  1. I have no doubt the whole thing was cooked up by Fleiss, et al. Maybe it wasn't their original plan, but somewhere along the way it became clear that Kaitlyn had no interest in any of these lunkheads as future husbands (cause . . . who would, really?) and so he switched gears. He knows it will end up getting the show way more attention and press than if she had chosen someone and broke up with him in a few months. Plus, this has happened on The Bachelor, but it's never happened on The Bachelorette. So it would be a first and you know he'll make hay out of that. Actually, it's kinda a smart way to shake things up.
  2. Wow, guys. We're only on page 1 and I've already had to edit and delete several posts. I guess this Kaitlyn/Britt thing is going to be more divisive than I thought. So, reminders: 1) You may like one girl and hate the other, but please state such opinions civilly without disparaging people who disagree. That includes remarks like "Were we watching the same show?" or calling posters out for they way they are criticizing a contestant. That's not your place. This board is about snark. It's what we do. You have to expect that both girls are going to get their share of it. 2) If you are spoiled about who gets chosen please be very careful not to say anything here that might give it away, even accidentally. I will delete or edit any such posts and may hand out warnings as appropriate. 3) Yes, there is an "Ignore" function on all of the PTV boards. This allows you to not see posts from selected posters. Go here for info on how to make that happen. Please don't discuss the feature or ask "do we have one?" on the boards. If you have any specific question about how to use it, please IM me or one of the other mods (Bella, OnceSane) directly. Thank you.
  3. Back to specific religious issues related to the Duggars, please. Thanks.
  4. Well, she doesn't exactly have any different role model to emulate. It's all she knows.
  5. Just to piggyback on what Bella said, we're not saying the topic of Derrick's employment can never be mentioned again. But there's no need to do so unless and until further evidence is uncovered as to what his situation is. At the moment we just don't have enough concrete information to base a conclusion on, which leads to endless speculation. Thanks.
  6. Please take any further discussion about how Jill and Derick plan to raise their baby to the Jerick thread unless it is directly and intricately related to Michelle and Jim Bob's influence. I've moved a couple of posts there. Thanks.
  7. Let's move off the Jill/Kate comparisons and discussion. There's really nothing more to add here. Unless and until Jilly Muffin decides to give Kate advice on raising Princess Charlotte, of course :-)
  8. I appreciate it. The previous conversation is now here: http://forums.previously.tv/topic/23120-michelle-and-jimbob-aka-jchelle-and-boob/page-23#entry1091702
  9. Please take extensive talk about Josie's lactose intolerance (or lack thereof) to either the Michelle and Jim Bob thread or the Other Kids thread, please. Thank you. It's ok to mention it briefly as a possible background for something related to Iz (although, there is no evidence of any feeding problem with him at the moment), but should not be the majority or whole of your post. I've moved a few posts on the topic to the Michelle and JimBob thread.
  10. Hee! I was going to post about her adoring look at him, but you nailed it so my work here is done.
  11. Giving your choices for baby names is fine. Discussing the popularity and history of particular baby names and how they are spelled is probably off topic, so let's avoid that, OK? As for speculating that she's having twins based on her size, I confess I'm not a huge fan of that because of the icky implications of "oh my gosh she's soooooo big; only fat cows would be that big at this point of pregnancy, unless she's having twins." It's just . . . gross and not necessary. The last people who need to be fat-shamed are pregnant women. Besides, all we have to go on is photos which can be deceiving. I'm not necessarily banning this topic, just asking us to be sure we're keeping it in the realm of "speculation," not certainty based upon your experience, ok? That would make me less queasy. Thanks.
  12. As someone deep on the inside of a church I can assure you that this is NOT typical. Not saying it never happens, obviously. But we shouldn't assume that every ministry position has these kinds of perks. Most full-time ministers I know are barely making it, unless they pastor a really large church with lots of money. So, just saying, it's not like you could go into ministry COUNTING on this kind of lifestyle. Unless you were stupid. Which Bin is. So . . . nevermind.
  13. Ok guys, I'm back. I have gone through and deleted or snipped the posts on the contentious missionary topic. What FT said in her mod post (which, AHEM, a number of people did not adhere to) is absolutely correct and should put an end to any discussion on that topic here. If you MUST talk about what missionaries do, go to the Religion thread. But I'll be keeping a close eye on that as well. So . . . from here forward NO posting your opinions on what Derrick did or didn't do as a missionary or what missionaries do or don't do in general. And CERTAINLY nothing more along the lines of "all missionaries are evil imperalists." As I tell my students, any statement that contains the words, "all," "always," "never," and "none" is most often a vast over generalization. The real world is not that neat and tidy. I will start handing out warnings and possible suspensions for those who can't let it go. Thanks.
  14. Ooookay, guys. I just spent more than 30 minutes going through all posts from yesterday and today. I deleted or edited a LOT of posts that were off topic. 1) Just general discussion of childbirth or telling your own childbirth stories is OFF TOPIC!!! If you want to discuss that or swap C-section horror stories, head to the Small Talk thread and go to town. This is my second time saying this, so I will now start handing out suspensions to people who can't figure this out. 2) I think we should wind down the birthing discussion altogether. It was 10 days ago, guys. You've hashed out every possible side of her ordeal that you can (and frankly have discovered some that no one else even knew were there). It's old news; unless you have something NEW to say (and I do mean NEW--as in, not something 14 other people have already said in different words) there's no need to keep beating that dead horse. Plus I'm getting real tired of reading about it. I will delete any future posts on this topic on site and possibly hand out warnings. 3) I have to concur with msblossom about the PPD discussion. I know no one really specifically "diagnosed" Jill with PPD but some of the speculation comes pretty darn close, and eventually it morphs into "yeah, she probably has PPD." Unless you're a psychologist who has specifically examined Jill (which seems unlikely) then STOP WITH THE PLAYING DOCTOR. Thank you. Yes, I'm cranky tonight. You've been warned.
  15. Friendly note from your mod: I just deleted or edited several posts that were off-topic dealing with the junior clothing sizes at a department store. Seriously off-topic, guys. Keep it specifically about the show or the people not about your particular clothes shopping preferences. Thanks.
  16. Ben was born in 1995?!?!?! I need to lie down now while my 19 year old son (born in 1996) fans me with the brochures from the college he just enrolled in for the Fall. Geez. And I vote WeeWald for the baby nickname. Hee!
  17. Point of order: I just adjusted the name of this thread to add Baby Izzy to the fun. Cause why not? As you were.
  18. Oooookaaaay. This has been REAL fun and all, but maybe let's stop micro-analyzing every single detail of the birth, especially the things that we just don't know about. That becomes wild speculation and eventually devolves into everyone just sharing their own birth stories. Which is never as much fun for everyone else as it is for you. Sorry, but it's true. So can we try to only talk about actual things we know that have happened, that they have done, etc or things that happen on upcoming episodes? Oh and things they say in the media are fair game. But just debating different types of births and birthing complications and the merits of birth plans is really off topic. In fact, if you don't have something to say that hasn't been said several times already by someone, then maybe take a break from posting for a while. Get off the computer and go outside. Shoo!
  19. There is nothing in that article that says she didn't have pain meds once she went into surgery. Yeah, is that a thing that's even allowed? Or done? I wouldn't think so normally. I have a relative who is an anesthesiologist and I heard him tell a story once of a woman being prepped for a C-section when the baby basically coded inside her and they had to get him out immediately or he would die and they did basically cut her open before the spinal block had kicked in (which, someone give that lady a medal!) but I assume that only happens in cases of extreme emergency. (Or if you're in the zombie apocalypse and there's no other way to get the kid out . . . .)
  20. Thank you all for being, for the most part, very respectful during the recent discussion here on religious beliefs about homosexual marriage. I do feel like that the large majority of people who post here (some who are religious and some who are not) are very tolerant of others not sharing their beliefs and often are happy to hear from someone with a different perspective. That's why I often let these topics be discussed whereas other threads might be tempted to just shut them down at the first mention of a controversial topic. I prefer to think we are all adults, intelligent and well-educated for the most part, who are capable of discussing complex issues without resorting to the kind of behavior you see in the comments section of every internet site, and for the most part you all have not disappointed me. I appreciate that. :-) Having said all that. Let's drop the homosexual marriage discussion for the time being, ok? Actually it has basically died down on its own, but let's not start it up again unless and until something directly related to it happens on the show or with the Duggars. Thank you all for being awesome.
  21. Ok, we get it. Hospital floors are dirty. D & J are weird and gross for not wearing any shoes. (But they're always weird and gross so what's new?) We would all wear shoes in such situations, and some hospitals require that as standard protocol. I think that covers the topic. No more need to exclaim over it. Let's move on, ok? If you want to say "Yes, I agree with your statement" you can use the "like" button rather than posting the exact same thought just in different words.
  22. Ok, all. Hi, I'm here. 1) I've moved the discussion of gay marriage and/or divorce and religious opinions thereon to the religion thread. You can continue the discussion there, but only as long as it is respectful and not hate-filled. 2) Please cease and desist with the chicken pox/shingles conversation. It's not directly relevant to anything we've seen on the show so far and I'm not sure there's anything else to say anyway. 3) Most importantly: Do we know who won the baby pool?
  23. Many people have commented here that they find the name "Israel" strange for a Christian family to use, but it didn't surprise me at all when I heard that was the name. Israel David is not only them saying, "Look how holy and devout we are," but more importantly it screams "look what perfect paragons of fundamentalism we are." Christian Fundamentalism has a deep and abiding love of the nation of Israel and believes they can do not wrong since they are "God's chosen people." Honestly I've known Christian fundamentalists who were more Zionist than any Jew I've ever met. So, yeah, that name is definitely meant to send a message. It's a dog whistle to other fundamentalists.
  24. I'm not a medical professional but I know from my experience of 3 C-sections and countless surgeries with my first child to repair a congential birth defect that it is standard for them to automatically put the IV needles in for patients who they anticipate possibly having to do surgery on, even if the needles are not delivering medicine. It's so they can have "emergency access" if you code out or something goes wrong really fast and they don't have time to put in an IV line.
  25. Wow. If she's been bullied for being "fat" it's just as well I never ran into any of those people. They'd probably stone me. Catherine is "fat"? Seriously, what is WRONG with people? Plus, so what if she is?
