Season 17: Last Chance Kitchen and What Would Tom Do?
catrice2 replied to SailorGirl's topic in Top Chef
No surprises, although I don't like this twist. Why have the active chefs come in to try an keep him out? The rest of us knew there was no way that they didn't bring Kevin back....and why did he get to choose who to cook against? -
Looks like Gregory is in trouble again next week.....oh no. I am going to be sad if he doesn't make top 3.
-
I am nervous for Gregory...and I do not like Last Chance Kitchen.

Yes really the stabbing of Nico is one of the final things that made me inch closer to the door...and I was one of the biggest fans the first season. After the whole kidnapping and plastic bag thing and after Eve killed someone and all but admitted to V her sexual interest...why bother to wound him? It is clear Eve doesn't care about him so what is the point? He has been wounded enough by being in a relationship with her. If this is "dark" humor it is dark humor we could have done without.

I am right behind you. I am with the other poster, I did not focus enough to figure out what was happening last episode, and I have no interest in going back to find out. I just came here to have it confirmed for me. I saw bits and pieces and those were extremely boring to me. The show was best when Eve was hunting V especially after the emotional loss of Bill. When they started with the sexual tension and Eve's bungling field adventures it took a turn....and has never recovered. I barely remember last season....Have they even shown Eve dealing with the fact that she killed that man even though V manipulated her into it? Or does the show end with them happily together and killing people? At this point their is no redemption for V so the only thing would be to make Eve like her so that she can accept her actions.. Imagine if they had written a show with the core group still together and hunting V? Bill was interesting, as was Kenny and Kirby Howell. Eve could have just as easily been a single spinster with nothing but a cat...Nico wasn't needed to just make his character so pointless. I actually like Nico...he is too good for Eve...of course without the needed backstory I can only go by what I saw..

Nothing. That's just the problem. He was a bland husband with nothing to do. He actually was very nice and patient with Eve and she was frustrated with him because she was realizing her life was unfulfilled. People resent the air time he gets because they never gave him a story. Other people just want Eve and V together so much they find him annoying. It is just that they give screen time to a character that has no real purpose. The fact that he is an unattractive boy next door type doesn't help. I say all this and I am not one that minds Nico, ha ha I think they keep him around as sort of a tie to her old life for Eve before she totally goes over to the "dark" side.

I am trying to watch the latest Aurora Teagarden and realized I've missed several. What happened to Harvey? I think the name is wrong, but he was the weird younger guy that used to be in the Real Murders club. I thought they brought the writer back as her love interest after Martin left? What happened to the older black man that was in the club?
-
I thought the same thing.....or it is someone else who they underestimated.

So it was Stephanie that was middle of the road? I mostly forget the episode after I watch.. I am just hoping Gregory makes it to Europe. Will it be the final 5, 3 or 4 that go overseas?
-
I don't eat eggs so.....no big deal to me! I realized that if and when Gregory goes I am going to feel sad! I am secretly hoping for Stephanie to make it to at least the top 4. My top four at this point would be Melissa, Stephanie,Gregory and BV. Oh, I hate Last Chance Kitchen...I think once you go you should be out!!! I really liked the idea of Gregory's spiced salad and liked his dish more with the spinach instead of the eggs. So was BM just middle of the road? He was not in the bottom, but not in the top?

I think it depends on whether or not you are trying to send a message to someone else or not. There are different types of assassins

I guess I missed the plantation comment. I just think the concept seemed complicated but they were ready to embrace it because he had opened SEVERAL successful restaurants. Nothing that he said about it made me feel like it was something needed in the market, and even though he kept harping on the "family style" it seemed formal. I have never (and I would gather most people have not) had canapes when I went to my grandmother's house.....

Pretty much sums up how I feel. The first season was must see tv for me, the second less excited and this episode I was bored from start to well I can't say finish because I didn't finish! I thought it was just me

Count me as one who is disappointed that the J. Edgar story ended the way it did. I think the daughter is just unnecessary. I wondered if they plan to continue something about the partner into the next season. I just feel she was somehow complicit in something and wanted to confess it. I am also getting women confused. Wasn't there another woman that Bosch had live at his house and she killed herself, or is this the same one? I knew it was the wife when they first found her "tied up" at the house. I really love this show and was upset that the daughter ruined the chief's chance....but happy that he got married again...even though I wish he had stayed with his wife

I've been there....like the time my best friend and I discussed how much I love a good lasagna and I had been vegetarian since were were in elementary school and my husband and I went to visit and she had made me an extra meat one! I ate as much as I could and was sick in the bathroom all night... I think your idea is a great challenge. Seems like they did that on a different show..if not, they should!

In other words he is doing relatively o.k.? Financially is not the only way to be doing well. He has the respect of his peers.

Last week they showed previews of Gregory's team going rather smoothly and the other team not. I was worried that it was a fakeout. Although both teams had problems, the preview was fairly accurate about who was struggling. I just think Gregory did a better job of making sure everyone understood his vision and for the most part he seemed to be super supportive and calm and thankful. I am sure Kevin was too, it just wasn't edited that way.
-
Maybe they are, but I think it is difficult to think anyone is mediocre at this point. Editing, etc. plays so much as does just someone having a bad day, or someone just having a better day. I think they are all talented in their own way and maybe even in their own specialty. I think time constraints and little "twists" make everything super complicated and some are not able to execute or handle change as well as others.

I'm always interested in chefs like Kevin and both Brian/Bryan?'s who come back after being on here once, or multiple times. All three have successful restaurants and have benefited from being on television and gaining exposure. Do they really need the title of being Top Chef? Hasn't Spike? ( I think that is who I am thinking of) done relatively well? I think he came back once ( that I can remember) but at some point don't you think you stop chasing the title? For those that are private chefs or don't have their own restaurants or are trying to open one I get it, for the others I don't. A lot of the "Top Chefs" have gone on to fail at opening their restaurants so what does it mean? Some of them maybe should not have even opened one. Is that the only measure of how great a chef you are?

I eat crow. I said it would not be Kevin....and I was wrong! I don't think, however, there is any way they won't let him "fight back" from Last Chance kitchen. C

Maybe it has been said before but am I missing something? They find out that Singh is not Singh, but they leave Joe in "protective" custody where the not real Singh and his boss know exactly where he is? Barry moved Joe and I missed it? The problem with these crossover shows is that it makes not sense for any of them not to call for help when they have all these "friends."
-
This is funny because I felt like he was trying to get close to her so that HE could get into the medicine...and that she seemed suspicious at the end? Is he the same one that was complaining in the other episode that things seemed to come easy for one of the other doctors?
-
I can't think of too many people that I would be excited or nervous to see or speak to and no one on a reality show makes that list. There are plenty of great chefs in our local restaurants, hey just haven't been on television. I personally think that Bryan is just as confident as his brother Michael I just think they chose different paths in life and have different personalities. Maybe Michael is an introvert with people he doesn't know, or didn't want to play to the camera. Some people are also just very blunt in their delivery. Not everyone is the same. The thing about "reality" shows is that they can be edited to make people look a certain way, and people are only as good as they were that day. That day, in the eyes of the judges Michael was the better chef. I am rarely happy with the winners of competition shows. Running a profitable restaurant is hard. Most restaurants and night clubs have a short life span. 5 years is an accomplishment, 10 or more amazing.

That is what worries me....the edits are always purposefully misleading, so while it looks like Gregory and his team are confident it usually tends to be the opposite....ugh...
