  1. What's up with the end scene where Harvey threaten to bury Louis? I thought Harvey knows that it's mostly Jack's doing and that Louis was already backing off. Not that Louis was completely innocent, since it kinda started with him being petty... still though. So exhausting! Aren't they already working 18 hours a day? Where do they even find the time/energy to continue all these childish shenanigans?
  2. Ack! How dare you?! lalalalalala *plugs ears* (or rather, eyes) Ok ok, it's not ballroom in the traditional sense, but I'm more than willing to call it so, while boarding the hot tamale train full of squealing piggies.... if they do it like Brandon & Janette. Oh mama! https://youtu.be/p7pPjV5nbz8?t=47s
  3. Yea, I don't think Denys' decision screwed over other ballroom guys, even if I'm skeptical about his reason for quitting. Those other guys aren't good enough to pass choreography regardless. The reason why there's only -one- ballroom person this year is because of the "street quota". In a normal season, they woudn't have TEN hip-hop/bboy/animator/krump/whatever dancers combined. Ever. Heck, there wouldn't be 10 contemporary dancers either (unless you count jazz as contemporary). This year's format ruined the balance. Season 5 was contemporary-heavy: 9 of them, 12 if you include the jazz people. But, there were *TONS* of ballroom routines in S5. So yes, it can be done, but seems like the golden days are over. Brandon was so incredible in ballroom I forgot he's contemporary lol. (^ by it, I meant featuring many ballrooms on the show despite only having 4 ballroom dancers.)
  4. I don't know what to make of Denys withdrawing. What if his girlfriend had made it to the Top 20, then gets eliminated after the first week? Will he drop out then? Because the 19-20th place usually don't go on tour. Unless Nigel really really really likes you. Tango and Paso are usually pretty well-received. If danced well, they are as popular as any good hip-hop or contemporary dances on the show. Cha-cha is always fun, depending on whether the dancers can keep up, or at least sell the dance. Ditto Jive. Quickstep. Seems as difficult, but not quite as dreadful as Disco routines. I loved Eliana & Ryan's QS. I want to be reincarnated as Eliana's legs. The Rhumba routines are probably too contemporary-like. See Chehon & Tiffany's notRhumba. I'm not a pro, but none of the dances I've seen even come close to the one I'm familiar with - Torvil & Dean's 1994 routine. (which I'm sure also has a lot of not Rhumba moves, but it's an ice dance routine) Viennese Waltz. Another one that can get too flail-y, too lift-y, and too much contemporary elements. (Ricky & Valeria's for example - the segment from 0:28-0:41 was very pretty and waltzy, and then for some reason the choreographer turned it into a contemporary dance, what the hell.) The last VW I like was Jakob & Mollee's.... six seasons ago! Foxtrot is too boring for this show.
  5. If Fatties Need Not Apply is one of the show's requirement, then maybe the producers/judges shouldn't even send her to Vegas, or at least not advance her past the "first day" of Vegas. The way they do it is kinda patronizing, much like chastising the guy who dances "too gay". Didn't they approve of his initial audition? Give the dancers their 15-min by airing their audition, then decline. "You're a good dancer but not what we're looking for, sorry." Or don't air it, whichever. The auditions have been kinda boring anyway, they should just cut to the chase and start with 2-3 episodes of Vegas round.
  6. Really? Sure, lifts are prominent in dances like disco and contemporary, but who's to say the women has to be small? Makenzie of S10 is not small, especially not when compared to Paul, and they managed just fine! (I'm biased, I love Paul.) Jose of S7 was casted despite his tiny stature, I think he's smaller than Lauren Gottlieb (whom he had to partner with in a contemporary dance) - pretty sure Nigel commented on the struggles with lifts etc, but hey, that didn't stop Nigel from advancing Jose to the live rounds, or stopped audience for voting him through the Top 5-6. And why can't choreographers choreograph around it? Just talk to Derek Hough on how he managed Amber Riley's plus size. ;) That said, there are many talented hip-hop girls this season, so I don't have a problem with Standing O being eliminated. She was a weaker dancer compared to them even if she's < size 6.
  7. Alex 'Outta Your Mind' Wong ruined it for the ballet dancers who came on after him. :p The producers were WAY too easy on Cyrus, for sure. Even Russell (the krumper who won S6) had to do more routines outside his wheelhouse than in, and he was way more well-rounded than all these animators that appear in later seasons.
  8. Is Suits renewed for Season 6? If yes, who cares if Daddy knows... as if USA has the kahunas to destroy P.S.L. It's about as threatening as Dexter being exposed by his colleagues.
  9. Lila aside, I they should have saved this season's plot for the finale. But I agree with Erik King when he said (paraphrasing) there's no way they could have Doakes being suspicious of Dexter for 6 more seasons. Although in hind sight, that would have been perfectly in line with Miami Metro's incompetence.
  10. If you like Velocity (the Chris Scott Matrix dance), let me introduce you to the Season 7 finale group dance Ra - which I though was better than Velocity. But I'm biased haha. Each of the Top 11 get their spotlight, even Alex Wong in a wheelchair. Love the ending pose where the Top 3 finalists being the ones left standing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tfhIm3nzeFw Also a favorite from season 7 - Fame, choreographed by Amanda & Wade Robson. I think the Chris Scott and the Robsons are better choreographers for group dances. Chris Scott especially, his choreo for partner dances are rather cringe-worthy.
  11. I'm so confused with this format. The Street team only had to learn hip-hop choreo? Stage had to learn contemporary, jazz and broadway? At least contemp and jazz are kinda same-ish, on this show at least. For live rounds, will the dancers have to do all kinds of dance styles or what?
  12. Oh goodness, where did you even find that video? I want more Hugh and his sarcastic puckered lips! "Then we're going to, in the meantime, slice our olives; and.... the other glove is in the driveway."
  13. Can they maybe speed up the pacing? Not saying it has to be action-packed, but they can create the mood and suspense without making everything snail mode. I don't understand why Bedelia and Will are such slow talkers. I miss Hannibal's weekly dinner parties.
  14. I thought the Louis+Donna restaurant scene was the best part (and perhaps the only good part) of the episode. Wonder if Donna could remain as Louis' secretary, while being in a relationship with Harvey outside of work. When will these adults start acting like actual adults goddamnit! Speaking of which, there's a noticable lack of "damn" in this episode. New writers?
  15. As strong as this runaway train has been, it's interesting that Sawyer didn't manage to hit the #1 spot with any songs this season. I guess the power of Swifty and Wiz were too much to overcome.
  16. Tessanne was alone in what? I don't know what you're trying to say.
  17. The winner tonight is the stage design team. Can I vote for them? I love those icicles on the piano.
  18. They have to do a "star-studded" finale because the contestants themselves don't bring enough ratings.
  19. It depends on what the musicians want out of a record deal. Christina Aguilera and Pink for example, didn't have much creative control in their first albums, but the "molded" albums launched them into superstars... and the girls used the stardom and sing the songs they want in their sophomore albums. Who knows how successful these two would have been without the initial propellant, molded or not. What was the reason behind Big Machine dropping CWB?
  20. I too prefer the older simple format. No instruments for auditions, no guitar, saxaphone or harmonica. Wasn't Hollywood week also acapella back then? I also like the semis round where it was just piano-only accompaniment, and a Wildcard round before Live shows. After that is do or die. None of these judges saves or twitter saves bullshit.
  21. I didn't even know AI was on last night, but had to download the episode based on this comment alone haha. I think a valet at the ball is more dressed-up than that. Nick was dressed like he's going to a casual matinee movie.
  22. Isn't that exactly what Keith said? That he kinda turned a stalker song into a love song. Perhaps the comment about creeper pedophile style is unfair. I don't really follow AI much anymore, the 1st time I saw Clark sang was on the song Yesterday (Beatles). Gosh! He turned a quiet melancholy song into some kind of diva anthem; and did so with that weird unfocused stares, along with a side of squinty scrunchy face. I was thinking, in Simon's words, "what the hell was that?" I also had been rewatching season 4 of Dexter at night, so the scene with Arthur + kid in jammies was fresh in my mind. I know the Arthur character was not a pedo, but that scene is creepy. Since I had not seen Clark before "Yesterday", I didn't know that's how his expressions are. I went on youtube for his AI videos, randomly picked 3 songs that are "different" from each other.... and started cracking up at how his face is the same on everything. From Sunday Morning to Make It Rain to It's a Man's Man's Man's World. I really missed S2 of Idol. The vocals aren't great except for 2-3 people, but the vibe is fun - at least the contestants are different enough from each other. S8 was kinda fun too, especially with class slown Matt Giraud impersonating Danny Gokey in the one of the clips. I guess what I missed the most is the "personalities" aspect of these shows? No staging, no production value, 1 piano(?).... still more memorable than most group songs on Voice -
  23. I hope Meghan and Blake's duet next week is Just A Fool. Not that I want anything mean-spirited from it (like haha Xtina has no one in the finals, so let's sing her song)... I just felt the song suited Meghan. That, and I'm not familiar with county duets so it's the only one that came to mind. Blake wouldn't even need to practice. It sucks that Christina won't get to sing with her team in the finals though. Bad dress aside, I thought her duet of The Prayer with Chris Mann was really really beautiful. Pharrell's duets will be.... "interesting". Can't wait to see how he woo-wut some song about Jesus. Not that they will ever top the utter ridiculousness of Spark The Fire.
  24. The week before semis was pretty good, at least for Nick. He had 2 great performances that night. Jax is a non-entity to me, as I automatically tuned out anything she does. There were no single episode where the overall performance average are "good and above", but there were some gems here and there. Normally I'm all over those multiple-instruments-playing musicians, but Clark doesn't do it for me for some reason. His stage persona comes across like a creepy pedophile to me. He has like 2 facial expressions... which I suppose is 1 more than Joshua Davis has lol. Not surprisingly, his performance of Every Breath You Take is the only one I liked.... it being a song about a stalker and all. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T6lxypi5qs0
  25. Is one of Sawyer's cows named Sara Lee? Haha, so cruel.
