  1. She's free to identify as whatever she likes but I find it odd that she identifies as white yet chose to audition for "Iris" when the casting call was for an African-American.
  2. Critiquing any of of Shonda's shows is critiquing her work- nothing I have a problem with. Saying she's bossy and bitchy is something completely different and I don't see how that translates to the actual content of her body of work. This is no different than me calling my boss bossy and bitchy if she implemented a new policy that I simple didn't like for whatever reason. And furthermore, Shonda has said on more than one occasion that Olivia doesn't seem to realize that love isn't supposed to hurt so I'm not sure where you're getting that she thinks Fitz and Olivia's relationship is desirable. As for fans sending JJ Abrahams or any other person death threats over their work, they are simple fucking loons who should be locked up in a padded room. And I wouldn't compare it to the Shonda issue (unless she was also sent death threats) because that's like comparing apples to oranges- two different things.
  3. There's a difference between critiquing someone's work and the person themselves. And unless I misinterpreted the poster I quoted, we were both talking about the latter. Both people you cited work has been critiqued but I don't remember anyone referring to them as bossy and bitchy.
  4. I think it's both her race and gender. A woman is not supposed to be bossy and set rules and a black woman who knows her worth and won't put up with other's crap is a bitch.
  5. This season has been much better than the last one but I can't say that I love any of the individual episodes as much as I did the first few of season one. However, I really enjoyed this episode and can finally say that I'm looking forward to next one. I see some of you guys are thinking that ichabbie, in the romantic sense, could happen in the back half and even though I'm indifferent to them at this point I definitely agree. The Ichabod and Joe scenes over the last few episodes laid the groundwork for Ichabod to realize he's in love with Abbie. Abbie on the other hand, however doesn't seem to have much interest in romantic Ichabod though that could change and would be interesting to see her open up with a love interest.
  6. Not every show needs to be dissected. Some of them are simply to be enjoyed or not as is and I feel like Grandfathered is one of those. It's not the funniest but I'm really enjoying it and I like all the characters.
  7. The show probably won't last but I'm enjoying it and I hope we at least get to see all the episodes that are filmed.
  8. Scandal: Jake and Mellie. The former I never liked from his introduction and I hate how his killing of James and grabbing Olivia by the neck is overlooked. The latter I loved through the first 2.5 seasons before all the retconning began which basically turned her into a poor put upon victim instead of the ruthless woman who would've done anything and used anyone to further her agenda. Vampire diaries/originals: I gave upon the mother show a long time ago and watched half of the first season of the originals and I also never got the appeal of Rebecca and Elijah. I found both their asses to be insufferable. Damon is another one I don't get and Ian S. is average at best in both looks and talent.
  9. I finally got around to see the show and I definitely thought that the chemistry was off between the Witnesses but it worked within the story as they were apart for 9 months and hadn't spoken to each other. I didn't like Pandora as much as everyone else seems to though I thought the scene with Abbie was her best. Betsy Ross- I agree with everyone else that the corset was ridiculous and her voice was too modern. However, I didn't have a problem with the ackward kiss as I believe that was the whole point of it. All in all the episode was boring but I'm going to see where the next couple of episodes go before I decide if I want to continue watching this season.
  10. Megan Good and Necole Beharie looks nothing alike so I don't see why there's a comparison and being happy that Minority Report started bad. Anyway both shows will be cancelled seeing as Sleepy Hollow only got a 1.0
  11. I was bored out of my mind watching this and gave up sometime around the fifteen minute mark into the second episode. I felt like it was all over the place and too over the top.
  12. I really hate the Thursday schedule and I guess it won't matter as I'm not a Nielsen member but I'm definitely going to watch Scandal live and SH whenever it gets put on hulu plus.
  13. I've only seen Newsroom from Aaron Sorkin and the female characters were some of the worst I've ever seen. And the writing for the show was downright terrible even though I shared some of the viewpoints. Also Shonda Rhimes may not be the best writer but she has no problem writing for women of color and I'd take that over Sorkin and all other writers who act like they don't exist or should just be the best friend of a white character to be only brought out when said character needs someone to talk to.
  14. This is probably what has cause me to enjoy the show less and less with each passing episode along with the writing for Olivia. Mellie started out as an unconventional female character who was very enjoyable (to me) who didn't give a shit about Fitz or her kids other than how they could benefit her agenda to someone who constantly whined about Olivia and later written as she was a victim of big bad Fitz and Liv. It's like Shonda didn't really know what to do with her and of course wants to stretch out putting Liv and Fitz together so we get this mess of a retcon.
  15. Sleepy Hollow only had 18 episodes and only 2 of them were Abbie, (one of the co-leads) centric while most of the rest were focus on secondary characters, one of which was poorly received the first season and a new guy whose only purpose was to replace a fan-favorite character and be a part of a gross love triangle featuring two sisters. The show was also supposed to be about two witnesses battling evil but that was replaced as well with endless family drama between two chemless characters and their petulant whiny elderly teenaged son. That wasn't a show invariably getting away from its core, it was a deliberate attempt by the showrunner to enforce his muse on the fans and then stated that he was only giving fans what they wanted even though no one asked for it. And fans weren't the only ones unhappy with the turn of events as critics were also calling them out on their b.s. So anyone "screeching" had every right to voice their complaints about the show they fell in love with doing a 180.
  16. Thanks for this and I'm even more excited now.
  17. I enjoyed the episode more so because it seems to be a step in the right direction rather than it be a great episode in itself though there were some nice moments in it; Katrina displaying emotion other than a blank stare or some shadiness, Abbie & Ichabod and Jenny & Frank interactions. Welcome back Mr and Mrs. BAMF. Also love the callback to the pilot. I'm still a little apprehensive about Abbie being in the past but I'm going to wait and see next week's show before I comment any further on that. And this may be fanwank but I thought that Henry was tricking Katrina into resurrecting the coven for his own dastardly plans. Watching their interactions, all I saw was him manipulating her and playing into her motherly guilt and of course she felt for it.
  18. A lot of people have racial bias but don't want to admit it because to do so they think they'll be associated with the KKK who they think they are above. I remember a board I used to visit a few years ago where one poster hated pretty much every minority female character that were ever discussed especially if there was ever any perceived intent that they may become a love interest for a white male but would get outrage at police brutality against minorities.
  19. I've pretty much forgotten about this show but I agree with some of your uos especially 1, 4 & 5. And to expand on 4 & 5, I thought the show on a whole was like badly written fan-fiction so Miracle Day for me was in the same vein as the other seasons. I was also surprised by Ianto and Jack because one minute Ianto was risking everyone's life to save his ex-girlfriend and the next he was in-love with Jack. They didn't have any build-up and all of a sudden they were the love of each other's life.
  20. I seriously don't understand why there needs to be a comparison/competition between the two. They are the 2/3 African-American leading ladies on a tv landscape that's filled with white faces and instead of celebrating that people would rather use every opportunity to elevate one while putting down the other. smh Anyway I enjoyed the episode while seeing the Ian thing the moment she woke up in the cell. The warehouse part did get me though and I thought Abby asking her if she was in love either man was a pretty interesting question and I hope it leads to the resolution of that horrible triangle.
  21. With the current success of Grey's Scandal and HTGAWM, they'll probably let her cast whoever she wants. And I think that most shows goes off the rail in their third season if they manage to avoid it in their second. Also Scandal has improved this season though it's still not as good as the first 1.5.
  22. Season 3 of Scandal was terrible on a whole and while I think Kerry is a competent actress, I never thought she was brilliant so my issue is not her getting nominated or not. It's the fact that their were 5 spots for lead actress nominees with only 2 repeating from last year and instead of comparing her with all of the other nominees, the only thing people talked about was that Viola replaced her. Saying that when both of them are black while all the other nominees are white is co-signing that "there can only be one". And fans can prefer whoever they want but that doesn't mean viewers can't have an issue with what's going on on screen which was Mellie being treated as a lead and being rewritten to be a victim. I had/ have no problem with Bellamy but I like Mellie less and less with each re-write and seeing her being pushed to the fore-front while Olivia lost her backbone and became nothing but an object for Fitz, Jake and Rowan to fight over was an issue for me. And Kerry get's a lot of criticism that neither Viola or Taraji will get because Olivia is sleeping with a married white man.
  23. Everytime I hear someone from the show reference this I feel like they don't really get it and think that fans only dislike Katrina because they are shippers. And Katia is definitely trying to throw the writers under the bus and honestly I can't blame her. She's not a good actress and I hated that tweet but at the end of the day she's looking out for herself. She may have made suggestions but it was Goffman et al. who had the final say.
  24. This was a pretty decent episode and one of the better ones of this season. The karaoke scenes were really funny and Nicole has a lovely voice. All the ichabbie moments were also good but their chemistry still seems off to me. I don't know if it was done intentionally due to the dialogue or bts stuff but it felt muted. That end scene with Irving was pretty Creepy and I'm happy that Cynthia felt weirded out by him literally coming back from the dead and I can't wait to see how this storyline develops. And maybe I'm in the minority but I'm glad that Hawley is gone and I'm hoping for good. The actor was okay but him essentially replacing Jenny killed any goodwill I could have had for the character. Also the fact that this was his story without either Abbie or Crane being backburned showed what the writers and producers intentions were concerning Katrina.
  25. I gave up on Private Practice before it ended and also haven't watched GA since around season 4 or 5 (can't remember which) and you're correct that elevating secondary characters over leads is a Shonda Rhimes thing and the reason it seemed so egregious with Scandal is because Olivia is black and Mellie is white. Seeing a black character being pushed into the background and a white one emerging out front pushed a lot of buttons for black viewers because we are so used to seeing black characters marginalize and for whatever reason, shonda didn't seem to be aware of what was happening. This has always what bothered me about all these articles written about Scandal, blackish and now Empire. These shows can't just exist to be enjoyed. They have to be criticized within an inch with all these "intellects" saying how bad these shows are. These shows need to be twice as good as their white counterparts for them to be even considered "just okay". Oh man, I remember some people were even saying that they expanded the category just to include her while conveniently ignoring that the actor's category was also expanded. And this year so many of them were happy that Viola was nominated instead of Kerry without realizing that they were basically accepting the "there can only be one" rule.
