  1. Yes, of course. However, there were servants present in Lady Denham's who knew about the baby and Clara confessed about the laudelum at a luncheon with Dr. Fuchs and the Minister present as well as footmen. Even with all of that I don't thing Colbourne or Augusta knew the whole truth about Edward. Just that he had debts and took advantage of local girls and was mustered out of the army. Also, lost the rights to his inheritance. That was enough to make him completely unsuitable.
  2. This was a great episode. The story took quite a leap. Looking forward to next week.
  3. Looks like the end is near for Ralpho. I don't think Georgianna will marry the Duke, something will change her mind. A good episode.
  4. Why would you install a bidet when you are moving out in 2 weeks? At least Kirsten is warming up to Shaq, but he was asked by production if he's "happy" - and he isn't. So, I doubt they will work out. I could see him with Jasmine.
  5. Sorry didn't mean to say anything here! Augusta doesn't know anything about what he did to his Sister or about Clara and the baby - no one else (except Dr. Fuchs and the Minister) knows either. She knows he owed a lot in Sanditon and probably had a reputation with the girls in town. She has met a lot of young men in Bath and at the shooting party who were very interested in her, but she likes Edward. Maybe he'll rescue Leo and injure himself? He's got to redeem himself somehow.
  6. Another good episode. Regarding breaking the engagement - a woman could do that at the time, but a man was obliged as a "gentleman" to see it through to marriage. Probably the only time a woman had more power than a man. Regarding Edward's accceptance by Zander. The only way I see that happening is: he does something heroic, saves someone at great danger to himself and/or his Aunt makes him her heir and he comes into the estate.
  7. This is very not Jane Austen. If she marries the Duke, he will have control of her money, she'd better hope he doesn't run through it. Also Mama & Sis will be living with them, so no live in lover for the Duke. And, what if Georgianna falls in love in a year or two? Her heart would break not to be able to marry and openly be with him.
  8. Regarding the singer: She's an actress - not a singer. The singing was done by someone else and certainly not world class level. Samuel is the older brother - not Zander. I found this out on a PBS email that I signed up for. That would, maybe, explain why he was chatting up the older Susan at the evening entertainment. It doesn't explain why he is not the heir and the younger Zander has the estate. This is something major, I hope it's explained.
  9. Doesn't it seem odd that Georgiana and Charlotte are going to London unchaperoned? In real life, Mary Parker would have to accompany them. If the lawyer is worried about her reputation being questioned in court, wouldn't this be avoided? But in the show, Mary would be in the way, and the girls couldn't have private conversations with the two Colborne brothers.
  10. I hope not, it is too vulnerable to break-ins because of it's easy to figure out location - on the boardwalk!
  11. Yes, you put it much better than I did, but this is what I was thinking too. There would most likely be a class divide if she married Ralph.
  12. Yes, I realize all of that, but Charlotte's Father was never referred to as a "gentleman" or "gentleman farmer" - does that mean Ralph is a gentleman too? And, yes, the show takes lots of liberties in behaviors for the time period. Remember Miss Smith from Emma? She married a farmer too - he was not a gentleman, just a regular type farmer, but Miss Smith was not an heiress, like Augusta.
  13. To those who think Augusta and Ralph should be a couple - he's a farmer, therefore, unsuitable for her. Whereas Charlotte is the daughter of a farmer, so it is expected. For Charlotte to rise in society and marry a Colborne type would rarely happen. This show ignores all of that and has very modern sensibilities.
  14. At first I thought Charlotte and Ralph were married because they were traveling in the coach together unchaperoned.. It seemed really strange to me that she would be allowed to do that. Colborne's house has been completely redecorated. No longer dreary. Painted beautiful colors and lots of white, etc. How so, when they just arrived home? It seemed odd too. I agree with everyone that it was, overall, a great episode.
  15. Where is everybody? Really enjoyed tonight. Like Georgiana & the Duke getting friendly to help each other. Ralph is like a fish out of water, and Charlotte looks foolish for getting engaged on the rebound. Worried about Amanda, Colborne's niece, with Edward, of all people. Like the Priest's sister with the doctor! Can't wait for week 2.
  16. I'm not interested in these two - but it's helping my Spanish.
  17. Join the club! We count the time down every week now.
  18. You're idea of a fun fact is a little different than mine, but that is interesting. I was on jury duty in Manhattan in 96 or 97 with a Doctor who told me to invest in a drug company that was coming out with that little blue pill. Too bad I didn't listen.
  19. She should be used to how things were in the 50's in the USA - wife cleans & cooks. This is the same as 2023 in Morocco. Debbie knows the drill she lived it. She wants this guy and to live in Morocco, that's how it's done there.
  20. He's slicker than Summit, he's promising the moon, but it ain't gonna happen.
