I actually enjoy all of the comments about how pretty he is, especially since he always has a sour look on his face when someone calls him pretty. I am convinced that there is a full service hair salon at the wall and Jon travels with his own stylists. I envision him in the early morn, rubbing hydrating oils into his ends.

Josh & Anna Smuggar: A Series of Unfortunate Events

Hey now, he's not zero for everything. He definitely scored creepy molester points. He is also up there for unlikable douchebag and limited world view. Oh wait, you were looking at positive traits only. My bad. -
If I've been stranded in the Andes for months, I do not want a salad. I would bet I would have been eating plenty of leaves and roots to keep myself alive. Okay, my hatred of the breakfast defectors has grown even larger. Ooh, there's a hash brown (patty) in your tortilla hexagon. Now your world is complete. I didn't understand that the sign of a quality breakfast was putting everything together. Hang on while I pour your coffee in there too.

Tiny Dog did not want to get out of bed to go for a walk. I went full on Kendra, shouting "Rise up! RIIIIIIISE UP!" That got him moving. -
Giant smash! (Okay, so I watched The Hulk today). Jon Snow does a good job of being tossed around like a rag doll. I was actually glad to see him vomiting blood. At least we know he took serious damage. Now if only the people rowing had shown a little sense of urgency.

He certainly presented a youthful potato face. He's like a walking spud that's been dipped in oil. Although now I think of him more as pervert potato face. -

I'm guessing that Mike has had some poorly done botox. His forehead moves but not like it should. He also has acne from steroid use, over arched brows, and the end of his nose is growing in Pinocchio proportions. I'm not sure what caused the chipmunk cheeks. Then again, I have always assumed he takes his shirt off to shift focus from his face. Hank cheated or he didn't. Whether the woman with whom he cheated is cisgender or transgender is irrelevant. Shut up show. -
Having been raised Catholic, this makes me think of going to confession in preparation for first holy communion. The nuns told us we needed at least three sins to confess. I have no idea why three was the magic number. At 6 years old, it's really hard to come up with sins. A few of us got together and brainstormed. I remember we generally agreed we must have thought mean thoughts about a sibling and not done our chores when first asked. I don;t know what #3 was. I'm sure the priest was really bored but probably a bit charmed by our attempts to come up with something to say.

Chris D'Elia and Whitney Cummings - is this a sign of the apocalypse? So many mercy points given.

I did hear something like that too. Given what we've learned about Josh, this totally squicks me out. I do not need to think about Josh having any reason to people near a small child's genitals.

I am in agreement with Santorum. It's a sign of the apocalypse. I feel violated all over again. -

That is the best mis-hearing of a commercial ever. That beats my thinking that 1-800-LOAN-ME is saying 1-800-Blow-Me. -

Gaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhh!!!! Brain bleach. Must get to brain bleach. Must soak brain until all thoughts of a nearly naked Derek are gone. I'll join you on that judgement train. Just never found myself wanting to molest any child. I am safe around 5 year olds with bare shoulders and all sleeping children, regardless of how they are dressed. -
Caricature woman clearly has some emotional issues. Her confidence is amazing, especially given how annoying she is. Her original caricature is extremely ugly. Think I'll put on a waist cincher and a hot pink life preserver and go for a stroll. The caricature artist looked so uncomfortable hugging her. she desperately did not want to touch her ample foobage. The number of people who do not understand that all attention is not positive amazes me. Does Sofie actually have any skills? The world does not need more untalented celebrities who are only famous for being famous. How do these people have friends? Kiss my mutt, I agree. I would rather see real people have actual issues corrected than people desperate for attention being given yet another platform to display their craziness thereby validating there specious life choices.

Josh & Anna Smuggar: A Series of Unfortunate Events

I wouldn’t be surprised if the show came back in some form. While the vast majority of the people posting on this forum would rather see it gone, the Duggars have strong support in the fundy community. It comes down to whether, when things calm down, they can get sponsors and who the main fan base watching the show includes. There have been a series of big names in the ultra-conservative Christian community that have done the “sin”, do a series of tearful confessions to the public, at the large churches, and on religious TV, then come back to the fold/famewhoredom. Given that this includes molestation of his sisters, it could be harder for Josh to recover his position being featured on the show, but the rest of that family could potentially make a comeback. Josh already has a large number of apologists within the fundy community who consider this a youthful mistake, he has repented and changed. Basically the “he is saved in the lord” belief gives him a pass for his behavior. In fact, Josh could do quite the evangelical shame and forgiveness circuit. I have never been a regular watcher of 19K&C. I read the boards for the snark. So I can say I’ll never watch the show again, but it doesn’t matter to the network. This is a hot story right now. It could calm down and they could bring back the show in some form. I wouldn’t expect a show in which Smuggar aaaaaaaaaaand Anna provides child rearing advice. That would, rightly, bring out the pitchforks and torches. I always think it would be best for children to be kept off of reality TV. Childhood is strange enough without people telling you how to perform for the cameras. While we can speculate that having the crew there makes the children safer, we don’t know what happens during all of the times that we (and the crew) do not see. I miss focusing solely on snark. -

The suggestion from the accounts is that one girl told, not each of them. When the book incident happened, an older girl saw what pervo Josh was doing and reported it to their parents. -
ElectricBoogaloo in my head, I pronounce Jinger to rhyme with ringer too. I just can't with pronouncing it ginger.

Had a strange commercial/show juxtaposition moment today. Elizabeth Banks played a porn star who abandons her sick child and sets up her husband to take the rap for murder on Law & Order: SVU. During the show, her realtor.com commercial played. Is she buying a house with her porn earnings? She must have not been convicted of murder and was able to do the 300 guys in ten hours for $50,000 that was mentioned on SVU. -
Josh & Anna Smuggar: A Series of Unfortunate Events

The great difficulty for me was that Josh continued to be given authority over the girls after this all occurred. He is considered more responsible and reliable than they because he is male. Even though he molested his sisters he was allowed to be around them and they had to treat him like their superior. This is a continuation of the emotional abuse that is part of the molestation; it does not allow space for the girls to heal. There are a few really horrible things to understand about sexual abuse. It is common that allegations of abuse are not handled properly. When that is the case and the victims do not get proper support, persons subject to abuse are more likely to be re-abused, either by the same person or by others, Persons who were molested as children are also more likely to be raped. In no way should this be viewed as the fault of the victims. The best research I have seen on this is a thought that predators zone in on people who are more protective of themselves; i.e., less quick to smile, pull back from physical contact, etc. The other horrible thing is that girls who are abused, if the abuse is known, are often called sluts or otherwise accused of having "asked for it". While we absolutely know this is wrong, once so labelled, girls are more likely to be treated poorly, be subjected to abuse and harassment and to be considered less valuable as people. Your story is horrifying but unfortunately not unheard of. I hope you can find a better balance in your world. As people are more willing to talk about these things, more support is available even if the courts and services have not caught up. We can confidently say it was not your fault, there are some really sick people out there, and you deserved none of this. A friend grew up in a small, two-bedroom house. When she confronted her mother about her father sexually abusing her over the course of several years, her mother claimed to not have any clue this was going on. My friend screamed at her, "That must be because we were in the north wing of the house, not sharing a bedroom wall. Where did you think he was going at night?" People do not see what they don't want to see or they block it for other reasons; e.g., financial security. I am sure Boob and Mechelle turned a blind eye. They could not imagine their precious first born could be a pervert so they chose not to see the proof. ET add a missing word. -
I saw the trailer for San Andreas this weekend at a theater in San Francisco. The audience laughed. When it was over, someone yelled out, "Who's going to see it?" Crickets. Then laughter.

Celia Rubenstein, thank you for saying what I tried to say about Pa Seewald's posting. It is not the liberal media going after this "holy" family. It is not an issue of sin alone. Josh committed criminal acts against his sister and another girl. In his ministry, Pa may feel that leading convicts to Jesus will save them from committing such offenses. Josh already had Jesus in his life, so what's his excuse. A few years ago, I was driving through Nevada. I could only get a religious station on the radio. A preacher was talking about coveting. It started off well, focusing on why we covet things that others have and learning to happy with what you have, only looking to others to see if they needed help. Then it took an unexpected turn, talking about incest and bestiality. I mentioned this to my niece who was raised in a religious cult; she said I wouldn't believe how often these topics were discussed, like every dog, kitten, chicken and deer in the area had best watch out because the only thing keeping people from raping animals was the bible. Otherwise we are out of control. Incest was addressed the same way, as if only their biblical teachings and the strict oversight of the group were preventing incest. Maybe this lecture was meant for the Joshes of the world. I hope the animals are safe from his urges. After all, they don't wear clothing. They could be defrauding him right now! /sarcasm -

I'm right there with you. I have always hoped that people would see through the facade of the Duggars and understand how their lifestyle harms their children. However, I would never wish such a scandal on anyone. The girls are victims here. And they were robbed of the right of protection of their own stories. They did not deserve the abuse and they did not deserve this exposure. In regards to Josh, I keep thinking about a good friend who worked with young male sex offenders. She was a licensed therapist specializing in this area. She is one of the most kind-hearted, incredible people you would ever meet. She gave up this work because, in her experience, once the boys reached 14 or so, she began to see that they could not be redeemed. Younger children often act from confusion, mimicry of viewed acts or confusion of physical boundaries. if the behavior continues or starts in the teens, it is much harder to correct it. While this is what I have learned from one person in this field (and I have further discussed it with several social workers), it leaves me with a greater sense of dread for Josh's on-going behaviors. He is smug, sanctimonious and has been exalted within his family. He has made comments that show a true lack of remorse and no consideration for how his comments may impact his victims. I cannot say I know he would re-offend, but I certainly wouldn't be surprised if more of the same is discovered. [snip] Should TLC decide to try to keep this crapfest alive, they could always rename it "A Boob, an Over-medicated Ostrich, 18 Kids and a Pervert". That should about cover it. -
