  1. This article says there is a 1 minute window. I can't imagine being able to put together an inquiry in that amount of time. But if that's the rules... https://apnews.com/article/2024-olympics-paris-gymnastics-4004ae4869ac2eafbb89b68ee5966110
  2. One of the announcers said they had just talked to Carl Lewis, who is furious: https://bleacherreport.com/articles/10131339-carl-lewis-furious-over-usa-dq-in-mens-4x100m-relay-at-olympics-after-lyles-exit
  3. And the men just blew it. It was like they've never run a relay before.
  4. Adrenaline will do that to you.
  5. I was at the 1996 woman's semi final match between Cuba and Brazil (Cuba won in 5 and later beat China for the gold). Let me tell you there was no love lost between those 2 teams, and they actually came to blows at the end of the match. Good times.
  6. I posted about this in the General Discussion thread: I'll bet NBC will show it in the prime time show.
  7. US Men's team beat Brazil to advance to the semifinals where they will play Poland. US Women's team beat Poland to advance to the semifinals where they will play Brazil.
  8. The medals for the 2022(!) Olympic Figure Skating team event will FINALLY be awarded - US gold, Japan silver. Unfortunately (IMO) Russia will still get bronze instead of the more deserving Canada, but no Russian athletes will be at the ceremony. The ceremony will be Wednesday, Aug. 7 at 11 a.m. ET on Peacock and USA Network https://www.usfigureskating.org/news/article/2022-olympic-team-event-medal-ceremony https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/columnist/brennan/2024/08/06/us-figure-skaters-olympics-gold-medals-eiffel-tower/74686261007/
  9. 11. What, did someone spread butter on the beam? So many falls! 🥲
  12. There are competitions, judges, athleticism, rules, skills, training.... SPORT.
  13. How is this NOT a sport?
  14. These are ATHLETES. The sport requires athleticism, training and skill. Just watch one routine and when the swimmers go underwater hold your breath and just TRY to keep it until they surface.

  17. If anyone wants to see the bout where the Italian boxer Carini abandoned the fight, it's currently on Peacock in the boxing section, labeled "W Fly Welter (R16) & More" at about 1 hr 29 minutes in. I didn't watch the entire program because I don't particularly like to watch boxing, so I don't know if they went into why Carini quit.
  18. The medals will be awarded in a ceremony at Champions Park, next to the Eiffel Tower, on Aug. 7 at 5 p.m. The Russian team will not be allowed to attend. https://www.beloitdailynews.com/2024olympics/canada-loses-beijing-olympics-figure-skating-medals-appeal-russians-also-wont-get-medals-in-paris/article_ec066299-c675-5b9f-b3dd-30f19caee979.html
  19. Aren't they awful! I was looking for a picture to post. They look like they're wearing a blue diaper.
  20. She was an official. I don't think she would have signaled if it wasn't allowed.
  21. This story is building momentum. From what I have read, Khelif has identified as female since birth. She may have some unusual genetic and/or hormonal characteristics (the DNA testing is suspect) but I don't blame her for competing as her cis gender.
  22. We often see other athletes watching the competitions - for example, at the Women's gymnastics all-around, there were many members of the USA men's basketball team there. Does anyone know how they manage to snag those seats? Does NBC have a group of seats they can let high-profile celebs and athletes use so they can show them on TV?
  23. Secret crossover episode next season: https://ew.com/what-show-could-abbott-elementary-season-4-crossover-with-8685715
  24. Dick's always has great commercials IMO, and they often feature female athletes. Their President and CEO is a woman, Lauren Hobart. This is one of my faves from the Tokyo Olympics:
