumatized? Mock trauma and then immediately flip to a joke which might be offensive to some?
  17. This episode kind of hints at what the “better things” are about this show. Sam has raised three strong-willed women or women to be. Do we know why they are strong-willed? Because they are all dismissive of her, even Duke now. But when they get drunk enough like Max, they recognize what a glue and backbone she is for this family. Or it’s a co-dependency. If and when the girls all leave, Sam is going to have serious Empty Nest syndrome. Sam doesn’t like the girls ignoring her or being dismissive so she calls a family meeting, demands their phones, so they can interact more. Honey it isn’t the phones, they ignore you because you’ve been a doormat to them. We get treated to not only cooking scenes but a shopping for grocery scene. She loves entertaining people, kind of being a den mother for all the quirky people her daughters and friends know. That’s kind of a genuine thing, even if she doesn’t know everyone in her home. But Sam’s so cool and tolerant, doesn’t mind her daughter being a beard, almost everything goes. Would she put her foot down if she caught Max vaping or drinking? Have we seen her ever impose rules or boundaries? Banana sandwiches and cream or something? Suppose to be a funny way to describe how she got pregnant?
  18. Yeah they had to send him off in the middle of the charter for the drama. The replacement has to go through quarantine but they expect to have him or her in just a couple of days? Tom's not just goofing around, he's sitting on the deck and gossiping about how he's been inside Ashley. No guests around but inappropriate workplace conversation, though this isn't a real workplace and fraternization is of course encouraged. Ashley is like, "he'd got to go" but then puts on a sad face to say goodbye to him. Talent show is from the producers, to make the cast jump through more hoops. But it looked like the guests and the cast really got into it and enjoyed each other. At most real charter crew may sings Happy Birthday, like some restaurant staff do. Or will they really go to this extent? At least Gabriella had some singing background and Colin could play the guitar and sing a bit.
  19. S05.E06 Becoming Not only can she not get away from the old Neighborhood, Elena is now a part of the Solara family and they have a little get-together at her sister Elisa and Marcello Solara's home, to celebrate the birthday of the dragon queen Solara. Lenu and Lila are cross, Lenu about having to take care of Lila's kid and Lila being judgmental about her choices from afar. Gigiola isn't too happy about sitting down for lunch with Lila, whom Michele is openly lusting for. Solaras talk up Lila's genius with data processing -- do camorristi run their finances through computers? Lila keeps talking about how much money she makes a month. She's not even 30 but she has gray hairs. The dream Lenu has about fighting Lila, forcing her to read the pages from the German translation of her novel doesn't disturb her but she recognizes that she's been trying to become someone for most of her life in Lila's shadow or wake as she described it. Just the mention of Nino going back to Naples and marrying some banker's daughter makes her anxious again, worried Lila would get back together with Nino. While she rejects Pietro's assessment of Lila as having some kind of evil intelligence, she recognizes that she has to become someone for herself, apart from Lila. But she can't quit these people, with all the familial and lifelong ties. Even though she often speaks in Italian rather than Neopolitan dialect now as an adult, she's still bound to her origins.
  20. Did Kaley have long bangs in season 1? Covering up forehead wrinkles? I would't care but maybe Cassie is suppose to be 5 years younger than Kuoco or maybe even still in her 20s?
  21. Yeah no more said about the one-nighter on this episode. Will it surface again? Here's the thing though, why are they talking succession when he won't run until 2028? The earliest he'd start campaigning, going to Iowa and stuff, would be in 2026. Oh gawd, they plan to be around another 4 seasons at least!
  22. Looked like Wendy and the monk was about to get it on.
  23. Yeah it was confusing or he really stretched to connect his "real man" New Rule from last week into how Hollywood liberals were hypocrites for cheering on Will Smith? Going with his logic about "real man" Will was protecting Jada. But somehow, someone not liking a joke about a woman's hair problem would be woke, wouldn't it? Bill doesn't like any of his jokes, no matter how rude, to be received badly. He takes offense when his jokes make audiences groan. Yet he was blaming the liberal Hollywood audience for hypocritically not condemning Will? Well they gave him a standing ovation for his award speech, which was rambling nonsense. But did they really approve of his actions or still do a few days later? What a dilemma for Bill, a joke causing a poor reaction versus a "real man" protecting his woman. If Will didn't slap Chris, the talk may be more about how mean and unfunny his joke was, which would probably annoy Bill too.
  24. Trying to recall, is Ryan the only American on the cast? No, I think Culver and Brittini are Americans as well.
  25. So $16-17 billion isn't even that much compared to what Musk, Bezos and Gates are worth. Or Buffet or a half dozen other billionaires. Hell it may not even be the biggest wallet in Manhattan. That street where they parked the truck is full of homes well into 8 figures. So why would they care Wendy writes a draft of a tell-all book and the great psychiatrist and motivator of high-earners the she is, she's surprised at the negative reaction from the old Axe Cap employees? (I thought Bonnie quit to join Dolla Bill and Maffee) First of all, wouldn't that be a violation of doctor-patient confidentiality -- I thought she had a medical license. Second, there were likely NDAs she signed with Prince. Maybe Axe didn't make her sign an NDA though. She was a cheerleader all those years for what they did at Axe and now she wants to unburden herself? Even though she pulls it, those employees will never trust her again, so she's kind of worthless now to the firm. So Prince is going to ride to the candidacy for the WH on a UBI scheme? Hardly original. Plus none of the investor class would ever support it. Now maybe he'll get some votes but what else does he have beyond the gimmick? It would get him noticed, otherwise he was just another billionaire with no public service background. Will an outsider billionaire get not just the backing of voters but Congress to do the things he wants to do? Not likely. Good plan to tell off the Chinese and have the story leaked. He probably sent Wags to China to set up the deal in the first place, without Wags realizing it. Makes him look good, especially now. However, funding the UBI pilot program himself makes it look like he's literally buying votes. Philip and Taylor are so preoccupied with becoming the next chief that they don't see the obvious. Chuck doesn't see it either until the episode is almost done. You'd think Wendy would have realized it, especially after their convo in the previous episodes where he's talking about being once in a thousand years great man. Chuck's reaction, that Prince must be stopped, is ridiculous as usual. In the early seasons, that's how Chuck and his father saw his path, governorship and then running for the WH. So that's a crime by Prince, having great ambition? He should have locked up most of NYC then.
