  1. Damar to Weyoun: "Maybe you should talk to Worf again" It's all in the delivery. One of the best lines ever on DS9.
  2. First one I've been able to watch all the way through. YMMV. Thanks for posting Nidratime!
  3. I agree. The first one was unwatchable in my opinion.
  4. I think that they did that to flesh out the situation more for the non-book readers. Readers are already hooked, but for someone who is only watching the show, it helps drive home the point that both of them are desperately trying to find each other and how sad it is that they can't. It makes for more compelling TV that way. I also would have enjoyed more Claire and Jamie in this ep, but I totally understand why they went that way.
  5. Why so many rape attempts in the show? In my opinion, the first attempted rape is the catalyst for Claire being angry with Jamie and herself. Jamie, because in her mind, he promised to protect her and they only got out of that fix because she killed the Redcoat, and at herself because she let herself get carried away with a man who is totally besotted with her. When she sees the stones, her anger helps her refocus on her original "mission" - to return to her time. When the Recoats capture Claire at the stones and take her to BJR, of course he's going to rape her because rape is not about sex but about exerting power over someone. You control them physically and mentally and they are powerless and we know by now that his favourite hobby is brutalizing people. In the book these two scenes actually occur a few days apart, but nothing of any real importance happens in those days, so I think that RDM and Co, decided to compress them in the interest of moving things along, which is why Claire had such a bad day as opposed to a bad week. Because up to this point, Claire really didn't get it. The 1700's are very different times. It was not safe for women, it really wasn't safe for anyone. Bad things happened all the time. I think that these two instances of sexual assault will really drive home in her head that "she REALLY isn't in Kansas anymore." She has to start thinking and behaving differently in order to survive in this time.
  6. That's the things with Roadblocks. All you get on the clue is the title and one of you has to commit to doing it. Then you get to open it up and read what the actual Roadblock entails. Sometimes you can guess based on where you are what it will be about, but you are often just guessing who's the right choice. "Who's Da Bomb?" was the only info they had. They probably thought that meant a physical task.
  7. As someone who has also read all 8 books and a few others, I often find myself struggling to remember certain details since I read the first 5 books while on mat leave 12 years ago so I had other things on my mind as well as sleep deprivation, especially for the earlier books. It's great to come here and refresh my memory about certain details. Thanks so much for this thread.
  8. I still recall Nat and Kat who won TAR US Season 17. They were also very calm and focused and not necessarily the most exciting team to watch. I think that the teams who are able to do that fare better in the race because the emotions don't take over. I think that their Olympic training and experience are a huge asset in this area and that's why they've been so successful this season.
  9. The podcasts are killing me. S0104 is recorded even more quietly than the last. I have the volume turned to max and I am really struggling to hear everything. Then you add the bloody fire into it and it makes it worse. If anybody on the Outlander staff is reading this - please turn up the volume!
  10. I think that you need the voiceovers because of how the books were written. Whenever Claire is in a scene of the books, it is written from Claire's point of view. For example: "I saw Jamie walking over to me," as opposed to "Jamie walks over to Claire." A lot of information that the readers get in the books is from her thought process and not from actual dialogue or actions taking place. There has to be some way to impart this information to the viewers and I think that the voiceovers is really the only way you can do it.
  11. I agree as well. Too much focus on the costumes. No real spoliers in this one (S103) , but I would still pause from 40:50 to 41:05, just... because. I also had a trouble hearing the podcast. it was recorded very quietly. My opinion on something in the podcast is probably a spoiler so:
  12. OK, I found the other location of the spoiler. Pause at 43:38 and resume at 44:05. I'm REALLY REALLY sorry if I messed anybody up on this - not my intention at all.
  13. Really? I don't remember that at all, so my apologies if I missed another time when it was mentioned.
  14. If you want to listen to the podcast on iTunes and don't want to be spoiled: Pause at exactly 17:15 and resume at 17:55. Pause again at 43:38 and resume at 44:05. :-) Edited to add the second spoiler location
  15. I really liked what of one the hockey ladies said at one point. I'm parapharasing here, but it was basically how people view Olympians as heroes but that these soldiers are the real heroes. I thought that showed a lot of self-awareness and it is 100% true. Every year the veterans are in my local grocery store around Remembrance Day selling poppies and I always buy them. I've taught my kids that veterans are incredible people and that one of the reasons that Canada is such a great country to live in is because people like them have, and continue to, defend our country to allow us this incredible quality of life. Many of us only have what I like to call "first-world problems" to complain about on a regular basis. It was really nice to see all this reflected in that episode. Good job show!
  16. They probably yell out: "Hey, which one are you?" ;-) They dress the same and look exactly the same - there's no hope for me to tell them apart.
  17. I first started reading these books 12 years ago, and I am so happy that Ron Moore is doing the show. I noticed his long time colleague Ira Behr in the credits as well, so I think we're in good hands. I like show!Frank much better. I was unsure of the casting of Claire, but I think she will work out well. I liked everything but the Jesus H Roosevelt Christ delivery. For me, it did not work and took me out of the show, because I think that rather than say it as a continuous phrase as she did, that you have to angrily spit out each word individually one after another with a slight pause inbetween. I always imagine Claire saying it that way. Very impressed by the first ep. Can't wait to see more!
  18. Strategically that makes a lot more sense than the usual "they were mean to me so I'm going to U-Turn them," that we typically see. If the hockey ladies give them the express pass, then they have an advantage and will leave them alone. If they don't, then u-turning them is a means to slow them down which makes sense since the ladies are currently the dominant team. I can't fault their logic.
  19. TAR Canada does not seem to hold to this rule. Last season the Tims U-turned people twice.
  20. I think that the hockey girls made a big mistake using the Express Pass. You use it when you need it or when you have reached the time limit for it. They haven't even given their other one away yet. Don't the snakes need their gallbladders? Or do they kill them after for the soup. It seemed awfully cruel to do that. And who on earth ever dreamed up doing that for a drink.
  21. You are correct in your assumption UsernameFatigue. They had to sit on the bench and wait out the penalty. The only time that teams start with a penalty is if there was some kind of error that production did not catch until after check-ins.
  22. Penalities on the US version are currently 6 hours for a Detour and 4 hours for a Roadblock. The 2 hours for a Route Marker was new to me since I don't think a team has ever bailed on that type of task before. Bailing on 2 tasks in the same leg? They should count their lucky stars to still be in it.
