  1. Nick is my favorite character in this show, by far. I like Dunne because he reminds me of Marc Maron physically, and I think he does a great job with this role. I like Nick because he's damaged due to circumstances that he didn't create and which were beyond his control, his life has been wrecked as a result, and he recognizes it and is trying to fix himself. And I identify with him because one of my nieces gave her son my middle name as his first name. That said, I think Cassidy would have done the research to know that he couldn't travel with the snow globes (after all, she talked him through Amazon, so I would assume she knew what he was making), and Kevin's perseverating over what the babies will call him made no sense to me. He's Uncle Nick to Kevin, he'll be Uncle Nick to his great-nephew and great-niece. Why wouldn't he be? And, because I tend to watch television without pity (good on you who get the reference), why did it not surprise me that Nick gave a 5-minute monologue to two infants - he's a Pearson before he's anything. Soliloquies are part of their DNA. Poor bastard literally couldn't sleep until he did.
  2. She said that they urinated twice - she probably purged it during her second one. How did Kat get Brigitte's email address in order to Ambien-email her? I was looking for cats more than paying close attention to the dialogue, but felt like the storyline didn't really wrap up - it seemed like Max was mad at her and then all of a sudden they were waving. Speaking of audience interaction, it's starting to feel like all of Kat's audience asides are finished during the first act, almost like they're getting them out of the way. She should shoot us some reactionary looks to things that the other characters do and say to keep us engaged. I want to sleep under a cat blanket. The closest I ever got was a good boy who insisted on cuddling against my chest when we went to bed. Every time I rolled over he'd jump over me so he could settle back against my chest. I still miss him. Cat Blanket - these guys get it:
  3. I locked up our cats when I Zoom interviewed, just to make sure that no one started yowling in the background. However, I'll cop to wearing sweatpants with a jacket and tie during. I guess the contrast with boxers was supposed to be funny...operative phrase being "supposed to be". The notion and result of Toby trying to covertly rock a cradle with a golf club while maintaining some degree of professionalism was about as realistic and predictable as the rest of Toby's story line. Who didn't see his dinner blowup coming (other than apparently oblivious Kevin)? And speaking of dinner - how good did that sushi and sashimi spread look. Tobes should have done some compartmentalizing for no other reason than just so everyone else could enjoy it. Also, I've gotten my share of rejection notices after an interview, but never via text. Is that the tech version of breaking up on a Post-it (©Berger)?
  4. I'm just watching to see how they wrap up Frank's storyline. I find myself caring increasingly less about the other characters with each ep. A lot of forcing one's will (or attempting to) on others in this one. Carl attempting to force the Plan B, I can understand, but it isn't Debbie's place, (or business) to force joint custody. Also, Lip attempting to force the sale by starting demo on the house - I'll chalk that up to frustration and desperation, but I hope that wasn't a load bearing wall. Too bad Fixer-Upper Building Owner Fiona isn't still around to advise on the renovation. That's all I've got, other than I'm not going to miss this show when it's "finale" over.
  5. That jumped right out at me (well, that and the lack of cats in this ep). Where did they put the trash dumpsters that the space was created for? Get back to your real reason for being, Show! To wit:
  6. Just ordered one for my GF's birthday. Thanks!
  7. Those were big ol' warm and fuzzy (i.e., manipulative) hugs to the viewer. Randall's Road To Damascus moment baptized away all the bitterness and anger that he had over the fight with Kevin and fortified him to "MMMBop" Madison through labor until Kevin finally arrived, thus securing his place as The Better Pearson™. Kevin received benediction from the angel Jack and now he (and we) can go forth knowing that he's gonna live up to the high child-rearing standards set by his stint as The Manny. And who among us didn't get a tummy tingle and an eyeball sting-le seeing St. Jack holding his grandkids?
  8. I thought at first that the hospital security guard and the fan were going to help Jack and Kevin respectively with their baby seats. My GF kept saying, "That's not a newborn", but she's more of a stickler than I am about that due to different life experiences; me never having had a baby, or attended a birth, and being a guy. Every time we watch any baby-birthin' scenes, they all seem to come out too large, heads too well shaped, and too clean. Madison went from a virtually helpless, scared, puddle of need in the last episode to take-charge, problem-solving, super woman in this one. I guess that happens automatically once you become a mom...
  9. I enjoyed this ep more than I have any of the previous ones, mainly because of Kat dancing on the bar. Looked like Mayim was actually enjoying that. Other thoughts: When Randi was wiping the table in the cafe', there were actual crumbs on it. Nice touch of realism. "Don't you ride those goats. Those goats aren't for riding. But we did." The skin around those Badass Kitty Gang tats would have been a lot more irritated, and they'd have had ointment and clear cellophane on them to protect against infection. Not a nice touch of realism, but understandable as it would have taken away from the design. As others have said, they should show the cast's names as each character waves goodbye (my second favorite part of the show). Even the laugh track is muted. Not that I mind; laugh tracks suck, but somewhere some wit is saying that it's reflective of the level of humor. I'm in for the duration, just for the kitties (my favorite part of the show).
  10. I read the same foreshadowing with that as mentioned below: Having had about enough of St. Jack, my cynical reaction to these comments was "Fewer than you think." and "Yes, it is." respectively. I said last week that a Pearson monologue was better than an epidural - almost put that one right over the fence, if I do say so myself. Randall was on his way to conducting one until Beth interrupted him. I was afraid that Rose wasn't going to make it; one candle goes out, three more are lit kind of thing would be consistent with this show. I'm glad the pigs worked. I totally loved the baby being named after Uncle Nick because my niece named her son after me (well, his first name is my middle name). Speaking of which, does anyone else see Griffin Dunne and think Marc Maron? Just me? Alllrighty...
  11. Speaking strictly for myself, would you let us all know if you can find it? I did a quick Google and found a way to watch Israeli TV that involved downloading an app, but I couldn't really find anything specific to Kvodo, and I'm curious to see it if it's not too complicated to do so - I've had good experiences with English shows that were adapted to American TV, and I think that, done well, this would be an entertaining and compelling story.
  12. I thought at first that Michael used the dog's medication when he poisoned the witness's water. The teacher/Adam affair I chalked up to topicality (there's a lot of that going around these days), and to create some tension in relation to his relationship with Fia. The grandmother's purpose seems to have been to spill the beans on Michael's wife's affair. All that being said, I agree with others who say there were episodes or plot lines that were cut after the fact. It's the most logical explanation for why there are so many unanswered questions, but (as others have also pointed out) it's really sloppy. I'm surprised that TPTB would have let this mish-mash edit go to air.
  13. Speaking of the rest of the way, does anyone know exactly how many more eps there are? Wiki says that this season is 12 but only lists 10, with this one being #6. That was exactly my take. He was good in Capone (Thomas Hardy movie) as Capone's son, as well. Clearly the writers have run out of ideas and fell back on the old Gender Role Reversal Trope™. Carl's never been the brightest bulb, but this wasn't his first time in the saddle (or being the horse, as the case may be), either. He should have been able to control the situation, and reporting himself just doesn't seem realistic. So the dementia that's been teased all season has finally come to pass. It'll be interesting to see what the Gallaghers do with Frank - no way they'll metaphorically leave him sitting on the sidewalk, not that he doesn't deserve it. Maybe Letty/Monica will take him in. He's always managed to punch above his weight class (frequently unrealistically so), and she's no exception.
  14. I'm going to sound like Grandpa Simpson yelling at a cloud here, but I've never liked that word and it's interesting to me that in this cancel culture, PC, Me Too, etc. environment it seems to be used more frequently these days (or maybe I'm just listening to the wrong podcasts or comedians). I wouldn't have expected it to pop up in this show, and it took me out of the moment when it did. Nothing to add that hasn't already been said about the ending, other than I knew Eugene had a gun but I didn't see him killing Adam. I guess Michael spending the rest of his life knowing that he caused caused his son to die choking on his own blood the same way that Rocco did is a fitting punishment, but that's about the only plot line that was resolved. Every one else's fate, including Michael's, is left up to the viewer to decide. Unsatisfying, indeed. Not going to miss this show at all.
  15. Greg needs to bend Katie over his lap and spank her like Ricky used to do to Lucy (can you imagine?). That would calm her down. Of course then the kids would be fatherless and they'd have to change the title of the show to American Housewife: Snapped. Hear, hear. Butters was better at the charming, quirky, deadpan personality that defined the character. At least initially.
  16. My GF pointed out to me last night that despite the apparent cast changes, Katy still has an African American, an Asian, and a gay person in her Second Breakfast Club (although the gender changed for the latter). My response was, "Good catch, Babe. But we need more Jim Rash." I'm glad he had a few more scenes in this ep. I still look at the new Ana-Kat and think of how the original one would have delivered her lines, though.
  17. It was just "the 5" when I lived there. We might have said "the 5 freeway" if we were giving someone directions or something. Coming from "back East", it took me a while to get used to that when I first moved there. I thought it was a West Coast thing.
  18. Nice attempt to misdirect, Show. Didn't believe for a second that Kevin had the accident - what, his wallet was thrown clear? Poor, abused Young Jack. When I was that age I was so eager to drive that I'd have paid for The Old Man's beers. Kevin must have some serious pull in Hollywood, with this cavalier attitude that he has towards his career. Didn't he blow off the premier party of another movie he was in a season or two ago? It seems like if this happened in real life there might be some legal action in his future. I get it; premature labor, twins, Madison has no one else in the entire world to get her through, and the deified shadow of Saint Jack looms large, but a contract is a contract. Maybe Kevin's rich enough to reimburse the producers for the lost shooting time and he'll name one of the kids De Niro to soothe Bobby's damaged ego. Newly enlightened, un-embittered Randall to the rescue. Pearson monologues are better than any epidural.
  19. D'oh! I confused the actress's name with the character. Thanks for the correction - 27 is still closer to 30 than 16. Indeed, seeing her in her schoolgirl outfit is like seeing Dylan McKay's senior year receding hairline. I couldn't help but think of Giuliani's press conference when they showed the drop of sweat dripping down Michael's face next week. Finally, a worthwhile cliff hanger ending - Jimmy knows the truth about Adam, we know Jimmy knows, and clueless Adam's off to the see the wizard.
  20. 4. Adam wakes up, walks into the bathroom, and sees Michael taking a shower: "Dad, you'll never believe the dream I just had..."
  21. I thought exactly the same thing, especially when Ian said, "You don't remember what happened last week?". I thought to myself, 'It was a lot longer ago than last week...' The Slaughter house plot line annoyed me so much that I actually looked up whether whether listing brokers in Illinois are obligated to disclose the history of stigmatized properties, including ghosts, violent crimes or death. Short version is they aren't, but if directly asked, they have to tell the truth. I'm not going to bother watching again, but I think the realtor obfuscated, if not outright lied about it when Tami was asking questions. I assume that we all knew that the donut box was going to have a turd in it. Frank should have put it in front of the Milkovich's front door, set it on fire, knocked, and ran. That would have completed that cliche'.
  22. I know I probably shouldn't be comparing this show to Miranda, but I do. I don't remember the details, but Miranda had a gym ep, which is why the plot was okay, but (as is generally the case) Miranda did a better job with the jokes and pratfalls; I remember some business with her in a ball pit that would have worked a lot better than vomiting. Another niggling (yes, I said niggling 😲 look it up) complaint - it wasn't natural that the reporter had to ask for his "cuppa" when he was settling in for the interview - as the host, Kat would have offered him something as soon he came in. But then we wouldn't have had the humor of her being sore-vous. Related: she made such a point of saying that her skirt was unbuttoned that I was expecting it to fall off - that would have been very Miranda. As a cat daddy, I tuned in for the cats and found Miranda from the discussion here. The one thing that holds it own with the original is the shop. They can't have enough cat stuff for me.
  23. Close. 29. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sofia_Black-D'Elia I don't think he will achieve greatness at all. Easily 50% of why I'm watching now is just to see what happens to him and Michael, especially Michael. This isn't going to end well for either of them, but (barring some completely unrealistic deus ex machina action) I think Michael is doomed. Adam will be lucky if he's just broken.
  24. I noticed that as well, and at least one time when Michael said something that was clearly a voice over that had to do with COVID or safety protocols. I thought, "Huh, they dropped that in after the fact." I think it was during a pan shot of the jury. I don't think Michael gained anything by not letting Helen Solloway, er, the prosecuting attorney, show the pictures of Kofi to the jury. Slamming her hand against the wall and the detailed description of how he died, e.g., concrete particles embedded in his skull, was probably more effective since it forced the jurors to use their imaginations. I still like this show, but I'm not going to miss it when it ends. I'm getting tired of Jimmy and his Manson Lamps™ (© Tony Soprano), and I've been over Adam and his drama for a while now. Did he really think he could blow off his teacher by lying about NYU and she'd never find out about it? Or that he and Frannie are going to live happily ever after? Kid's not grounded in reality.
  25. Bear with...Bear with...Bear with... Just finished the first ep of the second season. It's what I call, markedly superior to CMK. Bless Mayim's little heart, but she doesn't have the physicality or the chops that Miranda does, and the supporting cast is fine but not strong enough to cover for her. I'm not optimistic about the future of the show. Back to Miranda, I actually thought that Gary might have been written off. Glad that he came back. ...Done.
