  1. I am so sorry for your loss too. It is truly one of those things you never realize the weight of until it happens.
  2. Because they can get exposure to millions of people? Success is just a matter of thinking. A lot of these people who have made the top 10 now are muscians full time. They get to do something they love for a living and not the 9 to 5 rat race. People always compare this to Kelly or Carrie or whoever from American Idol but you just can't. The music business, hell the world is way different than it was back then. They make their money playing live now. Picking up fans across the country if you are on the show is WELL worth it. Amy Whitcomb who was a montage person and a favorite of mine from The Sing Off has been very candid about her time on the show. She said for the blind auditions they get a list of 100 songs and list them in order of what they would want to sing. The producers pick the song they will sing and that's that. You might get your top song or you might get number 99. She's a good example of an awesome singer that people might have wondered why was on the show. She killed it on The Sing Off but had bad nerves with this show. Then again Adam sent her home and kept Caroline during knockouts when, in my opinion, she wiped the floor with Caroline. That's Adam though. I think the ones we think are awful do some part of the song that shows the judges some kind of potential. I'm not a muscian so I wouldn't be able to tell something like that. The talent pool does seem to be rather shallow this year though, and it is sad when the country dude from last night is my favorite, considering I HATE country music. My faith in the talent of this year really faltered with the last person singing last night. I mean seriously that spot has always been held for the people that will blow us away. That is the best they got this year? Unlike a lot of others I really like Gwen on the show. She beats Shakira by a pinch in the pitch department, and God anything is better than Christina.
  3. Oh I've always wanted to have those weird dreams! I've been a lucid dreamer all my life so whenever things start being wonky I'm immediately dream eye-rolling at myself and realize it is a dream and not real.
  4. What a great thread! Okay, here's my story. I was a slightly chubby kid that turned fat at that magical age where I was in charge of my own food destiny (18-19). I got scared when a blood test came back semi-high for sugar at 22 so I got serious about my weight, learned a whole bunch about nutrition, and lost it all and kept it off pretty much (few 10 pounder up and downs) until I hit 41. My Mom was diagnosed with cancer and I found myself driving 1200 miles round trip every weekend for 4 months. She passed and then my Dad was diagnosed. Rinse. Repeat. I hadn't ate fast food for 20 years and then found myself eating it every weekend. I wasn't exactly the most emotionally stable person in the world either - losing both my parents who outwardly were the epitome of health in a year and a half totally did a number on my sanity for awhile there. In December my Dad will have been gone a year and last month I decided enough was enough and I needed to get off this crazy train and take care of myself. I know what to do and how to do it. I'm slowly getting back to where my eating habits used to be and will hopefully be rid of this extra weight by the spring. I seem to be lucky and the 40 year old curse doesn't apply to me. If I eat right and exercise I lose weight.
  5. That was the one thing I really liked about Jessie's former show on Lifetime. He did the training and nutrition, and they had a psychologist for the emotional part. Unfortunately America didn't like seeing real world weight loss and the show was cancelled. I do like come back canyon, but would like it a lot more if Bob "I'M saving your life" Harper wasn't running it. I'd really love it if all the kicked off contestants got to stay for the rest of the show and the one with the biggest percentage got back into the finale.
  6. We are all freaks in this forum, I swear. I didn't have a TV until September 12th. I got one for obvious reasons on that day in 2001. I don't think I've known anyone else that didn't have TV's through the 90's and damn how many on here are there?? I have caught up on some of my pop culture through Netflix though. I think I'm going to the walker stalker in Chicago in February. I can't get days off to go to Atlanta, and I can like walk to it in Chicago.
  7. I'm not one to blame actors, but I seriously think it is the actor. I despised her from the minute I laid eyes on her on X-Files too. That chick just gives off a nasty vibe.
  8. Dale is much worse on rewatch! I was kind of meh about him - how nosey he was bugged - but I could deal. Rewatching the second season, gah! Hated him.
  9. 1. Can I sacrifice both of them?? 2. Lizzie. It would cut out on all the group bullshit because BSC Lizzie would just kill him while she was alone with the prisoner. 3. I think I'd chance it with Mary. Lori was a freakin' housewife who couldn't make pancakes? Jesus she was inept at every thang she did! 4. Tomas. Tomas is a bad dude but Joe was evil and had no boundries, especially with children. 5. I think I'd hang around. I don't want to lose half of my body and as a female I have been trying since puberty not to be bloated.
  10. Oh Barneysays I remember you from TWoP. You have to watch or I'll miss your posts! It will be so worth watching since it seems Pharrell has absolutely NO tolerance for King Douche!
  11. Ha! There is actually one kid on the show that had NO sob story. I think he went to Adam's team because Adam said he felt like he was his little brother. He loves his family, parents are divorced but are great friends and even moved together when one of them got a new job, and his older brothers are his inspiration. Whodathunkit? Although he might have a sob story now that he is on Team Adam... :)
  12. Pharrell has 5 4 chairs to Adam's 3. Even though none of them have been overly impressive (to me anyway) it is so refreshing that Adam probably won't end up with a completely stacked team and maybe more of the better people will get through. I liked Gwen's honesty about how they have turned around now, it is no longer just the voice that matters. I'm really liking Gwen in general, except for how she seems to m need validation from the other coaches before she his her button. Blake seems refreshed this season, and Adam seems like he is not happy about not being prom queen anymore. The look on his face when Pharrell told that contestant something like "I won't be furthering my ambitions but I'll be furthering yours" was priceless. Still dumbfounded why anyone that isn't County wouldn't immediately go with Pharrell if he turns. Do these people know nothing about the music biz or what? It would be way more beneficial to form a relationship with Pharrell than winning the show.
  13. I wish they would have kept to the comic book version of Re: Baby food - Remember the cottage had a baby grave and I think in one of the deleted scenes it shows a bunch of baby food in the cottage kitchen.
  14. Hopefully it means she's going to be walker chow...oppps did I say that out loud?
  15. Thanks for the link! Yes, consistent isn't their forte for sure when it comes to kids. I just think a storyline with a kid that isn't quite a child but not an adult being on their own could be fascinating. How terrifying for that kid....I think Patrick was a nice kid, but was overly grateful because of his situation.
  16. My best friend since 1st grade had the chubby issues going on since a young age. Her parents constantly dug at her about it, and she had major self esteem/depression issues because of it. When Blake said she was sneak/binge eating I figured her parents acted pretty much the same - they probably monitored every little bite she took. She also said something about when she lost weight it was the only time her 'rents said she had done good. I can imagine how not getting to that weight could make her feel horrible. I bet her parents reminded her of that fact every day. I can't imagine being a kid and facing that kind of criticism from my parents. I don't think she was telling the whole story either, just enough to get them to leave her alone.
  17. You know after rewatch I'm really finding Patrick's character interesting and wish we knew more. I don't know how old he was supposed to be - presumably young enough to be Carl's friend - but he did seem to be all alone. They never showed his parents or guardians or anything like that. I'm wondering if the whole "story time" was less about him being immature and more about him wanting to learn to protect himself. It seems like they were doing story time for awhile, and I wonder if him telling Carl that it was kid's stuff that he wouldn't like it was his way of making sure story time continued.
  18. Talk about warping...The BF and I went to this restaurant in the middle of BFE because they were supposed to have these awesome sandwiches (they did). They had a store in the restaurant, think Cracker Barrel with a soul, that had all kinds of canned and preserved food. He was like "This is the first place we are going to loot if the ZA happens".
  19. No clue I quit a couple of months before they closed them down. It was weird!
  20. TWoP refugee here. I didn't post in TBL forum much, as I think the last season I watched the show was when Abby (the lady whose whole family died) was on. I used to be a Mod for NBC boards, and let me tell you that experience burned me out as much as the show did. Just TBL boards were practically a full time job to moderate, not counting the other ones. Their families would get on and fight with the regular posters, people would PM me begging me to help them get on the show because they could only lose like 4 pounds a week on their own (so sad), and hungry fat people are just a pain to deal with. I can say that because at times I am a hungry fat person, or a hungry chunky person, and sometimes a hungry regular sized person. My screen name should be Yo-Yo. Anyway, I think enough time has passed and this board has the same vibe as TWoP so here I am! Jessie being added to the stable of trainers is what brought me back. I am his accidental Facebook friend. Before his Diet Tribe days I somehow became friends with him, and as he figured out he could have a fan page and a personal page he weeded most people out, but somehow I survived. :) He seems like an all around good guy who really loves his family and genuinely cares for the people he trains. I was getting tired of King Bob and Queen Jillian so having mostly new trainers (never saw it with the other dude) might refresh it for me. I was still sickened when that dude lost 38 pounds, but what can you do? America likes shock and awe.
  21. I was worried when I saw Jessie was going to be on TBL. His idea of weight loss doesn't jive with TBL's mantra of extreme weight loss. He worked with the super obese before they made the decision to have surgery early on in his career, and on Diet Tribe he wasn't a "lose 10 pounds a week!" kind of guy. He did a show in the UK too that takes a year to shoot, so that people do things the healthy way. So a team full of women and what seems to be his personal philosophy doesn't bode well for his team, but then again maybe the people on his team are the lucky ones. 38 pounds in one week? Shenanigans.
  22. Some of the best scenes of this show are the ones with no words. When Rick goes back into the Tombs when Lori died....I don't think he said a word, even when he slammed Glen against the wall, and man was it powerful.
  23. Don't watch Z Nation Walnutqueen! It sucks IQ points right out of your brain!
  24. It was worse than that. I mean at first I thought it was going to be one of those stupid tongue in cheek type deals where it's so stupid it's hilarious but no, it was just BAD. Like the only way I would watch the last 30 minutes of it would be if I knew every one of the actors died and the world ended. It was THAT bad.
  25. I couldn't get through the whole show. It gives new meaning to the word horrendous. I mean bad acting, writing, cinematography, make up.... my god that is 30 minutes I'll never get back and knowing my luck if I ever get dementia I'll still remember it.
