  1. Where do I begin??? First, let me tell you a story. Yesterday I had to travel an hour away for the day ... I had to take my 91 year old mother and my 14 year old daughter to a conference, my daughter brought her bestie, who just turned 15. The girls wanted to play their One Direction CD in the car, so I obliged. As they were singing the lyrics to every song on the CD, my Mom blurted, why do they like this so much? There is no emotion to the lyrics and melody. I said to my Mom, it's the generation and what is cool for them today. So I started going backwards decades at a time to show her the common teenie bobber songs of each decade from 2010 on back as far as I could remember which was the 70's, which I ended up singing to her the lyrics to "I Think I Love You" and reminded her to remember the crush I had on Keith Partridge. Funny how that song was the one I remember as my fave from my teenage years, and I didn't even know about this forum yet! Yeah, The Partridges had some great songs.
  2. Ok, old and cliche, but Sam and Diane "Are you as turned on as I am?" - the beauty of that line is how it has been used in numerous other TV shows ... Frasier (Frasier and Julia), and most recently I was watching Better Off Ted (never saw that when it was running) and an older guy and Linda, OMG, I about busted a gut. My 14 year old daughter who is watching it with me was like, why is that so funny Mom, so I drug out the Sam and Diane clip to show her that this is where it originated.
  3. ABS - that was just wonderful to watch. WOW, didn't even need the dialog to know what was going on. Thank you!
  4. Ok! I did it ... it's not particularly clever or brilliant, but it's there!
  5. Sometimes there is difficulty in understanding British references, so this thread is for those times that there is confusion and there is a need to clarify meanings.
  6. I am 51, no comment necessary, but one thing I notice more than anything else is my capacity to forget stuff, like where my bluetooth is. When I am scrounging around my house looking for stuff, I will inevitably say out loud, there are three things I am doing, I am losing things, I am forgetting things, and then there is the third one. And this will make my daughter laugh each time, and that is what I live for. ::giggle::
  7. Oh my, I have been known in my household to binge watch Sports Night in one weekend. I am SO up to a re-watch if anyone is interested. My love for Peter Krause knows no bounds. ::giggle::
  8. So I never really got into the small talk thread over at the other place, since I was so late to the party, I kind of just live vicariously through the rest of you "cool kids". But since this is such a newly remodeled and decorated place, I feel like I am right on time. Looking forward to mingling with you all. One of my favorite threads over at the other place was the one where there were comparisons between American English and British English, I really hope someone starts that again because as much as I love British TV and Movies, I get stuck sometimes with the words.
  9. I wasn't really clear where to put this. Been enjoying the chatter in the Perry Mason forum, it's one of my silent guilty pleasures. I watch it when no one in the house is awake so that I can enjoy with no back talk. I was looking up something for my daughter the other day in regards to some of my favorite people that do impressions, and I found this: Raymond Burr on KopyKats! OMG, does anyone remember the show KopyKats? What a pleasure it is to see him laugh! Again, my apologies if this is in the wrong place, just getting familiar with the protocol here.
  10. Am I allowed to just say...YUM? ::giggle::
  11. More Donna love here. By far my favorite companion so far (only reserving judgment because I haven't seen all the Old Who yet). Thank you EC Amber for articulating why even though the ending of Doctor Donna was horrific, I was still ok with it. She was a powerful character but I always felt that she was a companion for a short time for a reason. I am reminded of that poem that says that people come into your life for a reason, or a season, or a lifetime. Donna was there for a reason: When someone is in your life for a REASON, it is usually to meet a need you have expressed. They have come to assist you through a difficulty; to provide you with guidance and support; to aid you physically, emotionally or spiritually. They may seem like a godsend, and they are. They are there for the reason you need them to be. There are so many reasons Donna was there with the Doctor for a short time...
  12. And I join in, but no beer here ... coconut rum instead, but still, raising my glass.
  13. I remember actually being angry and almost refusing to watch the opening episode with Kirstie. Boy, am I glad I reconsidered. It's almost as if we had two separate series and both had their great points. It's hard to choose between the two. I love and not so much love both at times. I am also a Fraiser fan and found it interesting the Shelly reprised her role in that series and Kirstie didn't. Gives a little more points to Shelly in my book.
  14. Just ignore this post. ::giggle::
  15. Yeah, I knew it would be hard. ::giggle:: Father's Day! What a great episode! Another thing I loved about Nine was how he thouroughly enjoyed showing Rose his world. To me it was as if all the things Rose was seeing for the first time, Nine was seeing it for the first time too. What a Zen thing to do, the whole beginners mind thing.
  16. Ok, so let's talk about our fave episode with Nine ... oh, that is so hard to pin down because all of his episodes are awesome. But if I had to narrow it down, the arc of The Empty Child and The Doctor Dances (just like tarotx) have got to be some of the best Who writing ever. Just this once, Everybody Lives! Who can resist that smile?
  17. My first, and so far still my favorite Doctor. I love that the first season of the reboot was cheesy, and under funded so that the stories mattered, and not flashy television. I love all that I have seen so far, Old and New Who, but Nine made me understand the Doctor, so he holds a special place in my heart.
  18. I am in the camp of love for River. But I also love it that she just pops up for short story lines every now and then. I would love to see her pop up with Capaldi, that would be interesting.
  19. Rose and Nine were great together, didn't so much enjoy Rose and Ten too much. Having a teenage daughter, I can see through her (and her friends) eyes the shipping attraction of Ten and Rose. Me, that is what I didn't like about Ten and Rose.
  20. The pleats lost me as well, but I find that I am taken with the costume. Love the red lining...
  21. Great topic! Thanks for starting it. My first Doctor was Nine, and so far he continues to be my favorite. I guess first loves and all...HA! I was introduced to the Doctor about three years ago by my daughter, who was then only 12 years old. Thank goodness for Netflix as I have been able to catch up with some Old Who. If I had to pick my fave for that era it would be Five. Companions? Donna, hands down. The story arc for her was some of the best darn writing for Who I have seen so far. Old Who? Hmmmm, my fave story so far for Old Who is The Caves of Androzani, so Peri would be up there, but only because I haven't met too many others yet, so reserving judgement on that one. All that being said, I haven't yet been disappointed with any doctor or companion. What a fabulous series that at one point or another, past or present, there will be something for someone to like.
  22. Hello All, just marking my spot, claiming my space in this new area. Long time lurker over at TWOP, very limited poster, however, hoping to change that habit since I seem to have been blessed with getting in at the start of this new place to call my Who home. I was turned on to the Doctor by my then 12 year old daughter (now 15) and my first Doctor was Nine, and to this day he is the one I love best of the New Who. I have been watching older episodes as they are available on Netflix, and have to say that Five is my fave of the Old Who - something about Peter Davison that hits me just right. Looking forward to making new friends!
  23. Awesome to be at the start of a great new place to call home for fans of Sherlock. Looking forward to making new friends and watching this unfold. Thanks to TPTB for making such an awesome and friendly space for us.
