  1. I REALLY had a problem with Sister Mary Beth pulling Christie and Stacy aside to ask them about Eseni and whether she had a boyfriend. She shouldn't have put them in the position to have to gossip or betray confidences. Since she overheard Eseni talking about Darnell the night before, why didn't she just ask Eseni directly? She complains that the girls are immature but them doesn't treat them with the respect due to adults. Also: I just really can not stand Claire. Not one little bit.
  2. Very interesting article about the show: http://ncronline.org/blogs/ncr-today/sisterhood-becoming-nuns-more-reality-reality
  3. I agree with you, littledog. By the way, "In This House of Brede" by Rumer Godden is my favorite book of all time. I have to confess (no pun intended) that I have read it at least 20 times. If you liked the Diana Rigg movie, you will LOVE the book, which is way better than the movie. The characters are unforgettable and totally real.
  4. It's official: I love, love, LOVE this show! The sisters are great - smart, funny, down to earth. LOVED the gentle smack down of Claire by the sister, and the group smack down by the rest of the girls. No surprise that Eseni and Francesca were pissed, but I loved the fact that Stacy and Christie also got on board. I think Claire was honestly clueless, not that that's an excuse. I'm liking little Francesca more by the minute. I don't see her as fragile at all, in fact rather tough and gutsy. Yes, she's emotional but she's also only 21 years old. As for her speaking to her mother every day, many adult women who are close to their moms do that their whole lives. I don't think that means anything at all. Also loved the Holy Cow. Now that's my kind of shrine!
  5. Wow! Francesca just became my new favorite! Kudos to her for her smack down of Claire. Also, she seems very bright and well-spoken and actually quite mature for 21. You go, girl!
  6. Claire's sister said that Claire told her two years ago that Jesus had proposed to her, and how could she refuse? So why did she wait two years until a reality show came along?
  7. For anyone interested, here is some info on the first convent featured on the show. It explains the various stages the women go through on the way to becoming nuns. http://www.carmelitesisters.com/stages-of-formation.htm#.VH4wBkc8KrU
  8. I certainly wasn't faulting the nuns for how they are coming across, just noting that it supports the idea that this isn't reality. I think the women will be going to three convents, not six. Still not much time at each.
  9. Yes, there's a pre-novice, pre-postulant stage when women first enter. They are called candidates at that stage, and that period may last as long as a year or two. Some orders let women come and stay for a week or so before electing to enter as a candidate. Some call this a "come and see" week.
  10. Wow, Elizabeth sure did a 180 on Russell in about 10 seconds flat. That seemed just a little sketchy.
  11. "So I feel a bit cynical about our group. Why would you even agree to have such a profoundly personal experience be filmed for a reality tv show in the first place? And whose first reaction at seeing the convent was "Oh My God!" I bet there aren't many nuns or postulants tossing out OMG's. (Call me Judgy Candall now.) "This looks suspiciously like Fox's big stinkbomb, Utopia, i.e. the producers didn't have enough (faith!) confidence in their original premise to believe viewers would find genuine participants interesting, so they loaded the dice with reality show wannabes to guarantee some drama." I agree, Candall. For one thing, the behavior of the nuns is far too tentative and apologetic to be real. If cell phones and makeup are not allowed, just say so and make it happen. The nuns act like they know these are just actors/visitors and they don't want to come off sounding too authoritative. I also wouldn't be surprised if there's a twist or two planned, such as preachy Claire dropping out and one of the other less obvious ones finding a niche. Add me to those who question why the convents would allow this. I do know that there's been a steep decline in candidates for religious life. Maybe the convents felt this was a good opportunity to showcase what they have to offer and reach a wider audience. Good luck with that!
  12. I love the scene where Kramer and Micky have a double date with two women they've never met before, and fight about who gets to sit next to whom. And I second the nomination of the library cop episode. I love Mr. Bookman's rant, and I especially love the fact that Jerry can't keep a straight face during it. Frank Costanza explaining bra sizes to George, and getting ketchup on Estelle's bra in the process. And, of course, Frank and Kramer trying out the "bro."
  13. I'll watch anything with Janene Garafolo in it, so I'll give this a shot.
  14. Claire reminds me a lot of a friend of mine who entered a convent a few years ago. Very religious, very into Jesus, single, celibate, so happy to be taking this step. She lasted two months.
  15. "Don't cry for me, Sargentina." BWAA!
  16. My money is on Bonnie for the murderer of Sam.
  17. All hail the return of The Chair!
  18. "His mudder was a mudder." Don't ask me why, but this makes me cry with laughter.
  19. Mr. Tom and I do the "YOU'RE Schmoopie!" routine when being lovey-dove, and "YOU'RE a baby!" when bickering. "Mother Nature is a MAD scientist!" "I had a pony!" "I have lost my fiancée!" "Sex.... to SAVE the friendship!" Sponge-worthy "Why don't you just TELL me (the name of the movie you want to see)?
  20. Ghoulina, love the typo in the first line of your second paragraph!
  21. I have to say (probably a minority position) I really feel sorry for Tori. She is so terribly needy and insecure, and I suspect her "poor little rich girl" upbringing did her no favors. I find Dean very unappealing, but even the best partner in the world can't "make" you happy when you have so much misery and self-loathing inside. God help those kids!
  22. "No guns for foil" was the best line of the night!
  23. I love Nolan, but he has GOT to stop with the whispering. It's driving me nuts.
