  1. And in the real world, now that more attention is being paid to her, Jodie is showing she's not just a dramatic and emotional actor who's great at crying up a storm a la Broadchurch. Whether in front of the camera or in BTS stuff, she's showing what a goofball she really is
  2. Why is the Doctor always a British-sounding person and sticking around Britain so much? Cause it's a British show. Same reason there will be a non-white Doctor someday (probably Black male for 14). But in-show, the easy explanation is that there are Black Gallifrey people shown already and any other ethnicity that's not represented on Gallifrey could just be the result of influence by the humans the Doctor hangs around. After all, 12 thinks his face was influenced by a Roman he saved at Pompeii. I'm not sure the Doctor really knows how his/her next bodies are selected. They've been only white males up til now because of real societal reasons. As I've said before, if the show was only starting recently and the current rules set down, there likely would be men and women and a variety of ethnicities playing the part Truthfully, now that the logjam of only white male actors as the Doctor has been broken, there will now be a variety of talented actors playing the part (British only though!) and that's never a bad thing (as long as the show continues to tell a good story)
  3. The ratings and higher interest from media and fans suggest this season reinvigorated the show. One could say that it was Capaldi's Doctor that hurt the franchise by being too unlikeable and the plots too complex. Heck, some posters were saying Capaldi's era was no longer Doctor Who in some of the episode topic discussions. There always seems to be some controversy about the franchise. It seems to be doing fine for now
  4. Moreso, real world considerations and biases
  5. The Doctor, not Eric, wrote those words for the team before they went into the AntiZone. She claimed for Hanne’s sake that she was drawing a map The words were something like “Assume her dad is dead. Keep her safe. Find someone to take care of her”
  6. https://twitter.com/iamryanaplin/status/1083705385356324864?s=20 Per a tweet, here are the commentaries on the Series 11 DVD/Blu ray set (not sure if only one or the other or both and not sure if true outside of U.K.) S11 Commentaries: TWWFTE - Jodie and Jamie Childs (dir.) Rosa - Malorie Blackman (co-wri.), Mandip & Alex Mercer (prod.) Tsuranga - Mandip, Ben Bailey-Smith (Durkas), Susan Packer (Eve), Nikki Wilson (prod.) 7. The Doctor Who Series 11 soundtrack, released today or at midnight, is currently #7 on the Itunes US Top Albums list
  8. Reminder: The Series 11 soundtrack is out today, including on iTunes and streaming services
  9. The final consolidated BBC ratings for the episode was 6.95 million. That’s below the last Christmas episode that was also a regeneration episode and the previous non-regeneration Christmas episode, so I don’t know if the BBC will consider returning to Christmas specials or has reasons to stick to New Year’s Day. I also don’t know what the ratings in general were like this past Christmas compared to New Year’s a week later
  10. The BBC writer’s room has made the script for the episode available http://downloads.bbc.co.uk/writersroom/scripts/DW11-EP1-The-Woman-Who-Fell-to-Earth.pdf It’s in PDF form
  11. But he then talked to “Bill” and “Nardole” and seemed to still be really down about continuing on
  12. On watching this and rewatching it, I see no explanation for what changed 12’s mind about regenerating. He went from talking to Bill and Nardole about wanting to finally rest and life being an endless battlefield to being in the Tardis and being ready and giving a speech of hope to his next incarnation
  13. Thanks! I kept thinking on rewatches it could be him, but I wasn’t sure. He’s certainly got the voice for it
  14. https://www.nationaltvawards.com/index.php/ Doctor Who and Jodie Whittaker have been nominated for Britain’s National Television Awards 2019, DW for Best Drama and Jodie for Best Actor in a Drama. Apparently voted by the fans and the ceremony will be Jan 22. It appears the last time the show or lead was nominated was the Matt Smith era
  15. The schedule, per another forum https://www.doctorwho.tv/watch/twitch/
  16. I didn’t realize until a few weeks ago that Arthur Darvill, who I knew played Rip Hunter in Legends of Tomorrow, was the same guy playing the priest in Broadchurch (which I binge watched during Series 11) and the the same guy playing Rory in the one Doctor Who episode I’ve seen him in In another sighting, Freema Agyeman, who played Martha Jones, is a doctor in the NBC series New Amsterdam
  17. From what I’ve read, at least until the end of the month
  18. A couple of things I noticed about Graham in this special. Even though he was a little short with Aaron when he showed up, he did bring out Aaron's childhood things that Grace had kept and shared them with Aaron. He showed a lot of understanding towards Aaron in that scene. I do wonder if Aaron's drifting through life is due at least in part to mental illness, like depression. He clearly can't seem to cope with life. It sounds like he couldn't cope with his wife's death and in this special, he made it clear he couldn't cope with his mom's death either The other thing about Graham is he seemed quite annoyed at various times, including when he and Aaron were left behind when the Tardis took off after the Dalek and when he called the Doctor to come pick him up
  19. I presume they mean the cast starts filming, as pre-production started around November last year
  20. That was my initial thought, but it sounds like the narrator has an additional accent besides the British one
  21. I haven't watched that much of Doctor Who (I've watched the Capaldi era, Whittaker's first series, Series 1, and I'm currently on Series 2 with Tennent), so I may be missing something, but I don't understand why Capaldi's Doctor would become such a misanthrope and lack such an understanding of humans after being more warm and understanding about them with at least the two previous doctors. I understand that the personalities can be very different from one incarnation to another, but it's like #12 regressed or something. Given that the Doctor's memories are passed from body to body, I don't understand why it seemed like #12 forgot how to be around other people. If it was the result of PTSD or something because of surviving past his last regeneration and getting a new set, that didn't seemed to really be explained well or at all. It's like the showrunner just wanted to play with the Doctor getting real alien-y again and not worrying about it making sense
  22. Does anyone know the name of the narrator of the opening and closing sequences?
  23. Guest actor Charlotte Ritchie did a really nice job as Lin. The guy playing Mitch was more sidelined but he was still helpful
