  1. I knew a "Ginger" who's real name was Virginia. I think this is one of the knicknames for Virginia - Ginny, Virgie & Ginger.
  2. Yes - my Mom said Cattycorner too. I've heard of catercorner, but don't use it. It comes across as too fancy for NJ.
  3. Yes, I read the books too, we'll just have to wait and see what will happen here.
  4. Better than last week, but I've got one foot out the door. Too over the top and phony. The fighting is stupid - everything is so superficial. Now we have two new girls who give off a desperate vibe. I won't watch NY again, and may give up here, but for now I'm in.
  5. Agree with several prior points - The show is becoming too sad, it could so easily go the other way with some lightness. The mentioning of Miss Bunkle series is spot on. I watched again last night and did notice the envelope was posted with no stamp. As mentioned above it makes no sense for Helen to have folded the form, place it in an envelope and seal it without a signature. Also, Mrs. Pumpfrey has had a complete makeover. This version is all practicality. The Mrs. Pumpfrey I remember would only love Tricki, not be eager to take in a stray dog, cat, etc. Also, whatever happened to "Uncle Herriot"? That was quite a relationship! She didn't seem to care that Tristan was there and not Uncle Herriot.
  6. I missed the first 10 minutes, jumped in where James was driving back home. I agree with the above, it seems very odd for Helen to walk back to town. How far is it? Has to be at least 2 miles. Other than that it was a good episode. This series is turning very dramatic. It could easily have gone the other way, as did the old one, with Tristan's crazy antics. This Tristan is a real sober sides. I enjoy the show, it's just so very different than the old one & the books. I don't think Mrs. Hall would have had that lingering hand-holding with Siegfrid outside Skeldale House with the whole village viewing - not in 1939. Are they filming Season 4? (I'm assuming it's returning).
  7. Yes - all great points about life today and the unreal expectations, etc. etc. I also see that people in their 20's & 30's and almost childlike in their behavior and expectations of others to defer to their wishes. People in earlier generations were adults with adult lives in their 20's for the most part.
  8. I'm not talking about movie stars, but average everyday women. Girls I went to school with and worked with mostly weighed in the 120's and were average height. The stars you mentioned didn't have arms & waists as big as these MFS girls. Most 50's stars were small - Grace Kelly, Doris Day, Elizabeth Taylor (got heavy later), Dorothy Dandridge, etc. I certainly don't think people should starve themselves or get an eating disorder, I'm merely comparing what we have today in manners and appearance to what life was like in the past. The population in general is more obese, this is a known fact, not being judgemental just observing.
  9. All of these participants are, in a way, victims of the times they are living in. Previous generations knew how to converse, conversation was an art. They would never say anything to insult or be inappropriately blunt and clueless. Second, women were thinner than what the average is now. One rarely saw shapes like these girls have unless it was a woman who had children and was older. It probably has to do with the junk food and lots of eating out, etc. As someone mentioned earlier, the women on the Bachelor don't look like this, so it's possible in this day and age, but not easy. Please don't hate me, I'm an old lady now, but I see the difference so clearly because I lived at a time that was very different. This doesn't mean things were great and there wasn't injustice - it merely refers to the way people were raised to interact in social situations.
  10. A good episode. Found the Mrs. Hall & Edward's scenes too jumpy. Once they connected should have been one scene of the reunion, it was jarring to cut it up into pieces. Where was Helen's Father? I missed the explanation, if any.
  11. Have a gig next Sat 2 pm and Sun 2 pm - hoping people show up on Superbowl Sunday afternoon. Love you all - have a great week!!
  12. I'm at the age where I don't recognize any of the "stars" in commercials, shows, etc.
  13. I'm out at 9:00 for All Creatures - will be back before the end.
  14. OK recent commercial with song in Italian. Our words for it were: Lazy Mary will you get up we need the sheets for the table! Lazy Mary will you get up just as soon as you're able.
  15. Oooooh we've got a younger version of Jennie - He'll never marry you Jen II, & maybe his family will find a cute match (or not). I'm here for it!
  16. That's more interesting than the current show. Which character do you picture? Blondie married to an Egyptian, Jen going to India, or Southern Belle with the onesie fetish?
  17. This is the love boat - no one is hated here! Of course if you have a great story we're all non-judgemental ears, just sayin.
  18. She won't burn wearing a burka and masked up - just the eyes showing.
  19. Let's take inventory - lived in 10 states? Had a job in fashion, but couldn't handle it so quit, falls in love with Egypt and marries a guy. After a few months, has to leave "it wasn't what she thought it would be". Not only is she not marriage material, she is not ready for adult life, I already hate her.
  20. How is she going to live there with no air-conditioning? She has to check into a hotel after 2 days because it's so hot.
